If it weren't for the incidents I'll talk about in the following paragraphs, I'd still probably only give them 2 stars. Their service is very slow and it takes forever to get in. Sometimes I've had to wait so long for someone to even ask why I was there that I thought they couldn't see me. They act like you're bothering them just being there. If you're thinking about buying a car at Murdock Hyundai, don't get the service package, because once you do, they have your money and they have no motivation to give you a satisfactory experience. Now for the reason I gave them 1 star. I dropped my car at 4:30 for an oil change and a tire rotation. I waited and waited for them to notify me that my car was done. At about 7 o'clock I tried calling with no answer. I spent the whole night wondering what was going on because I didn't have a ride to go see. The next morning I showed up early to find that the power was cut off because of the construction they were doing. I don't blame them for the power outage, but I am upset that they didn't even try to reach out to me to tell me what was going on. They all had cell phones they could've called with, or they could've asked another office to contact me but no, I spent all night worrying for nothing. Other than this power outage, their construction has made things more inconvenient than it was before. The parking lot is a tight maze and they're working out of a trailer with no obvious place for costumers to enter. What's worse is when I made my appointment, they didn't tell me any other this.

      Response from the owner

Hi Spencer. It sounds like we could have done a better job communicating with you about your car. Please accept our apologies. As you noted, we are currently undergoing major renovations of our Hyundai building, which began about the time you were in for service. While we planned for this, there are always unexpected situations that cause delays. Our shop has already been operating at capacity. Part of the reason for the facility upgrades is to increase capacity and create a better environment and experience for our guests. We appreciate your patience in the meantime. Best regards, Murdock Hyundai Murray.

My experience with dealing with Michael R was not the greatest. I went for a walk-in oil change and Michael happened to be the advisor to help me. Michael asked me if I wanted to do my 30k service but I said no because I didn't want to be there for 4 hours versus the 2 and a half hours it takes for an oil change whether you make an appointment or walk in. That's when it seemed he got an attitude and the last time I talked to him. I got there at 1025 am and left at 1250 pm. Never heard any updates had to ask a different advisor if my vehicle was ready. Denton was nice enough to finish up checking out my car back to me, but disappointed in not hearing anything about my car. To top it off I'm 8 and a half months pregnant and they made me walk to their back lot to find my car. I had to use my panic alarm to find where they placed my car. I had oil smudges all over my windshield as well so that was an added bonus. If I didn't have the oil change package I wouldn't be doing business with Murdock anymore and I have used Murdock for more than 6 years.

Unfortunately, I had the worst experience this past time. I made an appointment for AC issues and an oil change. When it came to pay, the AC was $700 dollars to replace a hose and recharge it! Wow! That was quite a bit more than I expected so I decided I needed to think about it. I wad then told I would have a $106 diagnostic fee. I've been coming here for years and have never been charged this. I asked to speak to a manager and it was eventually removed. I was told they always charge this fee, but I know this to be a lie. They are trying to increase revenue and this is one way they are trying to entrap you. If there is a fee, that's ok, but tell people when they book and when they drop their car off. Don't spring a $106 fee on someone who has been a long time customer. I will not come here again. And guess who is looking for a new car as we speak. Guess $106 was worth more than a customer who has spent thousands at this dealership. This is poor customer service. This is how you lose customers.

      Response from the owner

Hi Cody. We appreciate your repeat business and are sorry that you had a poor experience on your last visit. It sounds like we could have done a better job communicating fees at the time you booked your appointment or arrived at the shop. We apologize for that. Our technicians are paid for their work whether that work is diagnostic or is spent completing maintenance or repair. The diagnostic fee is indeed one we have charged for many years, not to increase revenue, but to cover costs incurred. When the customer chooses to have repairs made at our shop, we waive the fee and absorb those costs in the profit of the work paid for by the customer. That might be why you haven't incurred the diagnostic fee in the past. We hope you'll consider us again in the future. Best regards, Murdock Hyundai Murray.

Recently had my engine replaced, after spending a significant amount of money to do so the car has never run right after. In a two month span I will have had to take it in 3 times oil leakage, engine light has been going on and off and at one point while turning left it had stalled out and was almost hit because it wouldn't move. I need to take it in again but they have informed me they don't have a car for me to use even though I have been without a car for a lot of time in the last two months because having to take it in and live an hour away. Truly after all this wish I would have just bought a new car.

      Response from the owner

Hi Sofia. We understand your frustration with this situation and are interested in bringing it to a resolution. Thank you for your patience.

This might sound terrible but its true. I dropped off my car for service at 8:30 in the morning and was told that it will be ready in a couple hours. I heard nothing until 2 PM, so I gave them a call back. starting 2 PM and right now its 4:30 PM, I have not been able to get any answer about what is going on with my car. I literally waited for more than 2 hours just to speak to someone. And to top it off, when I bought this issue into the attention of person who was talking to me (probably front desk at service), he was super rude and disrespectful. Never ever going again to this place.

      Response from the owner

Hi Arpit. We apologize for the difficulty and wait time you experienced in our shop. Your feedback is appreciated and has been shared with our service management team. Best regards, Murdock Hyundai Murray.

I've been really happy with Murdock's . They've been always helpful. But I've been trying to get in to get my car serviced. I've placed 8 calls in the last two weeks, twice going thru the main phone, and no one answers or even goes to voice mail! I'm disappointed.

I must say I'm pretty disappointed. I understand with low paying jobs that staffing is a current issue. So the wait times don't play a part in this. Rather its the very poor quality of hyundai vehicles and the difficulty in repairing them here. This is my 3rd brand new hyundai, and my 3rd check engine before the first oil change on said vehicles. In this case its a bad oxygen sensor, at 2k miles... also repair parts are not available to fix it. So I now run the risk of damage due to that. Also there is no technicians to facilitate the repair even when the part arrives. I traded in my last hyundai, that I bought new. As it was misfiring and left my family and I stranded in a snow storm on the freeway. I never plan on purchasing another hyundai vehicle. If I wanted to take hours and days out of my busy schedule to deal with broken, poor quality products I will purchase a used geo metro and save the wasted thousands spent here.

      Response from the owner

Hi Tom. We are sorry about the problems you've experience with your Hyundais. Thank you for your patience while we do our best to service your vehicle. Best regards, Murdock Hyundai Murray.

If you call, expect to be placed on hold for upwards of ten minutes. Wait times are absolutely insane; I was told a few months back to expect a 45 minute wait to check my tire pressure, and was told today that even if I schedule an appointment, the expected wait time for an oil change is four hours. They also do that thing where car dealerships try and up sell you unnecessary services. Edit: note that the did reply to this review…two months later.

      Response from the owner

Hi Robert. We are sorry for the wait times. We are working to increase staffing and shop capacity to meet the demand on our service department. Thank you for your patience.

I’m disappointed in the experience I had with the service center today. I had scheduled an appointment nearly a month ago for a regular maintenance check and oil change. I got reminder after reminder about this appointment. So, I drove from Layton to Murray in rush hour traffic to make my slot, only to arrive to a nice gentleman telling me they were too busy with one tech to work on several cars, yet I saw 3 men sitting around appearing to be doing nothing. Even though I had made an appointment PLENTY in advance, I was still turned away and told to come at 7am another day for a guaranteed service. Such a bummer that even an appointment can’t get you in their shop. Even a phone call asking for a reschedule would have been nice. I’ve expected lots better from Murdock.

I've been getting my Hyundai serviced here for years. Unfortunately, the service center has really gone downhill. Yesterday, I dropped my car off for warrantee work, was told it would take 2 or 3 hours. 7 hours later, 2 hours before closing time, I hadn't heard anything from them. I called to find out what was going on with my car, I got transferred to somebody else then got put on a hold for 30 minutes. I hung up and called back, then got transferred again. This time I held for 60 minutes without ever finding out what was going on with my car. This morning I got a text message that was borderline indecipherable, saying my car was finished but was confusing enough that it left me with questions about what they had actually done. I asked him (via text) to please call me when he had a minute. He said it was going to be a while because he was busy helping OTHER people and that I should just come pick up my car instead. This is the worst service I've ever had at any car service center in my entire life, bar none.
