Georgia United Credit Union Reviews

Jeff Evans1UPDATE! almost have everything setup to transfer to another bank but needed to come back and adjust to 1 star after submitting a bonus payroll check complete with company logo for deposit, had it accepted and then rejected a day later with an email that went to my junk mailbox in Gmail. I work for a local well known and respected large company that actually provides services to GUCU! They actually used to be good - BUT after years of putting up with customer service that cannot do anything to actually help you, branches that are almost non existent, ATM's that charge exorbitant fees, car loan criteria that reflect the car market is 2010 and now a "new" system that evidently doesn't even have the features the "old" one had I am finally done with GUCU. Absolutely ridiculous. There are WAY too many superior credit unions out there to deal with this archaic setup that calls itself a bank.. Do your self a favor and go somewhere else..
Response from the ownerHello Jeff, We are sorry to hear that your satisfaction with has diminished. We are consistently reviewing member feedback to enhance our member experience with the right staff at our branches and member care center, hundreds of surcharge-free ATMs in our partner networks (can be found in our Locations page), and further improving our systems. We hope we are able to continue to serve you as we go through this journey.

nspanic1They place holds on everything over 1000$ and one of their tellers inside might be the biggest capital B under the sun. I would NEVER recommend anyone to come to this credit union. Their technology is current if today was 1997, terrible app, terrible online user interface, terrible bank.
Response from the ownerHello, we apologize that our service delivery did not quite meeting your needs or expectations. We can look into why your account may be caught in an automated hold process as that is not common. Please share your contact info to the [email protected] email. We'll also like to understand more details that can be used for coaching. We are consistently evaluating our service platforms, so we'll be happy to hear your detailed feedback. Thank you for being a Georgia United Credit Union member.

Alexandra Hill2Good luck dealing with fraud charges on your account. We had three fraud charges from MICROSOFT XBOX this weekend and we were told we had to go to a branch in-person for signature verification before an investigation could be started on the charges. So I called the number for the Gaines School branch at 9:01AM on a Monday. I was on hold for 30 minutes and transferred three different times only to end up in a voicemail box for the branch. If you are going to require an appointment at a branch, you need to have an option on the main menu to set up an appointment AT THE BRANCH. You've had about 13 months to get your system together to deal with COVID. This is so frustrating. Not to mention I am about to close on a mortgage with GUCU in three days. I hope I never have to talk on the phone with someone about my mortgage.
Response from the ownerHi Alexandra, We apologize for the service failure. A member of our service team will reach out to you immediately to assist you. Thank you for using Georgia United Credit Union and we hope to have the continued opportunity to re-earn your trust.

Stacey Anderson1They could not help me for 3 days when my card information was stolen. They were closed and I couldn't get anything disputed until they opened again or ask what to do or what was going on. They should be available 365 to dispute fraudulent charges on your account, not only during the week. We don't choose when our money gets stolen and I should be able to get help to get my hard earned money back at any time. Eventually, I was able to speak to a really nice lady who was able to help me but that was ONLY after 3 days of waiting and I was given the same phone number that lead me to the same person and was told there was nothing I could do until they opened. Thank you to that sweet employee at the Duluth call center for caring about my money and listening and fully helping me, but the rest of them severely dropped the ball and I am likely to chance credit unions now. Because they clearly can't help you when you have an immediate need to speak to someone about your hard earned money. Update: I got a call from the service manager who was completely understanding and willing to help any way she could. I greatly appreciate her help and of the sweet woman who helped me to start with. Thank you for understanding.
Response from the ownerHi Stacy, we are sorry your experience with Georgia United was less than satisfactory. Our Director of Member Service is reaching out to you.

Whitney Clark1I dont like this bank. Closing my account. Was charged twice overdraft from error on it banks part and refusing to give me my money and plus they give you the run around when you need help. During a pandemic you will at a least think the banks is here to help best as they can.
Response from the ownerHi Whitney, We are sorry to hear our service disappointed you. A member of our Service Experience team will be reaching out to you soon to learn about your experience to see how we can improve for you and other members.

Rebecca Baggett2Individuals who work with one in the office are wonderful. The phone system is completely and utterly exasperating and inefficient -- WHY can a line not connect directly to the office for which it's listed? Why would any 800-number require one to go through a survey before connecting? Why would a line on hold for over 20 minutes then route to someone who must send the customer to the same office with which she thought she was connecting the first time and put her back on hold? I am afraid that expansion, as is so often the case, has not improved the experience for those of us who loved Georgia Federal Credit Union back in the day.

Brett Marshall1Dropped in on my local branch this Saturday. They were helping folks do taxes, which is great. However, they weren't open for business. It's been awhile since I've been there on a Saturday, and it looks like I won't be back either. My branch (and all Athens branches) are no longer open on Saturday mornings. This infuriates me, because they're open for 39 hours/week, all during standard work hours. How in the hell are you supposed to actually use it? What's worse, the manager who was there on Saturday got snappy with me really quickly. He said "We've NEVER been open on Saturdays, ever, so I don't know where you got this idea that we would be open." I called him on his lie, saying the only time I ever actually drop in is on Saturdays, albeit rarely. He responds with "Well, not since I've been here!" He didn't actually identify himself. Branch manager? Tax guy? I have no idea, but he pretended to be in charge. Guy was a walking dick weasel. So, congrats credit union! The ONLY reason I use a credit union is because I believe in supporting local, and the pros/cons of a bank and a credit union are pretty similar for your average banker. This sorta does it for me. Whenever I am able (who knows, since I can't come in on Saturdays apparently), I will be closing my account with this credit union and opening an account with someone who can be open Saturday mornings. This seems really petty, but it's literally the only time I am able to go. Also, I would be MUCH more forgiving if the guy I spoke to wasn't a tremendous asshat about it. I hope someone from higher up finds this message, figures out who the dude was, and disciplines him.
Response from the ownerHi Brett, we are sorry for this inconvenience. We have forwarded your message to our leadership team and a team member will be reaching out to you shortly.

anthony montalvo1Absolutely wasted my time. Called inquiring about setting up an account. Stupid machine said 4 minute wait time and after 10 minutes hung up on me. When I called back it said it was a 4 minute wait time again, waited 40(yes 4,0!) minutes for not one to answer and an ear piercing message every 10 seconds saying thank you for waiting someone will be right with you.
Response from the ownerHi Anthony, we are extremely sorry for the longer than normal wait times you experienced. Can you please email us at [email protected] with the best contact number so we can contact you?
