Not worth their fees. Don't waste your time. Plenty of credit unions. Closed this account after having them for a very long time. They don't care about you. They just raised their fees and that is why I am no longer apart of their savings account. And nor will I recommend them to anyone.

      Response from the owner

Barb in the Loan Department is amazing! She helped me refinance my Jeep, and beat the rate the other bank was offering. Great person to work with and extremely organized and takes great care of customers. Also everyone else I’ve dealt with has been great at Building Trades. I’ve had an account here for well over 10 yrs. First time working with Barb but I’ll definitely work with her in the future as well.

To begin, I have been banking with mbtfcu since I was a kid since my father had accounts here. Due to the convince of receiving a checking/saving account associated with zero fees I have remained a customer who was overall satisfied with mbtfcu. It has been a trustworthy credit union to take care of my banking needs. I myself am not someone who goes to the bank frequently because I do my banking online and with my mobile app. However, on the last visit to the Rice street location I was flabbergasted by the lack of service I received. I was going in to the bank with my boyfriend because he was getting numerous fraudulent transactions on his checking account and he needed to file claims and order a new debit card. Therefore, he and I took a seat directly in the chairs posted outside the banker offices. There was no sign in form or someone to greet us. We sat right outside the offices of two bankers and waited patiently. Both bankers were focused on their computers and on other matters so we waited. Not once did someone look in our direction directly outside the office nor ask if we needed assistance. After about 10/15 minutes waiting I decided to take it upon myself and call to file the 10+ fraudulent transactions on his account. While we were waiting and I was disputing these transactions over the phone, an hour passed. In this time one teller asked if we were waiting for a banker and we both clearly stated yes. Unfortunately that information was not passed along or the bankers discarded that information. As time passed being on the phone (being disconnected once), the one banker in her office directly in front of us came out and set the alarm to close business for the day. When I was finally off the phone it was already 5:15 p.m., that is when the banker decided to approach us and notify us the bank has been “Closed for 15 minutes”. She asked if we needed to see a teller even though we were sitting right outside the office. We stated “No, we need to see a banker” and that is when she finally asked what she could do for us. We stated we needed to order a new debit card because on the phone we were told twice to go to the nearest location and order a new debit card. Then her demeanor became somewhat annoyed because she told us “I don’t know why they keep sending people here. They disperse the debit cards in the mail automatically.” This has not been the only instance I have received lackluster customer service. Overall, I am highly disappointed in lack of attention and service I continuously receive at mbtfcu, especially because I myself work for another financial instruction, which strives to provide excellent customer service. I have been told by my employer why I do not chose to do my banking there. After all of the hassle to even receive assistance at my primary bank, it would be ludicrous to continue banking here.

Your branch is closed now in the south metro? First I was told it was because you didn’t have enough staff. Now it’s because someone had COVID. Aren’t you supposed to tell us? I was at your branch. No one was wearing masks or gloves. Now I have to worry about me and my family. You are being negligent. I’m better protected working in the trades. I’m contacting OSHA.

I've had these guys for over 20 years. They have been very good to work with and understand how a construction workers life goes. I even moved my mortgage over to them. Great rates and easy to work with.

not many locations, don't accept cards over the phone. Basically any kind of transaction that needs to happen you need to show up in person and like I said; 3 locations, very inconvenient.

      Response from the owner

Yes, Building Trades Credit Union has three Twin Cities branches - Maple Grove, Shoreview and Inver Grove Heights. We have more than 17,000 members throughout the Midwest and most do their banking without ever having to visit a branch. We have the latest technology that allows our members to deposit checks, get balances, transaction history, and transfer money between accounts instantly with their mobile phone. They can even make loan payments from another bank through mobile banking. To get cash or pay for purchases, most of our member use their debit cards. We do not allow members to make their loan payments with their credit card. If there is a transaction that you need to make, there may be another option. Just give us a call at 763-315-3888. We are here to help.
