  I was a bit apprehensive about using Great Midwestern Bank for my construction loan because all I knew about them was they were who our builder recommended and recommendations from other businesses can be hit or miss. However, I am happy to say the process went really smooth and we were kept in the loop the entire process. We worked with Ginny M and it was good to have someone with experience in securing new construction loans to talk us through the process.

  I was moving to Madison from Chicago and contacted Great Midwest Bank about obtaining a mortgage loan. The entire experience was smooth and everyone I interacted with was well informed, friendly, and very responsive. The rate I received was comparable to other big box chains. I would highly recommend them. I plan on creating a local bank account to as the interactions I had with bank staff were equally great.

  We required a short term loan or a bridge loan to purchase a new home. Great Midwest Bank was a great banking choice for us.   Taking out a Line of Credit with Great Midwest was so simple. I was able to get the Line of Credit quickly and I was always able to get a quick answer when calling with questions on my loan. It was a pleasure to work with them. It made my life stress free.

  We recently financed with Great Midwest Bank (again). This was at least our fourth(?) mortgage with them, having refinanced before when interest rates dropped or when we wanted to change our loan term. (To be fair, in between, we also got mortgages through two other companies, also with good service.) Over the years, we've worked with both Jon Reetz (now the voice on their radio commercials) and Melissa Zavadil. We'd happily work with them again. The good stuff: - GMWB has good rates and low refinance costs. Our refinance costs were significantly lower than the competitors I checked. - Once locked-in, the rates stayed locked in until closing. - The process was relatively painless. - Everything except the final 15-minute signoff was online. - GMWB services mortgages locally, so we have someone to talk with if there are issues. - No escrow. The not so good stuff: - Loan origination took a long time start to close. We applied on February 15 and closed on May 10. Three months seems like a long time. Not sure if it's because so many refinancers are so busy. - The long loan processing time was so long that we had to send in new bank account statements twice before the loan was issued. - Communication could have been better. We would have liked at least a bi-weekly update on the progress of our loan. To be fair, all our inquiries got quick responses. But we shouldn't have to ask every couple weeks. While this is familiar turf for GMWB, it isn't for us. - Call us old-fashioned, but we would have liked to have received paper copies of all loan documents at the end rather than us having to download them. They could have been provided at closing. - We had to pay for an appraisal ($425) despite having a large equity in our home, but the other refinance costs were low. Conclusion: If we ever refinance again, there's a good chance it would be with GMWB.
