The real estate market in the DMV area has caused strife for so many since the onset of the pandemic. We worked with Nathan Burch at Vellum and recently closed on our new home after a nearly two year process. His patience, professionalism, knowledge and kindness stands hand and shoulders above others in this business. I cannot thank him enough for everything he did for us.

      Response from the owner

Hi Kelley - Thanks so much for taking the time to leave Nathan Burch a review. We appreciate it, and we're happy you had such a great experience. Congratulations on your new home and we wish you all the best!

Diana and Eric were both very responsive and helpful. Working with them was straightforward and I've had no issues with the process.

Editing this review because of the response to the owner. I placed several phone calls WITHIN working hours in which he did not answer the phone. I also sent a TEXT message to the loan officer about the offer we submitted and he NEVER responded not even within working business hours and I NEVER heard from him again. I submitted my offer on a home which I DID buy with the letter from Vellium and asked about the contingencies in a market that was moving EXTREMELY fast and never heard anything back. Do not sit here and lie on this review. I was TIRED of being blown off and found a better rate elsewhere. I DID qualify for an amazing conventional loan with a BETTER rate and purchased my home. Again, you can see from the owner's response its worth looking elsewhere. Decided to go with a different mortgage provider instead. I didn't like my loan officer, he never answered the phone when I tried to contact him or his assistant and I literally never heard from him again after working with him for a month and providing all my information, doing everything he said to do to qualify for the loan. I went with a different company and got a better rate because of it. If you are thinking of going here, keep looking.

      Response from the owner

Hi Brookklin - We appreciate you sharing your thoughts here. However, we do want to use this opportunity to clarify a few things. In discussing your concerns with our Loan Officer he showed us 26 email communications with you and 13 documented phone calls; most of which were outside of business hours. He tried to get you qualified for two different loan options, ran your loan through automated underwriting systems 23 times, and checked multiple properties to see if they were FHA Approved. Unfortunately, things were just not working out, despite these efforts. We understand that it can be frustrating when things don't work out the way you expect. At one point we know you decided to work with a different Realtor, and our Loan Officer never heard from you again. He thought you were no longer interested in purchasing. We apologize that we were not able to help you, and wish you the best.

Although we ended up using a different provider for our home mortgage, I reached out to Greg Kingsbury at Vellum Mortgage twice for quotes. In both cases he was extraordinarily professional and took the time to explain the quote thoroughly, even though it was fairly clear we were going to end up using the other provider. His rates were extremely competitive and he beat our own provider in both cases. His responsiveness ended up saving us quite a bit of money on our mortgage. If we need mortgage services in the future, whether for a new home loan or a refinance, Greg will definitely be my first call.

We have worked with Eric Hopkins and Diana Blanks now twice, first with our initial home purchase and again for refinancing. Both, along with the team, are top knotch. We were provided an excellent rate with low fees, avoided PMI, were guided on the best terms and when to rate lock, and then the whole process of the loan. Eric answered my many questions with clarity and context, and was always responsive, especially during a very crazy time period of low rates (winter/spring 2020). Their company is transparent, highly skilled, and good people. I highly recommend and would work again with Vellum without a doubt.

Jordan Kingsbury and team made purchasing our home a breeze, everything went smoothy and quickly with no issues.

      Response from the owner

Hi Jackie! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience working with Jordan. We appreciate it. Congratulations too, on your home purchase. We wish you the best!

*Edited after being called by the company requesting I remove names/edit this review* I absolutely would never recommend this company to anyone purchasing or refinancing a home. Over the last 18 months, I have completed an initial loan and 2 refinances with this company. Beginning with the first refinance, extra fees continually showed up on statements issued by the company that I had to dispute time and time again despite being reassured every time that it was simply a “glitch.” After they fixed this on my closing documents that I signed, to my surprise the “glitch” added it back in when my first payment came due. To anyone working with this company, do your due diligence and force them to fix any discrepancies. I cannot imagine how much money they have gotten out of unsuspecting people. As another example of this, the man running the company fundamentally does not understand how loan amortization works when someone pays additional principal (maybe he does now after I had to explain it to him on the phone). I was informed after paying extra that my payment would not be applied properly because they are not the long-term servicer of my loan but that they would hold it in escrow and transfer it as a separate payment a few months later when they could sell my loan. As a result of their refusal to properly service my loan, every subsequent payment I make will be more than it should be, costing me in the long-run. The employees of this company need trained on 1) how loan amortization works and 2) how to properly service loans before they should be allowed to talk to customers.

Despite the current mortgage craziness with the historically low rates, the team of Jay Curley, Zak Rhodes, & Fatima Rahimi were A #1! Jay patiently reviewed different options with me; Fatima helped get me through the application process; and Zak provided the numbers, documents, and answered all questions. 3rd time refinancing with Jay -- why would I go anywhere else with such professional and expert support?

Eric Hopkins with Vellum is terrific to have by your side throughout the buying process. I was a first time homebuyer and before we even agreed to use Eric he made sure we understood all the details, costs, and expectations. He sees his clients all the way through to the end. I would wholeheartedly recommend him and will be using Vellum in the future. Thanks again Eric. Buckham Family

Kevin Finnegan and Vellum Mortgage absolutely crushed it for my family! How do you get approval overnight, in the middle of a global pandemic, at rates that the big boys couldn’t beat? Go with Kevin. Seriously, this is a real review from someone that doesn’t know Kevin personally – he just did things I didn’t think were possible in the middle of COVID-19, or at any other time, for that matter. We put in four different offers with Kevin before ultimately purchasing our home. Every time, nights, weekends, holidays, pandemics (!) the documents were there, the preapprovals didn’t slow us down. And ultimately we got the deal done. Mortgage brokers are sometimes thought of as fast-talking salespeople. Kevin is a straight-shooter and he gets it done. He has my highest recommendation.
