I have been a member of this bank since childhood and have had nothing but positive experiences. Securing a car loan was a very transparent and efficient experience and came with a good interest rate. The interest rates for CD's and other saving accounts is frequently better than big banks, which is great. The customer service is knowledgeable, friendly and responsive.

      Response from the owner

Thanks for the kinds words, Juliane! We appreciate your membership over the years. If there is anything we can do, please let us know! Best, Colin ACU Communications

As a former Banker, I can recommend Arapahoe Credit Union as an excellent financial institution. ACU brings the personal relationship into banking that has and is missing in the banking world. Their staff is friendly and helpful and remember they are working for you because you are a member of the credit union not just a customer.

I looked into a few different options to refinance my car (terrible at first with other companies) and I had such a great experience with ACU. Tabitha was extremely helpful and on top of everything, I always got quick responses, and the whole process was very smooth. Plus, I got a pretty good rate and great incentives. I will definitely recommend ACU to anybody.

      Response from the owner

Thank you, Ricardo! I’m glad to hear that Tabitha and ACU were able to help your situation. If you ever need anything, please let us know! Best, Colin (ACU Communications)

They started charging our SAVINGS account a $10 FEE per month because they called it an inactive account. How IRONICAL that we put our money into their savings account for safe keeping.

      Response from the owner

Hi Larry, I apologize for the delay in my response. I wanted to research your situation so that I could be as thorough as possible. Let me start by addressing the fee and the reason you were charged. ACU is a not-for-profit institution and one that tries to keep costs as low as possible for our members. However, we do have to have to offset our operating costs where necessary to keep the credit union working for you. This fee is charged for several reasons including legal processes involved with dormant accounts and the escheatment process. It also works as a second flag to our members to let them know that their account is in an unused state. This one is particularly important because these accounts are the most susceptible to fraud. Of course, it is also a fee we don’t like to charge if we can avoid it. We always give advance notice to our members a month in advance of running into a dormant situation. A letter is always sent each month to ensure that our members know that they need to acknowledge the account and help us prevent the above noted issues. While I am not the absolute best representative to answer individual account questions, I am more than happy to get you responses to any concerns you might have. I can also put a member of the executive staff in touch with you if you prefer. If any of these options work, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Best, Sean M. ACU Communications.

Terrible experience. I would not give any stars to this company. They will treat you like you’re less than a human being and think they can talk to you however they want. Mike in particular was very unpleasant and yelling at me over the phone when all I wanted was some information about my account. He avoided every question I had Has had it out for my husband and I since day 1 all because we were unhappy that they were calling my work phone and had asked them not to call me at that number. Please avoid this bank and save yourself from scumbags like this because they are not there to help you!

      Response from the owner

Dear Ms. Sexton, I am sorry to hear about your experience at Arapahoe Credit Union. I would love to look into this more, but, unfortunately, I am not seeing an account for your name and cannot do the research needed to look into this further. Can I have a representative reach out to you for more information? Alternatively, you can reach out to me and my team directly. We will do absolutely anything we can and can be reached at [email protected]. Of course, ACU takes all reviews, positive and negative, and uses them to help improve. Regardless of the above, I assure you that this will be sent to Operations and Lending management for review. Best, Sean ACU Communications

I have been a member of Arapahoe Credit Union for many years. I have used several of their products and services including notary, share, investment fund, and CD accounts, as well as auto loans and share loans. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and able to resolve any issues that arise. For those who wish to avoid the impersonal big bank experience, give Arapahoe Credit Union a try.

I have been with Arapahoe Credit Union for many years. I have banked at other banks that are not credit unions while with ACU in the past and have not gotten the same customer service. The people at ACU are very polite, informative, and patient. ACU has the best customer service, interest rates are unbeatable, and best employees. I am a customer for life.

Disappointed in the tellers ability to problem solve something very simple. But more disappointed in the manager!

      Response from the owner

Hi Brooke, Please forgive the delayed response. I have been trying to research this issue with the managers to provide an accurate response. However, the closest account I can find hasn’t had noted contact since the beginning of March, so I do not believe I am on the right track. If you would allow it, I would like to have a member of executive management reach out to you about your issues. If this would be possible, please let me know. This sounds like, at the very least, an good place for us to improve our services. My team can be reached at [email protected]. Best, Sean Martin ACU Communications

I became a member of Arapahoe Credit Union when it was Arapahoe County Teachers Credit Union years ago. I received a loan to help finance my wedding and later a new car and share loans. I have had a share and a share draft account as well as IFA's and CD's. I have appreciated the friendly and competent service there. Currently I have transferred my savings to another Credit Union with more competitive deposit rates, but would return to ACU if rates become more favorable. I retain my share and checking accounts there and would recommend it.

I hadn't paid attention to this account and when I contacted the credit union to get info for taxes, i was told that i was charged around $580. for not updating my address when I moved 5 years ago. this is not taking into account the fees for some security charge. I expect that unlike a bank, MY credit union was looking out for my interests. I will take my money out today and notify Cherry creek Schools of the charges. I am outraged!

      Response from the owner

Dear Ms. Maloy, I am certainly sorry for your frustrations. At Arapahoe CU, however, every fee is in place for very specific reason (which I will come back to in a moment). Our intention is to meet a number of obligations between federal regulations, our membership as a whole, our operating costs, as well as our members on an individual basis. Moreover, I am sorry that we couldn’t find a solution, but our Operations Management attempted to refund nearly two years of these fees to you. This is already incredibly unusual and, unfortunately, we are limited beyond this point. Of course, while we believe that we have worked to find a solution for you, I don’t want to leave it at that. From a communications perspective, I want to make sure you know our reasoning. Our fees are truly a balance of the obligations I mentioned early. A bad address fee, for example has a number of purposes. We are obligated to maintain current member records and it is here where this particular fee is rooted. It is very difficult to actually motivate people to keep us updated. We add contact notes for our tellers to address whenever possible, but, in the end, the best way to reasonably communicate with individual people at the credit union is through account statements. A bad address fee is the flag for our members letting them know that we, by law, need an update. Arapahoe CU has a membership of over 10,000 people. Our members are a diverse group from the area and our communications often rely on the official documents that we send; we simply don’t have the staff to manage individual accounts on a members’ behalf. This is why we ask that members review their statements as often as necessary and certainly not less than once a year. As you noted, tax time is an incredibly convenient point to do this and is very typical for those that don’t use us on a daily basis. The best example I have for the need to review and manage an account on a regular basis is in the case of fraud. Law only allows the credit union to recover costs from fraudulent transactions if they are found within 60 days and there is no way for Arapahoe CU to determine fraud on our members’ behalf. This is just an example, I know, and not your situation, specifically, but it demonstrates well how not actively managing an account leads to problems (which, in turn, increases the cost for both members and the credit union). I understand that you didn’t opt for the solutions and refund our Operations staff offered and I am, personally, more limited to information. I also lack the space here to go into depth on each fee, our reasoning, and best practices to avoid them entirely. However, I would love to offer more support or explanations if I can. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I can be reached at [email protected] or my team may be more prompt at [email protected]. Best, Sean Arapahoe CU Communications
