  Update 1 day later: Still keeping with the 3 star because the issue is only due to me inputting my mailing address when I opened the 1st account, thats it, thats the big issue that this company seems to have to jump through multiple hoops through, which honestly doesn't make sense. Emailed them after the response on here, a new customer service person wrote me saying the EXACT same thing, that the address did not match, so he needed clarification. Well duh, I just went through this, and your other customer service person told me she updated it. So I emailed back nicely, correct that is the address as with the ID and utility bill which all matches. No answer. I email back 3 hours later to ask what is going on, yes a bit quick but based on time of response it seems to be needed to get anything done to be pushy. Response I received; "We apologize for the delay, our accounts team is working on getting the address changed. They must coordinate with our clearing firm to make sure the addresses match, so we can open the account. Once the change is complete and verified from our clearing firm, we can manually open the account on our end.". I don't know, but seems like a whole lot of work going on to change the only address I input only 1 time from the open, thats it. Original: I'm not one to usually leave reviews for anything, but what you read about the LACK of customer service is true. Now my review is only about the opening of an account, because after a week I haven't even been able to use the system. I am not new to trading, and looking at this company I like the idea of the way they have their portfolios setup for you to personally manage. Opened an account. Then received notice they need additional verification, ID and utility bill. No problem, might have figured they need additional info since it should be a secure account, so I send it over. 3 days later receive an email that they will close my account and I can log in and reopen a new one and input the information, since the address I originally input was my mailing, and not the same as the home. Well okay, I understand the need for addresses, but why can't you just adjust the address in the system instead of closing it completely? I email back, and so far nothing 2 days later. Meantime, I tried as suggested and guess what, the new account says the same thing, they need me to send additional info same ID and utility bill for verification. Really? I just did what you said. Also with this in mind, they have the old account still there, and you wouldn't know it unless you look in the money transfer section. But of course, they are willing to connect your bank account without even a properly approved account. Wow! Quick connect your account and add funds, but we won't let you use them. Something is off with this company, and if not, then they need to do some serious security work. And M1Finance, don't blame me for a factual review of the lack of support you offer.

  Negative 5 stars, Terrible experience with M1, they don't let you withdraw your funds, I have been trying to withdraw my fund for 2 weeks and still haven't received them, the customer service is horrendous, unresponsive to any request they simply tell look at the FAQ instead of addressing the problem, with so many fee free alternatives avoid this platform at all cost, use a more reputable and customer focus platform, this one is trash. I have experienced this issue multiple times.

  Signing up is a snap. It only takes $100 to get started and then you can add as little as $10 anytime. Makes investing automatic. Takes care of dollar cost averaging for you. Fractional shares allows you to buy the best deals and/or companies you believe in, not just what you can afford.

  For a beginner investor like myself, M1 can be a bit intimidating at first, because it covers so much detail. The support folk have been very patient and helpful. I plan to start sharing M1 with my grandchildren... because I started very late in life, they can grow with M1 and prosper on a scale much better than I. THANKS M1 !

  They service is trash. They say commission free but every time you sell a stock they take $5 out the account. Nothing with this app is free. Worse mistake ever. I will go with webull much better service easier platform. Also customer service won’t answer your questions or why they charge the fee for selling stocks. Lost a lot of money with this app.

  I knew nothing about investing but a friend said to me, "Try M1 Finance. They'll get you up to speed on investing... and treat you right." So I did sign up. The staff is very helpful. They never made me feel inferior. Great to be a subscriber!

  Cool little utility that can help building financial security, provide you with the tools to learn about investing, actually invest without transaction fees, and grow your portfolio over time greater than if you'd been charged Txn fees on all of the transactions. In my opinion, it is one of the best tools out there to allow the "common man" who lives paycheck to paycheck, actually invest $10 or $20 a week/month/whatever, successfully. Since they buy "partial shares" or essentially allow you to invest in a stock by the dollar amount rather than share amount, like a mutual fund, all without transaction fees...investing that $20 doesn't require a 300% growth just to get your original $20 back! I've got my Son and Daughter both doing their own (investment/financial/business) homework and actually learning about investing in the stock market by actually doing it! Great job M1!!!

  Hands down,Investing made simple. Maybe not all the the bells and glitter for the big time investor. For a stock enthusiast like myself that has the enthusiasm but not the funds of a big time investor this is the perfect platform. I would also highly recommend this app for the millennium and beyond to start their successful investing future. Grampy Z!

  When I first signed up they allowed investments as low as $10 to be made and allowed for purchase of securities to be made for less than $1. Now, the minimum investment is $25 and the they don't execute buy transactions which are less than $1. It feels as if they pulled a bait and switch. I'm actively looking to move my investment assets to another platform.

  M1 is my favorite online brokerage. Choosing exactly the investments I want and investing every cent with fractional shares are the killer features for me -- and even better, it's totally free. If you're at all interested in investing, it is the best platform to do so by leaps and bounds.
