State Credit Union Reviews

Monica Adams5My mother and I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Sherry Cunningham, a Phone Center Loan Officer with SCU State Credit Union and the experience was top notch. Ms. Cunningham worked diligently with my mother to outline and explain the process every step of the way. Her patience and customer service was amazing. I would definitely recommend SCU State Credit Union and especially Ms. Sherry Cunningham (loan officer) to anyone in the market for a vehicle. Thank you for excellent service!!!

Willy1Well, they actually will charge you almost FOUR dollars for the "convenience" of paying a Visa bill on the phone. You know d-mn well it costs them more when you walk in and hand them cash in person than on the phone, but they've found another way to sock it to the consumer. Even the water company has stopped charging these rip-off fees. I will go in and pay it, but I plan on getting my money's worth by asking a lot of pointless questions and taking up time so they lose a bit of money themselves.

Carolyn Hunt5Among banks in South Carolina this bank has been good for me and my husband for more than 15 years. When we first came to Columbia my husband, through his job open his account here. I was sick and grieving from death of our little girl. He told me they gave him a loan and helped him out. Matt Tichner was the bank officer at the time. He always remembered my husbandand me.
Response from the ownerThank you very much for your kind words! We are happy we could help you in your time of need and we will make sure Matt and his supervisor are made aware of your feedback. Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can assist with your financial service needs in the future :-)

shanoria Loyd2Please do not fool with this bank. We was with this bank for about 10 years. They don't treat you like a customer they just find ways to hit you with fees. We are military so we are not near any location to go in to the office and when you speak to someone on the phone they always have an attitude. This bank took the money out my account and didn't notify neither me or my husband but we did find out when we hit with like 5 overdraft fees. We left this bank for someone that cares.

Steve W1I have always used credit unions instead of banks and so I joined SCSCU when I moved to Columbia 4 years ago. I was reasonably satisfied with this place, despite having fewer branches and longer wait times than either of my previous credit unions... that is until they instituted a $10/mo fee for each of my checking accounts (my wife and I have 3 there). It is VERY POOR TASTE for a credit union to charge it's own members for basic services!!! I dread switching to another establishment as it will require switching many of my auto-pay accounts, but I will do it one day. Until then I won't be doing any more business with them than I absolutely have to.

Bob Schowalter2As a public employee I used SCSCU for over 10 years. First for automatic withdrawals from my wife's paycheck for savings and then to repay an auto loan. Following retirement I neglected to monitor our account closely and the small balance we had maintained became much smaller due to an exorbitant monthly inactivity fee. I believe their fees in general are atrocious and customer service was not much better. I would not recommend SCSCU as a place to do business.
