University of Michigan Credit Union Reviews

Andre Castro2Over all, it is probably one of the most inconvenient credit unions out there. The app is almost pointless, as you are always referred to the website to do anything past checking balances and in house transfers (at least for all first time set ups). If you need to transfer to an external account, go to the website. Need to set up a bill pay, go to the website. Need to manage a payee, go to the website. If you pay your bills with your debt card, it takes a few days to show up on your account as pending (making it easier to lose track and overdraft. As well, they have all of 4 buildings and no partnerships to retrieve physical cash (and take FOREVER to transfer between external accounts). If my wife didn't work for the U of M, I would NEVER pick this bank over more capable credit unions.

Hugh W1Bad experience years ago that I could not forget. I went to this place to do notarization twice. The first time was nice. Got it done quickly. The second time was frustrating. a different lady was apparently not trying to help. she question about all non-existing issues with the document, and finally told me that there was not space to stamp. i told her that i got one very similar document done before , but she did not try to listen. will never visit this place again.

R K3I've had a positive experience with this credit union, overall. They were the first to approve a line of credit for me when I initially established my credit. However, I will say that customer service could be improved in areas. I've also had to contact them a few times over the years for over draft charges that were illegitiment

Matt Leffler1Terrible experience . Wouldn’t let me refinance a car loan for my truck worrying I can’t pay when that is the only bill I have and make over $2500 a month and have over 750 credit score. $1950 a month left over should be enough for any unexpected expense. Seems like you have to make close to 6 figures to get approved. Also had to make all the calls even when they say they will call back.

Anqi Zhang3UMCU, yes, I am a UM student. 1. They will automatically deactivate your card in case of fraud. So you cannot use the card for swiping or shopping, but you can withdraw money, and use the online banking. You need to call them to activate the transaction so that you can use the card. 2. what ever transaction you make, it will show in your banking account a week later. I guess they update the account transaction info every week. You will not see on-time transaction details in the online banking page after you make payment or transfer in or other transactions. 3. If you want to withdraw some money from the UMCU ATM, your card will get swallowed. And they will not come to check the ATM until the next week. You have to go to Ann Arbor to get a new card if you live in Dearborn. Other that above, everything is pretty good.

Diana Voloshyna2We didn’t find bank there. Map points on parking lot
Response from the ownerHello Diana. Thank you for this feedback. We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused by the Google Maps pin. We have worked with a Google representative and adjusted the pin accordingly. Our branch is located inside the University Center next to the cashier’s office on U-M Dearborn’s campus. As an alternative to visiting a branch, we also offer self-service options such as online banking or the UMCU mobile app. Thank you again for your feedback.

Norris Neamou1The lady giving out auto loans is under qualified to be in her position. She knows nothing about auto loans. Whoever put her in charge must’ve did her a big favor. She verbally said my credit score out loud with 3-4 people around (within a few feet from us). Then she asked for my SSN out loud (vs writing it on paper, or sitting me down at a private desk). It felt as if i was in the environment of a retail clothing store ran by teenagers. I won’t even deposit one more dollar into this account after this awful experience.

Mohamad Alhindi1This has got to be one of the most unprofessional Credit unions / Banks I have come across. Went in for an Auto Loan and the teller that helped us was trying to recommend auto loans to us... Problem is later she admits that this is her first auto loan, she didn't know the difference between a cosigner and a co borrower for example. Then after recommending which loan to go with without even having any prior knowledge, she would give out personal information right in front of other customers, said Credit scores out loud, asked for Social security numbers out loud, like please those things need to be asked on a piece of paper. The guy in the office that was supposed to be helping doing sensitive information like this was just sitting there talking about the dangers of under age girls and White Claw the alcoholic drink...Go figure. My partner and I came in for auto loan for 10k dollars over 4 years, and us together making about 160k gross a year and about 115k after taxes, and couldn't get approved because this idiot of a teller signed us up for the wrong loan, thus pulling our credit twice for each person, and wrote up notes in the loan that she basically didn't believe what we were saying, we got profiled from a noob who hasn't done an auto loan before... I will not be visiting here again, and frankly taking my money out of the university of Michigan credit union for such a disrespectful and unprofessional piece of display.

Suzy Bender5I love the people that work at this location! They are always very helpful and have gone the extra mile for me on many occasions! I just wish there were a few designated parking spots for credit union members to use.
