Mission Federal Credit Union Reviews

Jordan Schmidt1After repeatedly giving me bad information. My account, which i only still had open to repay a covid assistance loan, was charged off over $15 from 2 charges i was unaware of the time they were charged. I was told that it could all be fixed if I paid everything off. Even maybe get the fees back(which actually made the charge off $43) So I paid off the $15, the fees and the remainder of my loan. Since then. They have refused to rescind the charge off even though it was paid about a week after it happened and i believe 48 days from the initial charge i tried to dispute. They refuse to admit their own culpability and don't care that they're reporting bad information. Since that $15($43) was charged off my credit score dropped 79 points on experian. That was the only change in my accounts since the month before. Now it says not on did I default on the bank account, but that the loan was alsodelinquent or charged off, and the bank account was negativede $300. Dending on which credit agency you look at. When I talked tosomeone from the bank about the charge off, weeks after I was promised I would receive the call, I was told nothing could be done and there was no one in the "charge off department" for me to speak too. Furthermore, they said the misleading voicemails and information I was given I got were just a courtesy. That accounts only other other than the loan payment was a year prior. This bank has been nothing but a disaster for me and helped keep me down when I'm already at my lowest. So thanks for your understanding mission federal! Hopefully my next post isn't on a cardboard box that says homeless vet. anything would help. Because you sure didn't.

M V3I received a special offer and opened an account in Fall 2019. It has not been a smooth experience since. The Mission Federal website is buggy. For example, the type of checking account I opened is fee free if I enroll in e-statements. When signing into the website, I'm greeted with a popup which allows me to opt-in. I selected the option the first and next dozen times I logged into my account. Yet I still received paper statements via USPS, as well as fees on my account. Once I caught these fees and visited the branch, the teller was nice and understanding and reversed the fees. Had that been the end of it, this review would be 1 star higher than it currently sits. However, after 1/31, I was again charged the same fee. On my most recent visit (the day I'm writing this), Cynthia helped me with my transaction. Cynthia is also the teller who helped me open my account and her service is the number one reason I'm strongly considering taking my money elsewhere. When she opened my account, she was more difficult than she was helpful, made me feel that she saw me as stupid and was confrontational more than she was welcoming. I nearly walked out rather than finishing the steps to open the account just due to her attitude. She also explained that day that if I opted for e-statements, I wouldn't be charged and fees, failing to disclose that all overdrafts covered by my savings incurred a hefty fee. Thankfully, another teller reversed those fees when I visited to dispute them. Visiting the branch today, I was greeted by Cynthia. I explained to her the situation and rather than apologize for the mistake (I realize it's not her doing at all), she talked over me and insinuated the problem was my fault. She showed me on her terminal that I still was not enrolled in e-statements, but told me I needed to fix it on my end. She instructed me to log in on my mobile phone then asked me to just hand her my phone rather than walking me through the process. I declined to give her my device and ok my own in a matter of seconds, found the tabs to click through to finally and hopefully permanently enroll in e-statements. To make matters even more frustrating, when I checked my transaction receipt, I noticed that she made a withdrawal from the wrong account, generating another transfer fee for the overdraft. I've used a major bank for the majority of my banking for nearly a decade after moving away from the region where my previous credit union was located. I believe in credit unions and would conduct all my business with one were it feasible. Besides the bonus offer, I chose Mission Federal due to a bad experience I had previously in trying to open an account with SDCCU. Unfortunately, incompetence and bad customer service might force me to reconsider.

Frank Pardo1I have only interacted with the Mission Federal Branch on Washington Street in Mission Hills, but have at least 3 recorded calls with alleged Executive Office representatives at Mission Federal Credit Union. I was given a verbal credit score when inquiring about a potential mortgage and received quotes. I was given the quotes orally, but not the credit report. I asked for a copy of my authorization for permission to pull the credit; this was also denied. I have a small medical corporation and am asking corporate counsel to look into this, since I'm pretty sure the behavior is not only unethical, but illegal. While the legality is one issue, what I was amazed at was the rudeness and professionalism upon asking, in respectful tone, that a supervisor call me back from the Executive offices. Indeed, there was not a call back. Because I believe strongly that consumer feedback can make a difference, I plan on making an appointment at the actual executive offices in San Diego to share the documentation with management, but have little hope that this will do anything. i do not want to use the actual named of the representatives, since I believe they would be disciplined for this, and ultimately the responsibility for the dysfunctional corporate culture should rest with Management. Several weeks ago, I walked into the Mission Hills Branch and at least two of the employees were too busy gossiping to help the third one out at the window. The clearly appeared waiting to come off ship with a minimal amount of effort; an air of indifference and a stale corporate air predominated the entire place. I was shocked to find out that they won some accolade for business performance given multiple encounters not only at this branch but on the phone with the Executive offices. I am trying to say something positive about any experience with the company, and generally try to give people a break with respect to this being a sampling error or simply to make my review more credible; I'm afraid I cannot. "Buyer beware."
Response from the ownerThank you for your feedback, Frank. I have shared your review with our management team.

Matthew Lovegood5I just opened new bank accounts at Mission Federal Credit Union, and I was absolutely amazed at how well I was treated and at the efficiency of their setup. I've been with one of the big national banks since I first moved out on my own 13 years ago and boy, did they have me trained well --- trained to believe that I was lucky to have bank accounts at all and not to question their systems, fees, or call wait times. I can't believe it took me so long to check out a local credit union, but you know how it is: it'll be hard to change my accounts, everything's tied to it and automated, they have branches everywhere, blah blah blah. To be treated like a human being by your financial institution - I haven't had that expectation in years. What a breath of fresh air when I walked in today and met Sisenando. I know everyone gets treated well when you're a potential customer, but this was different. For the first time maybe ever, the thought of "banking" is not fraught with anxiety over what's going to happen when I try to jump on the assembly line and get a little attention. Very, very happy with my experience today - should have moved my accounts years ago.

Zac Hughes5Love the local and warm feel that MFCU provides. If they had a broader national coverage I would do all my banking with them. I got a killer rate on an auto loan and the tellers are always so kind. Not like the big banks that are pushy and just trying to upsell you on accounts or products.

Heidi Bradley1Don't bother with these folks if you ever plan to die. Trying to settle the estate of one of their costumers and getting blocked left and right. I have certificates of trust granting me access regardless of if I had a death certificate. Would not talk to me. Get the death certificate but that is not enough, now I have to send them a notarized affidavit (which I haven't received yet) and then I *might* get someone to talk to me. In the mean time, bills aren't getting paid, lawyers are waiting for statements and I can't get anything done. Thanks for nothing.
Response from the ownerThank you for your feedback, Heidi. We'd like to know more about the issues you're experiencing. Please email your contact information to [email protected] and we will get in touch with you.

Indrani Ganguly-Fitzgerald1The worst! Completely unhelpful and/or incompetent staff. And they are rude! I have tried twice at this branch and decided it was not worth my effort or time. The Mission Valley branch is fantastic. If not for the MV branch I would have closed my account and gone back to my old bank.
Response from the ownerWe apologize for the poor experience that you had at our branch. Thank you for your feedback. Your review has been shared with our management team.
