ORNL Federal Credit Union Reviews

Mindy Riddle5I had a frustrating member experience on my first attempt at paying my rent by phone today. But it's ok, I know everyone makes mistakes and needs a chance to learn. I know as a member, I can call to make internal phone transfers. I do it almost every month. I'm not going to be that member who acts unpleasant with call center representatives. So, I hung up without pressing harder. But, I still needed to get my rent paid on time. I called the Care Center again with hopes of getting a different representative. This call I received Jay. She was polite and professional. The most important part was she actually listened to what I was saying. Thank you Jay for turning my experience around without even knowing it just happened. I strongly believe in credit when credit is due. Jay provided me excellent member service tonight by assisting me with getting my rent paid.
Response from the ownerWe are very glad to hear that Jay was able to take care of your needs and provide you with such excellent member service. We appreciate your kind words and the fact that you took time to leave us a review. Thank you!

Freddie Haddix1Been with them for 18 years. They lie, including the branch manager. They told me they put my deposit on a 2 day hold...6 days later find out they're holding it for 10 days. Never had a bad check in my life. Stay clear, lots of really great banks out there. Moving my assets somewhere else.
Response from the ownerHey Freddie, we apologize for the inconvenience. Would you mind sending your contact info to [email protected] so our management team can get in touch to help? Thank you!

Jason Ramsay1Paid off my car loan and was told the title was mailed in March. Middle of April, no title showed. Called and was told the title had not been released but she will release it today (April 6th.) Now nearing the end of May, no title but when I called I was told the title was released in March again. The solution from corporate was for me to await their release letter and go pay $11 to the state of TN for a duplicate title. Do not use this organization for auto loans. We fulfilled our loan agreement but when it comes time to send the title you are not important anymore. This is the 2nd title issue I have had with ORNL on 2 different vehicles. I will be taking my personal accounts and small business account back to my previous bank.
Response from the ownerHey Jason, we are sorry that this has happened. Could you email us at [email protected] with your contact info so we can get in touch? Thank you!

d1Been with ornl for 17 years and the past 4 to 5 years it has gone down hill, I’ve had the worst time with debit cards and changing address! First my debit card expired while I was on vacation and they never sent me a new one so I went to the bank to ask about that and they avoided the question and just made me a new card and told me to have a nice day. And now they have changed the cards and just asked about it and they said we sent one in November, and they sent it to my old address and told me I will have to report it lost or stolen like what!! I’ve told you all my new address multiple times and they can’t get nothing right. That’s just a small amount of problems I’ve had with them. I WILL BE CLOSING MY ACCOUNT after 17 years with them
Response from the ownerHey there, we would hate to see you go and would love the opportunity to fix this issue for you. Could you send us an email with your contact information to [email protected]? Thank you!

Bob Smith1I had to change my original rating from 3 to 1: Dealing w/ORNLFCU the past few days has been atrociously difficult. The website routinely boots me from the page, simple payments are being continuously flagged as potential spam despite me having verified them by phone & email. On top of this, ORNLFCU lags behind most other banks/credit unions in terms of lacking contemporary financial services & integration (e.g. no use of astra, plaid, etc.). I want to emphasize that the employees I have worked with are great & incredibly helpful - it is just that ORNLFCU as a whole is dated compared to competitors' financial services & ORNLFCU just seems to lack general organization. Getting funds moved around is almost always a sloppy & frustrating experience that can eat away a whole afternoon. Calling for help is a terrible experience as well where you'll be bounced around departments indefinitely. My original review is below: "Great employees & good service, but the fact that ORNLFCU doesn't use Plaid & other contemporary financial services is crazy & has caused me some massive headaches when it comes to doing finances."

Courtney1I tried getting my elderly mother set up on telephone banking. I took her inside and waited in line to speak to someone who admittedly said he didn't know what the member number was when she calls in. The manager at this location wasn't even able to help us complete the set up. They attempted to set up the app and that did not work either. No one at the ornl credit union locations are of any help. This is exactly why I switched to y12.
Response from the ownerHey Courtney, we would be happy to help get your mother setup on our mobile banking app and have a digital team that can walk you through the process. Would you mind getting in touch with us at [email protected]? Thank you!

Karen McMahan1It is ridiculous that no one answers the phone! The endless loop to nowhere is shameful from a city of scientists, get someone to write you good software. We have tried for 3 days! Banking institutions need credible phone service. Same with online, not user friendly. Grade card:F

Lily Greene1My bank account was hacked last month. Closed account. Was put in the negative on my new account because I did not respond to a letter about the fraud claim due to them making a mistake on my address. I WAS HACKED BY MY OWN BANK! Ornl proceeded to withdraw over $300. I went to 2 different bank branches with no help. Literally told to call a number I had already called and been on the phone with for 3 hours. I do not recommend ORNLFCU for ANY banking needs. Nothing was handled professionally hints the closing of mine and my family’s accounts. Would be great if someone could have helped me but instead I was viewed as a problem.
Response from the ownerHey Allyson, we hate to hear that this happened! We'd love the chance to rectify this. Please send us your contact information to [email protected] so our management team can get in touch. Thank you!

jennifer jones1Definitely choose a better place to bank. Online banking is important to me. ORNL has not fixed an issue with online banking in a few days. They gave no notice, no apology, or even not so much of a response to the issue. My family will be finding a new bank in the near future
Response from the ownerHey Jennifer, we are very sorry to our members who are experiencing the online banking outage over the weekend. We are working diligently with our developer to correct this issue asap. We will alert everyone when it is up and running, which we expect soon.

Stephanie Anderson2I have been a member of this bank for more than 20 years. I have not been happy with them for some time now and I truly know that it is time to move on. The only reason that I have remained here is because of my own procrastination and not taking the time to join another bank and for convenience. I have my son's account linked to mine and it just makes life easier. After this last round with them I am truly done. I used an ATM machine that was not an ORNL ATM and it duplicated the with-drawl amount from my account. I immediately called the bank when I noticed it and they kept giving me the run around. I spoke to several different reps and one even stated that she had spoken with her supervisor and told me that I had to call the bank that the ATM was associated with to get them to refund my money. My question was...why should I have to contact the bank, what is the purpose of having my money in a credit union if I have to do my own investigations for fraud or duplicate transactions? When I called the other bank the rep told me that ORNL was full of it and they could not help me, she stated that what they told me was ridiculous, they are supposed to do the investigating! I said thank you I already knew that, I just did what they said I needed to do. After making 6 phone calls and getting no help from the visa fraud line or the bank, after 3 days the bank with the ATM machine caught the error and refunded my money. I have had several run ins with this bank and I am starting to feel like their lack of assistance is racially motivated. I have spoken to several people who have not had the issues that I have had with this bank and this is just one example. I have many more. My account has remained in good standing and I receive direct deposit, my acct has been in good standing since I have been a member yet I have been turned down for personal loans, and car loans, when I have had no trouble getting approved from other banks for the same requests. I have several white friends with foreclosure, repossessions and garnishments that have received personal loans from this credit union. I do not have any of those things on my credit report, which confirms for me that they are racially discrimating. I am just really fed up with this credit union and it does not benefit me to be a member. I have had my last bad experience with them.
