I bank with a credit union for a reason. I can call them and a person answers. This used to be the case with the credit union I had that Horizon took over. Now with Horizon Credit Union I spend several minutes navigating an annoying menu system full of information that is not relevant to me. Might as well bank with a regular bank instead of a credit union..

      Response from the owner

We are working to address the delay in our call times and we are here to assist you if you have questions of how to best navigate our phone menu to get what you need. Horizon Credit Union needs to review their policy My father, who served in the military for decades, passed away last summer. He and my mother had purchased an RV trailer through HCU under his name. It was always paid on time and in fact was paid ahead of schedule. Last month my mother (74years old) went in to Horizon credit union* to see the remainder amount, and make a payment (with documents saying she was in charge if his estate signed by a judge, and his death certificate). The lady said they required copies of original documents and would accept the payment but could not share the balance information explaining my mother "just didn't understand the financial world." Frustrated my mother left, but it didn't stop there. The lady in charge of loans called my mother with three options 1) Pay it off 2) Re-apply for the loan under her name (adding at least .5% interest to the loan) 3) It would be repossess by the bank. My mother asked me for help and I couldn't believe what I was hearing so I called HCU again to verify what they needed. They confirmed what she had said, and stated they needed an answer as to our intentions. I said I would like to talk to our attorney and there reply was "people who go that route never win" I note these three things 1) There was no delay in payments, my mother had executive order over my dads estate. This is NOT the policy of other institutions 2) She was a recent widow who had a stroke the week my father died and that the agent could possibly have treated her with any respect. 3) Due to Covid-19, threatening an elderly person to sign documents "in person" is irresponsible.

Wow is the best way to describe this credit union!! I recently was offered a line of credit on a travel trailer by Horizon Credit Union. Even though the Interest Rate wasn’t as good as some other financial institutions, the length of the loan fit perfect, and I figured the small difference in interest rate could be easily made up with paying the loan off faster. Also, they were semi local! Here is what I’ve found. If you want to make a payment using your debit card, well you get charged a $7 fee each time. Now its not the end of the world as you can setup reoccurring payments through your bank, but $7 fee is steep. Second, they require that if you use their loan you must provide insurance from the date of purchase. This isn’t a big deal either as most financial institutions also require the same thing. What’s the kicker? The kicker is, if you take a little time to shop for insurance, they will penalize you for it. They say they offer a grace period, but after talking to 3 different people that work there, I come to find that’s not true. They try and scare you with if you don’t get insurance you will pay over $3,000 for only 1 years’ worth of insurance, and if there is any lapse they will charge you that, at a so called pro-rated rate, to which they can’t tell you. Also, they will tell you that they pay the insurance up front and this is to recoup their cost. After digging a little further, I found out that they don’t pay it up front but will tack it on to your loan. Third, after trying to talk to them reasonably about my situation and asking for them to be considerate I was met with argumentative rebuttals, deceit, and failure to disclose their managers information, so that I could escalate the conversation. I was told numerous things that were untrue, and they implied that it was my fault for misunderstanding. Overall not happy at all with this credit union, and I warn those that choose to use them to make sure that you don’t have any extenuating circumstances, otherwise they will choose money over customer service. I also warn you that this credit union is solely in the profession to mislead its customers and use practices that ultimately help their bottom line. What happened to small town local banks that are hear for their customers?

      Response from the owner

Hi Jeffery, thank you for taking your time to leave your feedback. The fee on Ioan payments is only if you’d like to make a one-time immediate payment with a debit card. There is no fee with recurring transfers. The one-time option is available as a convenience to members. We would be open to chatting with you more about your experience with your loan to look into the details further and answer any questions. If you would like, please contact us at [email protected]. Thanks again for taking time to leave your feedback. We value hearing your perspective. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you. - Horizon Credit Union

I was given a check from an account holder of Horizon Credit Union. I was unable to cash that check even though the funds were in his account to cover the check. They told me they could only release $2500 cash and write me a cashier's check for $3500 for the remainder. I Would not recommend banking here for the sake of your transactions. Very frustrating for those coming to cash your checks!

      Response from the owner

Hi Kelly, thanks for taking a minute to leave your feedback. We do have a $2,500 daily cash limit when it comes to cashing a check and we try to offer convenient solutions like a cashier’s check if appropriate. This is our policy we abide by across the board and we're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. - Horizon Credit Union

Asked for my account number to fill out a form. I asked the operator to stay on the line incase I entered it incorrectly as there was a 15 minute hold and I didn't want to have to wait again. They said the could do that and hung up 5 seconds later. It may have been a miscommunication however it's still annoying. Also, the page did end up freezing and I had to reload it, loosing the number I had typed in.

      Response from the owner

Hi Shael, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced as well as the wait time on the phone. We're actively working to shorten wait times to accommodate the higher call volume we're experiencing. Were you able to get your number again? Bottom of the barrel customer service. Like the dried up crumbs at the bottom of the bread bag.. wishing they could be part of an actual piece of bread. This is why Horizon will never be what they “strive” to be.

      Response from the owner

Hi Amber, thank you for leaving your feedback. Would you be willing to reach out to us at [email protected] to share more detail around your customer service experience and answer any questions that may come up? Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon.

I opened up an account with the credit union cuz a friend says it would help me I left x amount of dollars in there as a savings account for when I needed it I went to go use that money and close the account and they told me because I haven't used the account in x amount of months that they just slowly took my money and no one notified me about it I do not recommend this bank as they are Crooks and thieves because you have to pay to open an account there and then if you use it as a savings account they take your money every month and don't tell you about it Crooks Crooks Crooks

      Response from the owner

Hi Tarrel, thanks for leaving a review. We’re sorry to hear about your surprise in finding out your account was deemed in-active. We have several communication steps in place to alert members before a fee starts being assessed on the account. We have double checked that process and have ensured that it is working. We’d recommend you confirm your contact information to help ensure you receive important communications from the credit union. We take your feedback seriously and will take it into consideration as we strive to provide the best member service possible.
