Building Trades Federal Credit Union Reviews

Dawn Scheeler1We had fraudulent activity on our account. Building and Trades does not help you with this. They make you cancel your cards, call another # that will do a "investigation" It takes at least 10 days to find out weather you will get your money back and at least 10 days to get new cards. You should not have to deal with a 3rd party company to do a investigation and get your money back. Building in Trades should be doing this for their customers . It is not a good feeling to see that your card information has been hacked and you call your back for support, to hear "We don't handle fraudulent activity, you will have to call another # and they will help you. I was beyond shocked that they could do NOTHING for us. A lot of banks can print you a new debit card on the spot. Not a option at all with Building and Trades. Its 2022 there is no reason there should be a lot of hassle when something like this happens. Extremely disappointed and looking to bank elsewhere.

Kevin Kuglin5I always have the BEST experience with Building Trades Credit Union. They have been my bank for practically my whole teenage life until now (about 10+ years now). Applying for a loan is easy and stress free. Everyone from the bank tellers to the loan specialists are extremely caring and professional. I look forwarding to many more years with BTCU!
Response from the ownerWe appreciate the support Kevin! We also look forward to many more years of you banking with us!

Nichole Rolsing1horrible credit union. high intrest rates, dont care about their consumers well being, and if you are a day late from the grace period they report you 30 days late, even if u call ahead they will just say oh well there's absolutely nothing we will do for you. they dont care. they give snarky looks at you when you withdraw money, and are rude over the phone. if my husband's union didn't force us to use them, we would pull out in a heartbeat! and yes we are forced to use this credit union, because the union forces our vacation funds to go to this bank. and almost 15% interest rate on a vehicle loan is crazy! unless you have near perfect credit, u won't get a good APR. and by calling ahead, i don't mean just call ahead and think thats enough. other places offer programs to deffer a payment to help when u have a rough month. the lady told me there are no programs or options to help u from having a mark on your credit report. she literally said to my husband too bad pay on time and u won't have a problem than. we have had the loan since 2016, and we still owe 59% of the loan. only 2 late payments ever. they are Also so secretive about loan terms that if i asked them if its under 10 days late is there a late fee and how much late fees are. they got snarky with me in the drive through like i was breaking the law by asking. yes i know u don't allow any personal information at all to be disclosed to a non borrower, but thats ridiculous. its literally a general question for god sakes. general information is not the same thing. i could have been someone who was just inquiring about random loan info. if u don't want bad reviews than maybe you should try and actually help your members instead of treating us that have bad experiences as if we are making things up.
Response from the ownerAt BTCU, our staff is expected to treat all members with respect, whether on the phone or in a branch. The financial well-being of our members is one of our highest priorities. That’s why we strive to continually improve our products and services, keep our rates competitive, and spend countless hours each year providing financial literacy education to union members. No one is forced to use our Credit Union. Banking with us is a privilege offered only to union workers in the building and construction trades. If you don't wish to bank with us, you don't have to. Our loan interest rates are often among the lowest in the market. We have a committee which meets monthly to compare our rates with competitors and ensures that we’re providing very competitive rates for our members. No loans are reported to consumer credit reporting agencies as 30-days late unless they are in fact 30 or more days late. We offer a 10-day grace period beyond the payment due date before a late fee is charged. Nothing is reported to credit bureaus until a loan payment is at least 30 days late. Calling ahead does not relieve a borrower from their obligation to make a loan payment on time. If you would like to speak with a manager to discuss your individual concerns, we would love to speak with you. Please call us at 763-315-3888.

Chris Fritz1Yes we were forced to join your credit union to access our vacation fund! But at least there's 3 inconvenient locations!
Response from the ownerHi Chris! We're sorry to hear that. We have several more ways to access the credit union if you can't make it into one of our branches. We have text banking, online banking, a mobile app, and shared branching services. Please give us a call when you have some time at 763-315-3888. We'd love to explain how these services work. Thank you!

James Becker1The telephone menu system doesn't give an option to speak with someone unless your question falls into 4 or 5 specific categories. I have a simple question that would take a few seconds to answer but I don't see a way to ask the question.......
Response from the ownerHi James! If you press option number 1, it will lead you to Member Services. They'd be happy to help you with any questions you may have. Thank you!

Jose Ortiz1Very disappointed hot charge yo cajne one or the own checks and they tooked forever to do it, I won't ever come to this back ever again...

Colleen Gavin1Horrible policy on lien release especially when paid in full with guaranteed monies. 10 days is rediculous....
Response from the ownerIt is our policy that if you pay the fee with cash or money transferred directly from your account, we will release the lien immediately. Otherwise, a lien release will be sent in 10 days. This allows for the check to clear before we send it out.
