Stewart Title Company Reviews

Amy Whittaker1I just wanted to share a story about the business I recently did with Stewart Title in Olympia, WA. It’s not about the money at all. It’s about the lack of empathy, compassion, communication & professionalism that was displayed by this company that I think others should hear about. Long story short, we were owed a refund from closing on our house from the title company, Stewart Title. When I called to inquire why we hadn’t received it. I explained we closed on our house on June 2nd and had yet to receive a check from them. Lisa Jones replied they mailed the check out on Jun. 2nd and it was cashed on Jun. 7th. I told her that we never received anything and have not cashed the check. She asked me to verify with my husband and check our bank accounts, I’m a reasonable person so I agreed even though I know we never received the check. She asked me to call her back after I check on it. Not even 5 minutes later, I call Lisa back and left a voicemail letting her know we never got the check. I then call back the next day and am told Lisa is out of the office for the week on vacation. I asked to be transferred to a member of her team and I was then transferred to Sophie. I explained to Sophie what was going on that I had spoken with Lisa. Sophie then placed me on hold to investigate the issue. When she returned, she reiterated what Lisa had told me about mailing it out on June 2nd and it was cashed on June 7th. I let her know we never received it and never cashed the check and I need to know what address it was mailed to, where it was cashed and who signed it. Sophie then explained to me that I would need to follow up with my bank regarding that information because the only people that can cash a check written out to me and my husband, is us. I reiterated to her that we never received it in the first place in which she said well, it’s out of our hands at this point. I asked her if she thinks I’m lying about the check. She repeated it’s out of our hands, ma’am. I then asked how I am supposed to research where the check went if I never had the check in the first place, she then hung up the phone on me. This made me really upset because they made a good chunk of money off my 500K house I just closed with them. I called back, hoping to give Sophie the benefit of the doubt that we may have been disconnected with terrible timing, but no one would answer the phone for the rest of the day. I waited until Tuesday of the next week and called back. I specifically asked for Sophie. When she answered the phone, she asked if I had a chance to follow up with my bank. I replied Yes, Sophie my bank still has no clue about a check I never received or cashed there. She then said hang on, placed me on hold for 22 minutes and then came back on the line to tell me she would get an answer and call me back. Lisa Jones returned my call a couple hours later. She explained to me that, the amount owed to us is the same amount they send checks to their notaries and they mailed our check out to a notary who then cashed it on accident. I explained my interaction with Sophie to Lisa and she lightly apologized. I explained to her that Sophie was highly out of line and I would be sharing my story with others. She laughed when I said this, which I didn’t appreciate either.

Mike Snyder10/10 Stewart title made closing a literal nightmare. Late on several key pieces of paperwork. Communication was selective at best chosing to provide either me, my spouse, my agent, or my mortgage lender critical information. Never more than one recipient for an email. My favorite communication from stewart was the urgent email at 11:30 at night the day before closing (and one day after they received my wire payment) alerting me to wire fraud and the demand that the wire payment be made two days prior to closing. This had nothing to do with my closing, apparently this is just an automated scare message they send out to all their clients. Thank you stewart title. You made the last month a literal hell hole.

Karen Fineide1When they needed details from me, they we Johnny on the Spot. When I needed details from them, no communication. When I asked why I wasn't informed about closing being delayed, I was the lender, they told me that was the responsibility of the person I loaned the money to. I am sure he had no idea that he was to keep me informed. Even if it wasn't the Title Company's responsibility, really would it have hurt to jot me a quick email explaining that the closing was postpone six days. BTW, today is closing and no one has communicated. One hour and one half until 5pm and nothing said. Wish me luck.

Lee Blyle5Kelly W. is the only escrow officer I use in Thurston County. She has the skills above and beyond anyone one in the industry. Like none other her attention to details, foresight and judgment is what make Stewart Title and Escrow what it is and has for more than a decade.. She's a smiling face that gives you timely information, straight up, no sugar coatings....With her wisdom, (experience and knowledge) why would anyone take their business anywhere else and leave it to chance! She is a rock, never wavering!!!

Kelly Cowell1Lack of communication is my biggest issue with this company when selling our house. Several persons asking for same information over and over. Generally a very painful process. Would not recommend using.
