M Sims5I worked with John Jenkins on my home purchase and refinancing. I obtained quotes from multiple banks and he was able to get me the best deal. He handled everything in a timely manner, from processing my application to clearing items with the title company. There was a quick turnaround once I got my documents to him. When the market changed he reached out to me to get me a better refinance rate. I highly recommend him and this bank.

Jack L. Jatzlau1I spent 2 1/2 hours trying to open up 2 new CD account here. This was because of a relatively new employee (five weeks) who had to get out an instruction manual, and an antiquated computer system that was difficult to navigate. Numerous telephone calls to other employees and questions for the branch manager didn't help get done. Nobody could figure out why the computer didn't do what it was supposed to be doing. Finally the dreaded "call to technical services" was placed which, of course, was not answered immediately. Then another employee came over to help and she couldn't get anything done either until she moved to a different computer - then things finally seemed to start working. In the middle of this I was ready to ask for my deposits back and go to another bank but since I had already started they couldn't do that either. So I was forced to wait. Then they told me that the interest on the CDs would have to be compounded back into the CD because they had NO WAY of sending a monthly check by mail or sending the interest electronically to my external checking account. So, in order to get my interest monthly (which is what I useto live on) I had to open up a new Merchantil checking account as well. Now the CD monthly interest will be sent to the new checking account and I will have to write a check on that account to transfer it to my normal checking account. I've had many CDs at many banks and never ran into this predicament. Obviously they want all of your money to be in their bank with these archaic rules. The employees apologized for the problems and delays, but the branch manager, who had answered many of the questions the employees had during the setup process never offered a word of apology or thanked me for being patient or for being a new customer. The paperwork generated by their computer system was also ridiculous. Hundreds of pages the fine print that nobody could understand in both English and Spanish. Most of this paper was just put in the trash. So, despite offering a good CD interest rate I would recommend going elsewhere. I have no confidence in this bank and expect to have many more problems with the new checking account, fees for it, and other problems with the CD in the future since it was so hard to set up. If I could give this bank a negative star rating I would.
