TCF Bank Reviews

Cole Bjornson2A very VERY mediocre banking experience. No real incentives to stay, they don't give out competitive rates on loans, and if you have had a bankruptcy they simply wont do any type of loans with you period even if your current credit score is 720+. I have had one instance where an overdraft fee was charged when I specifically told them to decline transactions that would put the account in the negative instead of going negative and charging the overdraft fee. So that was fun. The day to day interactions with the tellers are fine, nothing extraordinary, nothing super bad so far really. The only reason I choose to bank at this spot is due to its location and my overall disdain for Wells Fargo. So in conclusion, if you don't mind Wells Fargo... its just across the parking lot. Short of the convenience due to proximity to where I live there literally no other reason to open an account here.

Joshua Warmke1After receiving a flyer in the mail from them addressed to current resident at my address, I went there to open an account and get the offer from the flyer. After waiting half an hour as the sole person at the counter dealt with a very unhappy customer, it was finally my turn. I then was told I needed to prove my address to get the offer in the flyer, as I could have stolen it from someone and they need to make sure the offer was meant for me. Again, it's address to "current resident" at my address. I'll be taking my money and business to Wells Fargo instead. After reading more reviews online, it sounds like I got lucky to not have gotten an account with TCF. They seem to love these sort of sleezy business practices to try to make things difficult for their customers and they appear to be widely known as a terrible bank.
Response from the ownerThank you for your feedback, Joshua. Weunderstand how this is frustrating, and would like to continue the conversation and assist any way possible. Please give us a call at 800-823-2265, or contact us on our Facebook or Twitter page. Thanks!

Randale Morrison1I Have never felt so discriminated against in the bank. The bank manager and her team treated me like I was a criminal. After everything was said and done she still refused to give me the statement I needed. I then went to the lake St location next Lyndale and was treated so much better, and I finally got everything I needed from them. How on earth do you employ people with no good customer service skills. I was so disappointed in that Shakopee location in side of cub food store.

Mariah Rosengren1If you constantly like to have to go in to figure out why they're charging you an overdraft fee even though you've gone in 4+ times to set it up to make sure that doesn't happen, then this is the bank for you. If you want money taken out from your account for about $60 that appears to be a payment to U.S. Bank (even though you've never had an account) and then have TCF tell you to call them only for them to ask for an account number for an account you don't have and to call back your bank who never gives you an answer, (because they're more than likely trying to cover their a$$es for taking your money for the U.S. Bank stadium and hoped you wouldn't notice) then this is the bank for you. If you enjoy going in more than twice, spending over a half hour each time for them to figure out why their app isn't working on your phone, only for it to STILL not work with them telling you to try these things to get it to work after you've JUST explained to them that you did all that last time and it didn't work, then by all means, this is the bank for you. If you want a rude teller when you wise up and decide to go to another bank and cancel your account, guess what? This is the place for you. However, if these things don't appeal to you, then go to Wings Financial Credit Union. Where almost literally you never even need to go in to manage anything on your account. Save yourself and any loved ones banking at TCF and RUN out of there.

Nick Eichten5I visited because I had an issue with signing up online. They were able to quickly and easily fix and recover all of my information, and got everything working again. Staff member who helped me was fantastic, nice, and knew what she was doing. Definitely recommend coming here when they are open!

William Koch1First off I dont normally do reviews but after todays experience I felt compelled. TCF in a whole is a so-so bank. Havent had any troubles with them but they are very inconvenient. Only a handful of atms within a 45 mile radius of me and the closest branch is inside of a Cub foods. Now this teller in this specific branch is a total B. There was nobody there besides the two tellers working, who looked to be going over work related material on a computer together. I grabbed my deposit slip and filled it out. I then approached the line and the teller said "I can help you on the right" while nodding her head to her right. I then responded with "your right/my left?". To which she responded "that's very observant of you" in a very condescending tone. As you can imagine I was very taken back by her tone and attitude. She was clearly irritated that I was there. It took every fiber in my body to hold back what I really wanted to say to her. I said "yeah, I'm VERY observant. The MOST observant!" in a very sarcastic and irritated tone. She flashed me a nasty look and didnt respond. It was a very tense couple of minutes as she completed my transaction. Needless to say I left there very angry. It's amazing how just a few words in the correct tone can be so extremely offensive. I'm not gonna say "I'm never going there again!" or "I'm gonna talk to the manager and raise hell!" because frankly it's a major pain to switch banks and like stated before there aren't very many atms or branches to choose from. And what good is it to speak with the manager really. What I will do is look for other financial institutions to possibly switch to in the next few months and warn others of this womans disgusting attitude towards her customers. As long as tellers like her are the face of this bank, I'm sure they'll be losing more and more customers. So that's it. If you can avoid this particular branch inside of Cub foods in shakopee then do yourself a favor and do so. If not, I hope you dont have to deal with this woman.
Response from the ownerThank you for taking the time and leaving your review! We would like to hear more about your experience and see how we may help in any way possible. Please call us at 800-823-2265. We hope to hear from you soon!

Alexus Garcia1In early May my mother (who I have a joint account with because I had not had an ID when it was made) tried to deposit money into the account since I was living away and was VERY short on money and when we had checked to see how much I had in the account it was brought to our attention that the money NEVER went into the account. I had to ask my neighbor for food because I had no money for food thanks to this bank. We speculate that the lady had pocketed the money or it had been put into another account. I have had problems with TCF before but this was the last straw. I will be closing my account and going to Wells Fargo now.
Response from the ownerHi Alexus, we'd like to speak with you about this as soon as possible. Please call us at 800-823-2265, and have all of your account information on hand and ready before speaking with the agent.

Alexus Dow1I HATE this bank. I have been with this bank for maybe 2 years now and twice now money has been removed from my account. Both times it was a large amount for what I had in my account. Tomorrow is my little brothers birthday and I checked to make sure I would have enough to get something he would like, I only had $5 left. I KNOW for a fact that not even two months ago I had in between 100-150 in my account. I checked my records and I have spent very little since having that money put in. I was saving up for a memorial tattoo for a loved one who passed away and I almost had enough for it. So I just want to say thank you SO much TCF for making me have to wait even longer for that, and for making it so I can't buy my little brother anything for his birthday.

Zac Lundbohm5I was looking up lobby hours and saw all the trash reviews so thought I'd comment. This is a great TCF branch that seems to keep a lot of the same faces around, for the most part, which is nice. Recently remodeled and the manager has helped me out on multiple occasions with various requests. Thanks
Response from the ownerThank you so much for the great feedback, Zach! We appreciate the kind words, and hope to see you again soon!

Christopher Zimmerman117 yrs with TCF, couldn't take "free checking" and "min savings " charges any longer, and I was a "Plus" member. I had 4 accounts with them, which are all close as of the last 2 months. PEOPLE WAKE UP! put your money in Wells Fargo or Worse yet US Bank(can't stand either) but much "better" then TCF... TCF at least has one thing right, it stands for Take Customers Funds, get out while you can before they implement another charge when ever they feel they need more money for a stadium or maybe "you pay us to hold on to your $"
