State Employees’ Credit Union Reviews

latasha curtis1Out of all the SECU locations this one provided the worst customer service experience. The teller was rude and would over talk me when I was concerned about why an account had closed. Then after speaking with someone who fixed the account she couldn't explain why the account was closed. She was confrontational before I could even ask her any questions and was not knowledgeable about her job. I will avoid this bank as much as possible. Sad that this one is the closes one to my home. I would rather drive an hour from my home than to ever deal with this branch again.

Bridgette Gathings5I absolutely love this location they always do all my over the phone transfers from state accts to Local Govt. accts without any trouble. So convenient, the tellers here are very skillful and helpful. Yay!

Jayson Goodman5Thank You Alex Ciliberto for taking a few minutes to help a mutual customer. Alex could have taken the easy way out and told the customer the same thing she was told a few minutes earlier. Instead she took the time to listen to the situation and assess the issue and made a young lady very happy to be able to finish her deal and drive away with the vehicle today instead of going without transportation until Tuesday. A few extra minutes and some common sense didn't personally help me but it helped my customer a great deal and I wanted to recognize Alex for a job VERY WELL DONE. Jayson Goodman Durham's Auto Mart

Joe Dilorenzo1My card number was stolen on Sunday, point of sale at a Target in Durham, $110.... I get the notification immediately. I live in Wake Forest and wasn't in Durham. SECU fraud department tells me sorry but you'll have to wait for your money til we finish out investigation, ok... I'd like a provisional credit, nope... Up to 10 days from yesterday as they had to wait til it posted. I'm disgusted with the customer service in regards to this matter. My money was stolen and I'm the only one that is told you must wait up to, up to 10 days.

Thomas Ellis5With 40 years as an NCSECU member, utilizing this branch for over 25 years, I have never had a bad experience. The tellers are friendly and knowledgeable. The loan officers and administrative staff are always offering to go above and beyond the call of duty to help clients. Tax assistance is provided to hundreds every year. I can only imagine that those who commented negatively where simply having bad days due to other reasons. On a scale of 1-5 they are easily a 20. Banking here is a very positive experience.

Matt Sauer1Can you believe that an employee from this branch opened a $227,000 mortgage with the wrong social security number - yes, they used mine, by accident! I have had the misfortune of dealing with this branch after learning of their egregious negligence through a recent credit report. What’s best, when I spoke with James, manager of this branch, he refused to even offer me a free year of credit monitoring! I now have other names, addresses, hard credit checks, and a quarter-million dollar mortgage on my credit report and only I can have some of this information removed from my credit report, so they cannot even undo some of the damage they caused. I’ll be suing and plan to bring the mortgage documents I obtain during discovery to the media. Once more details are known and the facts come out, I hope someone from this bank will have the opportunity to look back and compare the legal costs of defending their negligence in this matter to my simple request for one year of free credit monitoring. Can you even imagine not granting this request after so drastically and negatively affecting my credit report and credit score? I would most strongly suggest avoiding State Employees Credit Union, if you already have an account, I urge you to consider switching to a bank that treats human beings with respect, this bank and this branch in particular, has not treated me fairly and I hope this causes them significant financial loss.

ShaCarol Stewart2I guess the business itself is okay. However, whenever I’ve gone to this location the drive thru ATMs are never working which is an inconvenience. I’ve attempted to use the ATM (after business hours) on 2 different occasions (several months apart) and the ATM wasn’t working. It goes through the steps then at the end will either dispense no money or the screen says something about an error with the transaction. Definitely be double and triple checking your accounts if you use the ATMs at this location. Because of my recent experience, I’ll be making a call to SECU to make sure no money was “lost” in my unsuccessful attempts to withdraw from my account.

Emily1They closed one of my accounts without contacting me in any way shape or form. I know they have both my correct address and phone number, yet they could not be bothered to use this information to let me know what they were doing with my money. I closed my other account immediately upon finding this out, and am taking my business elsewhere. I thought only big banks like Wells Fargo did this kind of thing. Next I am going to look into where I can file formal complaints against SECU.

William Mckee5This branch is my all time favorite. Corren and Kristy have assisted me many times with issues related to my mother's estate. They are high quality folks and provide as good as it gets help.

Commodity Management1RUDE, READY TO ARGUE TELLER P035 WITH AN ATTITUDE TELLER and mean manager makes for a bad looks for SECU. Refused to give me more than $2000 cash, 25% of my request citing tax checks wiped them out the week before. Well, that’s BAD MANAGEMENT. I’ve NEVER been denied my money from a bank and it’s absolutely frightening. And then the girl with her attitude to ice the cake?
