I have wonderful experience with Ted Lyons. He is 24X7 available to answer your questions. His team is really good and fast with accuracy. I heard his name before for great support and decided to go with him only. Upon comparing with competitors from where my friends took mortgages Ted offered a really good mortgage deal which makes me proud on my decision. I would definitely recommend him if you are considering for mortgage. He did super fast closing even in holiday season which is really hard to believe.

Worst experience of my life! Loan officer was not professional at all. Over looked things in my paper work which lead to me loosing out on a dream home! I don’t recommend applying for mortgage with this company at all!

I highly recommend using Michigan First Mortgage for your loan - new home, refi, home equity loan, etc. I found the staff to be professional, thorough in answering my questions for my refi and they returned my calls promptly even after regular business hours. My loan officer Michael Nykiel gave me excellent service.

Ted Lyons, Branch Manager in Brighton, was able to refinance our mortgage and we closed without a hitch. He is thorough and gets things done on time. I highly recommend Ted to anyone who is looking for a mortgage whether a first time buyer or looking to refinance. But, if you have had problems getting a mortgage, you owe it to yourself to give Ted a call. He has helped many in difficult situations get the financing they need to buy the house they want.

      Response from the owner

We couldn't agree more! Thank you for this kind review Gary.

***PLEASE READ TO THE END*** Steer clear of Michigan First Mortgage!!! My negative experience with Michigan First started when we accepted an offer on our home on June 29th, 2020. Michigan First was our buyer’s lender and they were requesting 45 days to close, making our closing date August 14th. This was not an issue for us as we had loads to pack and our new home was not completed anyway. August 11th, we are 85% packed, the moving truck is booked, multiple friends and family have taken time off work to help load and watch our two daughters in preparation for a dual closing on the 14th. We get a call from our realtor stating that Jeff Hambright from Michigan First will not have our buyer’s clear-to-close done by the 14th, as it still needs to be sent to MSHDA for review. The turnaround time stated by Jeff was 3 days, putting the new target as no later than the 19th of the following week. As you can imagine, this blow hits us hard as we have spent 40+ days prepping, only to have the rug pulled out from under us. Thankfully, the builder of our new home was gracious enough to let us move our boxed-up life into the home with a contingency that if we do not close by the 19th, we were to pay $50/day until we do. No big deal, right? I have faith we’ll close. Wrong… August 18th and still no word on a closing date. I send an email with everyone involved copied, to which I receive a reply from Jeff that MSHDA is still working on the file. I express my dissatisfaction but can do nothing. On August 20th, after 11 email were sent from various parties in the chain asking for an update, Jeff finally replies that he is still Working with MSHDA on getting the file through. My lender asks Jeff when the file was sent to MSHDA, to which he replies “yesterday”. Wait…the 19th? Over a week after he said it was going to MSHDA and we would close no later than the 19th? This is turning into a nightmare. Begin the $50/day… August 27th, Jeff finally responds to yet another request for an update and states that MSHDA turnaround times are looking for it to be out of underwriting by Tuesday of the following week, which would be September 1st. Jeff states that he is going to request we close immediately out of underwriting. September 1st, Jeff responds to emails from the previous day stating that the file is due out of MSHDA the next day, and that we will close Friday the 4th. Title companies start prepping their documents for a Friday closing and book closers to be on location. September 2nd, after not hearing anything all day and multiple emails asking for an update, Jeff responds at 4:56 stating that MSHDA is asking for a letter of explanation from my buyer. September 3rd, after everyone has expressed that they don’t think the Friday closing will happen, and title companies have assumed they can remove the appointments, Jeff speaks up and says he will have the clear-to-close by EOB, but his department won’t have the paperwork ready till the following week. Monday being a holiday, Tuesday is the earliest we could close. September 8th, (yes, we missed our Tuesday closing, are you surprised?) we finally get the clear-to-close from Jeff and we schedule for Thursday the 10th. September 10th, we close. 27 days past our original target, set 45 days after acceptance of offer. Meanwhile paying utilities at two houses, insurance at two houses, and rent at our new home which the builder was nice enough to round to $1000 total. As you can imagine, I am beyond disappointed with not only the constant over promising and under delivering of Jeff and his team, but lying about when the file was sent, avoiding requests for updates, and ONLY owning up to the mistakes made after my realtor contacted Michigan First HR to get them involved. Spread the word that this company is not to be trusted when purchasing a home.

Ted Lyons and his team at Michigan First Mortgage have handled a few mortgages for me. Ted is right on top of things to make sure there aren't any hiccups, and to handle anything that does come up. He has really taken good care of me and I will surely use him again in the future.

      Response from the owner

So far my experience has been awesome. Customer service is the most friendly I have experienced within the banking industry. Also, the loan process for my mortgage was painless, they literally took care of everything!

If I could give negative stars I would. Our loan officer Zarine Torrey, gave us inaccurate information, wasted our time and money. We provided all documents in a timely manner, yet she would overlook things, and basically had us running around in circles. Took us weeks passed closing, claimed she told us things, when she didn’t. This LO and this company is a joke! Purposely set us up for failure. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Save yourself the headache and go SOMEWHERE ELSE! Do not waste your time, money and energy with these clowns!

      Response from the owner

We're sorry to hear this! Someone will be contacting you directly about this.
