  My fiancé and I are first time home buyers and AJ and his team made the entire loan process easier than we anticipated. He is very knowledgeable and always quick to respond to all of our questions. We knew what to expect and when to expect it. He made sure our rate was locked from the start so there were no surprises and even assisted with getting us a grant to help with closing costs.   I bought a house but was shopping for the best rates so I contacted CMG Financial. I was approved by 3 other lenders (all of them non traditional as I'm a business owner and because of COVID we could not qualify for a traditional straightforward loan). When I spoke with AJ I told him that I needed a jumbo loan. However, if he had to take 2 years of tax returns then I would not qualify for any of his products (thanks to 2020). He assured me that they had a product that would allow me to qualify for a jumbo loan with only one year of tax returns and at a much lower interest rate. Naturally he couldn't guarantee that we would qualify because he needed to see our 2021 tax returns. So I continued working with him despite my hesitation and then 1.5 months later...I was approved. I was excited but couldn't get ahold of him to "lock it in". By the time I did the rate went up .125%. Awesome. I was frustrated but it was still lower than my non-traditional loan so I moved forward with the higher rate. I had a few clarifying questions (like is this a 30 year fixed, closing costs, what do we need to do to lock in the rate) but again I could not get a hold of him. I needed to have an answer on Feb 25, because if it wasn't going to work out with him I needed to give the other company, Luxury Mortgage (ask for Mike Raimi, he's awesome) 45 days to close. After he disappeared again, I set my alarm to start calling him every hour and then it was every 45 minutes. Then finally at 5:20pm on Feb 25th he called me back to tell me that I could not get qualified because the underwriter didn't realize it was a jumbo loan and they needed 2 years of tax returns so I wasn't going to qualify. On this call he said he was on vacation, something which was not communicated to me until the final call when I told him that I was stressed out about the lack of communication. Which if he was on vacation, then good for him. Everyone should vacation but again that should have been communicated to me to contact someone else in his office who could help me. I think we can all agree that we don't care if we talk to AJ or not. We just want a solid rate and someone whom we can call if we have questions or deadlines that we have to meet. He also might have been on vacation when I started talking to him 1.5 months ago and communication was just as spotty but who knows. There's a ton of options out there and buying a home is stressful enough without gambling on someone who didn't know their product and was challenging to communicate with.
