UFCU Mortgage Services Reviews

Puneet Khatavkar5We had a really good experience buying our first house with UFCU in 2021. While another lender we were working with couldn’t get the appraisal done in time, UFCU stepped in and got the appraisal and helped us close within 30 days in this competitive market. Their agent was also really helpful in providing us customised per-approval letters for specific properties we were bidding on and we had to bid on 30 different houses in the competitive Austin market.

Kels Farmer1I've been a member of UFCU since my dad opened an account for me in the 1980s when I was 7. Their auto loans and banking are great, but the mortgage services have been a complete let down. I've tried to use them twice, locked rates, and proceeded until they put up a roadblock on my loan and rejected me AFTER charging me $850 for their appraiser. In addition to the wasted appraisal fees (I had to pay again with another mortgage company, they cannot be transferred), the lost time has cost me thousands because the time and effort delayed my loans and I ended up with a higher rate. The first time they didn't like the siding on a cottage built in 1938. The siding was original and part of the beauty of an old home. The second time they questioned if I lived in my own home. I would never do business that way.

Jeffrey Penkar1It is far too difficult to get in contact with UFCU. I just got a $500 bill from them. The wording on the mailer is too vague for me to blindly pay. They don't provide any url's or portals for reference. There is nothing on my online account that mentions a fee in that amount. I'm trying to call their help line, and I have spent actual hours on hold. Fix your customer service. If you can't do that maybe these bills should appear on the customer accounts on log in. If you can't do that. If you can't do that maybe you shouldn't have so many customer, and leave the excess business to organizations that are capable of this. EDIT: After getting through I was told to go ahead and disregard the bill. What?

DeNae Govea1My young son went in to get a loan and they gave him the wrong information and had us running around all over trying to get title transferred, basically we did their job for them and made us put them as a Lien holder and still won’t give him the money for the loan he was approved for. So now their going to receive my son’s truck title. I’m so beyond disgusted with this bank and their customer service.

Aubrey Morgan Lopez5I recently purchased a home and chose UFCU Mortgage Services as my lender because I have several other accounts with UFCU and have always been happy with their products and services. My loan officer was Michelle Higdon. Michelle was beyond fantastic. She made sure I was updated every step of the way and answered my questions quickly and thoroughly. While this process was stressful, I would hands-down recommend UFCU and Michelle any day.

Katelyn Hickman5My husband and I worked with Michelle Higdon at UFCU to purchase our home in Austin after relocating from Denver. Michelle was great to work with and even made time in her busy schedule to attend our closing! I was most impressed with Michelle's depth of knowledge and her commitment to customer service. Once we decided to place an offer, Michelle reached out to me while she was on vacation to ensure that we had all our questions and concerns addressed. She also took into account our looming rental deadline and helped us to close in 3 weeks instead of the standard 4 weeks. We plan to work with Michelle in the future for all of our mortgage needs.
Response from the ownerThank you for your review Katelyn! We will be sure to share this with Michelle and her team. We are so happy to hear we were able to assist you with your mortgage needs. Thank you for being our member!

John Woods4I love UFCU. Friendly, no frills Credit Union that does exactly what it says it will. The reason for the four stars- there online and mobile banking and apps need work. There have been multiple times over the years that I have been unable to connect with certain online services because of the technology limitations of UFCU. Most recently Chime.com and Crypto.com, and in the past Acorns and Qapital. Also there mobile application is pretty much unusable. I would really appreciate some updates in these areas moving forward because I really enjoy staying small and supporting credit unions rather than Big Banks. But I believe that is just the general trade off between supporting local versus big business.

Stephanie Heywood1Always had great experiences with this credit union until I tried to work with someone in their mortgage department. They told me I had to work with Cathy as she was the head of mortgage services there and how amazing she was! Being that UFCU has always been so great I was looking forward to speaking with her. She was so incredibly rude!! And told me in a very condescending way I’d better pay off Victoria’s Secret and Amazon if I wanted to get approved (I had just paid off two other cards without having told her specifics) I did make it clear from the beginning my plan was to use the funds to pay off all credit?! and she told me even if I did do that, there was no way I would have the funds in the next two months. So I went through Austin telco, and they basically approved me in a heart beat without making me feel judged or making Victoria’s Secret comments (yeah i admit I spend a couple hundred bucks there on credit) I’m going to close with atfcu in a couple Mondays and the funds will be available that Friday. Don’t go to Cathy, go to telco.

Kelsey Barrick2Super let down. Everything was going SO well with our mortgage loan process until the VERY end! The home we wanted to purchase oddly did not appraise by a drastic amount. Our realtor & the Sellers were pulling comps, asking realtors from recently sold properties, and did everything they possibly could to get an adjustment because it made no sense. The appraiser (Appraisal House USA) UFCU sent out refused to take anything in to consideration and wanted another $500 to send someone back out...which UFCU wouldn't approve us for anyway. We expressed extreme frustration to our lender because we were literally the perfect candidates for a loan with great credit & 20% down. But they put zero effort into helping us through this. Essentially we were told "it is what it is." We were so sure of this being a huge mistake, that we switched lenders (literally 5 days before closing). We got the same loan specs and it appraised for MORE than asking price. To top that, they closed for us on time. Very disappointed because we liked UFCU up until that point. They simply just did not get it done for us & it showed their lack of support for clients. Sometimes getting someone who works on commission gets you the hustle you need over salary comfortable employees. If we stuck with them, we would've been screwed out of a lot of money and given up our dream home. That sucks!
