Dow Chemical Employees' Credit Union Reviews
K
Kayla Roder5I have not been one to write reviews in the past. I have had my account with Dow Credit Union for over a decade now. They are by far the BEST financial institution I have ever had. The staff is incredibly helpful, in person and through their App's support chat. They are extremely quick to respond. Not to mention, any issues of theft or fraud I've faced over the years were expediently resolved with no cost or harm to myself. Their user interface for mobile and online account service is impeccable. As a credit union, Dow Credit Union is not-for-profit which makes them able focus on providing excellent service for their members (me). This is without question. I have a credit card through them and have refinanced a car loan through them, as well (all of which transitioned very smoothly). I cannot speak on mortgages, nor do I hold a High Yield account. But every interaction I have had with my Credit Union has been outstanding. I wouldn't dream of opting for another financial institution.

Nancy Lindley5Hubby and I have been DCECU customers for over 35 years when Dow transferred us to Midland. Kept our accounts even when Dow downsized us. Since then, we got vehicle loans from them in the 90s and early 2000s over the phone. Easy-peasy. Now we retired and travel the world. DCECU is our only U.S. bank. Yes, it would be nice if DCECU had 24 hr call center, but we can work around this. The Visa card security is excellent and much appreciated and the Visa people do have 24 hr call center. It's always easy to unlock the Visa card. I've seen too many U.S. friends overseas get messed over by the big national U.S. banks.

Ron Parker2Make sure you have money in the correct accounts here. I keep all my money in checking typically. When I went to use PayPal for the first time with my DCECU account, it tried to pull from savings that resulted in a 20 dollar nsf fee AND the payment being declined. I had plenty of money in checking to cover the purchase in checking. I thought Paypal was setup to draw from checking but apparently you need to put a different prefix on your account number for it to draw from checking. You also cannot automatically pull money from checking if your savings doesn't have money in it. This was all news to me. Hopefully this helps avoid other members receiving fees in the future. I have had good experiences with their loan department in the past but that's about it. This last experience was infuriating.

Josh Price1If I could not give them a star I would. They are trying to charge me an additional $450.44 on my loan. Just paid a week ago and they are saying I owe them. I would NEVER recommend them to any one. I have a customer base of north of 30,000 making sure they will not bank here.

B Johnson1Wow!!! They put a deposit in my account that was not mine, they took it back out, no issues, now that same account is paying bills out of my account and I'm overdrawn, sent me a nasty letter about maintaining a specific balance, kinda hard when they debt your account for someone else's bills!!!!

Danielle Lockhart5They're always so nice here. I love everyone. Someone tried to use my card in Flordia and the caught it before the money was released. I went to the office and was able to get a brand-new in less than 15 minutes.

T.J. Cheslik1The only reason that I am leaving 1 star is because I had to select one. This company seems great at first and for a couple months it was a really good credit union; good rates, friendly staff (for the most part), easy loan process, and everything could be done online so I didn't have to drive to sign loan papers. Because of this I ended up purchasing 2 vehicles with them as the loan provider. The first still no issues as of yet. However, about 6 months after purchasing my second vehicle I got a call saying that I was late on my truck payment which I knew wasn't true because it is a direct withdraw every week and I made sure that it did every week. Turns out the reason it was showing late was because the proof of insurance that I provided them when signing the paper was no longer good enough. Now I was expected to upload a declaration page to this 3rd party insurance portal, which I didn't have to do with my other loan or any vehicle that I have ever had a loan for. Either way I worked through the timely process with the bank to get everything submitted. I then also paid this "past due" balance (which I was told would be refunded once they confirmed I had insurance all along) to make sure that I did not receive any further late fees, which I didn't feel was my responsibility as I had provided everything they requested at the time of signing the papers for the loan. Fast forward a month and I got the same call again today, 4/30/21, telling me my account was past due because of late fees and the CPI that they continued to try to charge me. I am currently waiting on a call back after a loan officer calls my insurance company to verify the info I already sent them. I have since got an email address to send the declaration pages to (that I was denied last month) and I sent the confirmation from the myinsurance portal saying they received it and was working with the credit union, as well as copies of the declaration pages. I am disgusted to say the least how unprofessional this credit union has turned out to be. They expect you to do their work for them and then they charge you bogus fees if they are to incompetent to review information for themselves. Or they loose it and don't want to lift a finger to find or fix their mistake. If I were you, I would seriously consider whether or not you have other options otherwise you are going to be expected to go above and beyond what a normal credit union would expect of you. You may also pay untold bogus fees so they can profit off of their own incompetence.

Spencer Lindenberg1I've worked for multiple financial institutions (not DCECU) in the past, so I have a great understanding of how deposit accounts, loans, etc. are originated and serviced. I've never been a customer of another institution as frustrating to work with as DCECU. Their online banking is essentially pointless for anything other than viewing activity, as changes to contact information, external payment accounts, automatic payments, etc. cannot be done online. They also take account security overboard, to the point it's a chore to simply call them to change those details over the phone that they don't allow to be done through mobile banking or online banking. Listen, I desire strong security protocols, but even big banks/card providers like Chase, Citi, Bank of America, etc. have much more efficient and less painstaking ways to verify identity. My wife and I recently got new phone numbers, which we called to update with them over the phone (after being local to DCECU's service area, we recently moved a couple hours away but still have consumer loans with DCECU). You would think updating your phone number and stating your former one was inactive would mean that former number is changed in every facet of one's customer profile....but not with DCECU. After being notified upon logging into my online banking that a verification text would be sent to my former number, I was left dead in the water - unable to get any type of verification code that was required to log in, even after having updated my phone number over a week prior. A phone call to DCECU led to me being explained that my phone had been updated in some areas of my customer profile but not others. And it was not explained as being a mistake, but as being their typical protocol. To sum it all up - find another financial institution to work with. Pretty much any other bank or credit union will be easier to deal with.

Skowalski Hughes5Been a loyal member of the credit union for almost 3 years now. Never had a problem with them. I really appreciate getting money back from them, I believe it's quarterly. Look forward to doing more with DCECU in the future.

Hit Al1This place is the worst!! They are bad at everything they do. Poor customer service, they sell your personal information and will randomly put security holds on your card in the name of security, but then you are stuck inline embarrassed and have to cancel your order. Then 15 min later they call you to verify it was you.
