Live Oak Bank Reviews

MJ1Often if things sound to good to be true, they are. Live Oak appears to be a good bank with great savings rates. My experience is that may be true if you do not need to put money in or take money out of the account. May work for small amounts but it is very difficult to transfer or retrieve larger sums of money. They have long hold times that were not initially disclosed. Also, I received different answers to the same question multiple times when I called customer service. They generally answer calls quickly and you actually talk to a live person which is great but getting incorrect information multiple times is very frustrating. Save time and frustration and go with a different bank.

HV.1The worst bank I've ever dealt with. If I could give zero stars I would. Out of the blue, I was no longer able to electronically deposit funds into my TDameritrade account due to some restriction they put on my account after I made deposits for over a year, they had no clue what happened. To make matters worse, when I recently closed the account because I was no longer able to transfer funds from it, they never deposited my remaining balance of $1800!! The worst banking experience ever. I still don't know where my money is and they're telling me to contact my other bank as if it's their fault. Do not use them for online banking.

Shannon Leath5I love Live Oak Bank! About a year ago, I transferred my savings account from Capital One to Live Oak Bank. The rates at Capital One dropped and I was tried of going through various prompts to finally end up waiting on hold until I reached a person who could help me. When I opened a savings account online with Live Oak Bank, it was so simple. If I had a question or forgot my password, all I had to do was call their customer service number and a friendly person answered almost immediately and was able to quickly help me resolve my issue. Switching from Capital One to Live Oak Bank was the best decision and I just wish I would have done it sooner!

C L5I just had the easiest experience EVER opening a bank account! with Live Oak Bank I applied online to open a CD account and a savings account because their rates are extremely competitive. The website was easy to navigate and the process was very straightforward. Although I wasn't anticipating that I'd need to upload several documents as part of their process to verify my identity, I had no trouble scanning the documents and uploading them. I was worried that the site would "time out" as I've had that happen with other online banks, but I had plenty of time to locate the necessary documents, scan and upload them. I was also concerned when I discovered I couldn't locate my Social Security card (I put it somewhere for safekeeping, but drew a blank when I tried to remember where). I called Live Oak and the phone was answered immediately. The person who took my call was extremely nice and very helpfully described what I could submit in lieu of the Social Security card. As I was finishing up the application process, I called Live Oak again, just to double-check whether they offer an online checking account (unfortunately, they don't). Again, my call was answered immediately, and by someone who provided a quick, clear and polite response. My experience during the two phone calls matched the way Live Oak Bank presents itself on its website. Unlike some of the bigger banks, your account isn't created immediately -- it takes 2 business days before you know whether your account has been approved. You can't arrange to link an external account with your Live Oak account until the approval comes through, and there's no guarantee that the CD rate on the day you apply will still be available by the time you can actually fund the account. (Some of the bigger banks will guarantee the rate as long as you fund your CD within 10 days of opening an account.) That might be an essential point for some people. Personally, I'm OK taking the chance that by the time I fund my CD the rate might have dropped a bit, when by going with Live Oak I can anticipate I'll be treated as if I was a walk-in customer.

Vinod Puri1It took more than two weeks to link one of my external accounts with my Live Oak account and that too with great difficulty after making several phone calls to the bank representative over several days. Three other issues concerning external bank linking are still being resolved by the banks IT department for the last two weeks with no resolution in sight. Will be closing the account very soon due to total frustration. Live Oak should continue to be in the loan business only rather than entering into personal banking like offering a savings or money market account. The bank does not know how to resolve customer's issues and it appears that their IT department can not resolve any issues (a totally worthless department).
Response from the ownerMr. Puri, We appreciate you taking the time to discuss your concerns with a Customer Success Manager and apologize for the technical difficulty you experienced. L C1I tried to open an online savings account through Live Oak's site. Once it got to my external bank account verification, it went through logging me into my external bank as well as asking all security questions to login to it, found my account and could even see the balance of my account, then told me it couldn't verify my account. I tried a few times over a couple of days and received the "unable to verify" message each time. I called Live Oak in order to speak with someone and fix my account verification issue, but there was a long hold so I left my callback number like the automated message asked me to if I didn't want to wait in queue. I waited over a week to post this review as I wanted to ensure the bank didn't call me. I NEVER received a call back so I cancelled my account registration. I was able to open an online savings account with another bank without any issues in less than 5 minutes. Don't waste your time with Live Oak Bank

larry king1This bank is more hassles than it is worth. Stay away from this particular online bank. It locks and closes one's account without notice and justifiable cause. The staff is incompetent. The staff members don't return telephone calls. The bank's staff takes forever to process transfers once account is closed and makes it difficult to receive one's own money, even to an account that is linked to it for transfers. The people who run this particular online institution should be fired and the bank itself should be shut down. This is not a financial institution that values its customers and treat everyone equally. Don't believe the hype. I look forward to banking with an online institution that is more reputable, credible, and an equal opportunity financial institution in the near future.
Response from the ownerThank you for the feedback, Larry. We apologize that you experienced these difficulties and would like the opportunity to assist with your concern so that we can learn more about where we can improve. We invite you to get in touch with us at [email protected].

Burt Bassett5Opened a savings account 6 months ago and am more than pleased. The whole experience has been flawless. I have not needed to speak with anyone at Live Oak Bank while depositing, transferring, or withdrawing funds! Also they notify me monthly on the first when interest is added to the account.
