  As I explained at the end of the meeting, I was blindsided by the bill. I did not have any tax forms including a W-2 or 1099 (with the exception of the 1099- T) and did not anticipate paying anywhere near the almost $500 bill I was presented with. In 2016, I used HR Block and my bill was just over $50. In 2017, my preparer had retired and I went with an individual CPA and paid $300. I thought this was steep and decided to return to HR Block. I was not informed of the fee structure or given an estimate. I have written to headquarters with my complaint in the hopes it will be addressed prior to sending my letter to the Better Business Bureau. I find the fee structure to be exorbitant and the fact that it is not disclosed to the client in advance abhorrent. It also speaks to HR Block's knowledge of their fee structure not being in line with the competitors. On the way out the door, I spotted the fee brochure and was told it was not available for clients. Bad business at best.

  Straightforward responses were readily to all of my questions and concerns. After discussing the options with my advisor I left with confidence in putting a financial plan in place to rectify shortfalls for next years taxes.

  I usually use the online portal to file taxes as my personal circumstances are not complicated. Your advisor who assisted me was completely incompetent. He was selecting incorrect items, placing information in incorrect fields which kept flagging errors and required my guidance and assistance on several occasions. Coming into this office was a complete waste of time and my money.

  We were very disappointed in our advisors professionalism, knowledge of tax code, and ability to answer our questions. He actually gave us advice that is against the tax code given our level of income. He was passionate about us depositing money into our IRA for further deductions however we do not qualify for this. Bottomline - I have no doubt he understands your software but he clearly doesn't understand the new tax code!

  The people that work there are nice; but the problem is when I was sitting down and waiting for the tax preparer that I was assigned to, I asked how much they charge. The lady up front said it really depends on how many forms they will submit for you; so there is no clear price list. It ended up that I paid $277 for the same service I can get for $150 or $50 for turbo tax. If I have known how much I was going to end up paying, I would have just not do it over there!!! I knew I was going to owe the IRS, but I thought that they could actually help me with my other issue. I don't think I am going back there again. We only submitted two forms -- one for the federal and the other was for the MD state tax. I think $277 was a bit much to pay.

  My return is rather simple and the cost to prepare it is to high. I'd be willing to pay around $200 for it, not $450. I could buy the premium tax package for $100 and even save more.
