Robert Rean1Opened a checking account and applied for a credit card. Using Equifax, they told me I did not qualify for an unsecured card, but instead they peddled me an secured card with a $300 limit, for the price of $450 "security." They said that, had my FICO score been 2 points higher, I could have qualified for unsecured Visa. So, six months later, with my credit score rising by more than 60 points, I applied for a credit line increase. It was denied and they told me that they typically wanted to see 12 months of payments before un-securing the the security initially provided or before they provide any increase to a line of credit. But that was NOT what I was told when the secured card was being pitched to me. At that time, Unitus told me that when my credit score rose to the score that they'd ordinarily issue a secured card to, that they'd AUTOMATICALLY release my $450 security! Bank of America gave me a $300 secured credit card for $300 security, and 8 months later they returned my security and lifted my credit line to $1000!!!! BESIDES THAT, the interest rate was much lower. Don't waste your time with these small local FAKE credit unions when they have big banks able to offer much better offers simply because they are so much bigger. Besides that, this pretend-"credit union" only has a few ATM's and their staff will lie to sell you on things. I do not recommend this business to anyone intending to rebuild their credit as I am.
Response from the ownerRobert. I understand you came into the branch today to close your account...thank you. Typically for these secured accounts you must have 12 months of payment history to help build your credit before a credit increase is available and it appears you were well below that. Just so you know, as a community credit union we have a responsibility to our members and therefore we have lending guidelines in place to make sure that we can keep our rates and fees low. Bank of America is a larger institution and is able to accommodate a different set of lending guidelines...you will see that in their higher interest rate and fees. Sorry we couldn't make things work out. Good luck to you building your credit. - Ryan J.

Johnathan Krug1This is a sister location to a CU I had in PA. Other locations allowed me to use my social instead of my member number to make a deposit. Was told I couldn’t but could use the atm as a deposit by the teller. Went to use the atm and it wouldn’t take my deposit because “they aren’t taking deposits”. Terrible service never using this CU.
Response from the ownerHi, Johnathan! I'm sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with Shared Branching. Due to increased fraud we are seeing, Unitus takes precautions to protect you and our membership. We understand the ATM was unfortunately and coincidentally out of service at the same moment and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. -Sam W

Farm Sachao1I went in to pay my credit card. She asked me how did I want to pay. I said well I do not want to pay any fees if possible, I can pay with debit or a check. She said you can use either one. So I thought using my debit card would be faster. Then she hands me my receipt and there was a 5.00 cash advance fee. I said to her that's what I was trying to avoid fees. She said sorry but we don't charge but maybe your bank does. That was it. I was like you do this everyday and you did not mention that to me. She said what's done is done.

Bayardo Reyes1Inconvenient. 9-5?? Seriously. Showed up at 5:01 PM and did not open the door. I got off of work early just to make it there before five to see if we could open an account since we closed our savings with onpoint and IQ, and since UNITUS is a shared branch it made more sense to have a unitus account. Oh well back to onpoint it is.
Response from the ownerHi, Bayardo! We’re so sorry this happened and totally understand your frustration. Some of our locations, like this one, are open on Saturdays to accommodate members who might not be able to see us during the week. If you’d like to make a Saturday appointment or even open your membership from home, visit our website at unitusccu.com. Better yet, if you'd like to DM me your contact information, I can put you in contact with the branch manager at this location to open your membership during the week after closing. We hope to see you soon! -Sam W

Slav S1Doesn't take 2 hours to signs 2 pieces of paper for an auto loan. Showed up on my lunch expecting a quick visit, leaving with the worst experience and treatment I've ever received from a financial institution. Definitely opening an account and getting a loan elsewhere if I need one in the future.
Response from the ownerHi Slavik. Sorry for the late response and we apologize for the misunderstanding regarding your auto loan documentation. Typically our policy it to collect all of the required information to finalize the loan before setting an appointment. That way once we have an appointment set, the preferred branch would have all of the documentation in place in order to minimize your wait. Unfortunately, is appears an appointment had not yet been set when you arrived and the branch was experiencing a staff shortage that day. We'd be happy to have a branch representative reach out to you to set up an appointment. Again, very sorry for the misunderstanding.

Joe O1Not good. Car loan from dealership. Misscommunicated insurance coverage. Doubled billed insurance at $1,100 for 10 days of coverage! Very impersonal policies. And unempowered staff to address reasonable concerns. Low end money lender hiding under 'community credit union' name. Paid off the loan and the automated loan fee of $1100 rather than deal with this mismanaged financial institution.
Response from the ownerHi Joe, so sorry to hear about your recent experience with auto insurance. We’d love the opportunity to discuss this further with you and gather more information to avoid these miscommunications from happening again. Please send us an email at [email protected] so that we can discuss further. Thank you for your time! Hope to hear from you soon. -Marissa F.
