Trustco Bank Reviews

Carol Iacocca1My husband and I went to the Union Street branch office to open a simple checking account, due to establishing duel residences in NY and Florida and had a less than positive experience. One month after signing the initial paperwork (apparently one form wasn't signed and we weren't notified until I followed up with them), we made individual trips to the bank to correct this issue during our work hours. Approximately one week later, we received a call to pick up our checks at the bank (because checks are mailed and they need to be signed for and we were on vacation) only to discover our street address & city (Schenectady) was spelled incorrectly. Sadly, we will not be using these checks and will be replacing them with checks we can get on line. Hopefully we will be able to continue business with Trustco without further mistakes once we independently solve these issues. Thank You Patience New Customers.
Response from the ownerCarol, providing excellent customer service is something that we strive for every day. We take all customer concerns seriously and will look into this for you. Please contact our customer service department at 800-670-3110 with any additional details. -KS

Brian David1Trustco, a shady bank. First off, their mortgages are very competitive. Rates are low and no PMI is a huge plus. But this bank is stuck in the late 90s and early 2000s as far as money accounts go. Their online banking system is archaic, slow and difficult to use. But the biggest issue is the shady fees and penalties with no warnings. Ive been with the bank for a decade with my mortgages. They've made a ton of interest off me in that time and thats fine. Recently however, without a warning, letter or email, and out of no where, they changed their checking account rules in so that you must have an average running balance of $500 a month or u get a 5 dollar fee tacked on per month. I rarely check my checking account because this account is strictly to deposit money for my auto pay mortgage each month. So I was angry when I realized how many fees accumulated over the months. They also refused to refund any of it. Thats not the worst part though. Recently I forgot to transfer the money from my tax savers to my checking to pay for my school taxes. I sent the check out to Colonie and Trustco let the check bounce 3 TIMES!!! Without a single letter, email or phone call. This racked up over a $100 worth of fees. It was a honest mistake from a long time customer and they refused to refund any of it. Super shady! Not to mention without warning, letter, or email, they opened up an overdraft account which created a HARD HIT on my credit without my consent prior to the bounced check. Even worse, the overdraft account didn’t even safe guard me from the bounced check. Unbelievable! Will almost certainly refinance my mortgage with some other bank soon. Trustco is the new Fee Bank and they show absolutely no loyalty, and refuse to help out their long time customers. Bait and switch shadiness!

Bruce Manti2I WENT TO DEPOSIT MY RENT CHECK INTO TRUSTCO ON UNION STREET IN SCHENECTADY. FOR OVER A YEAR I HAVE BEEN DEPOSITING IN EITHER HALFMOON OR CATSKILL. (BOTH LOCATIONS TREATED ME VERY GOOD) I WAS IN SCHENECTADY AND DECIDED TO DEPOSIT AT THE UNION STREET LOCATION. BAD MOVE!!! NUMBER 1 AT THE DRIVE THROUGH I COULD NOT HEAR WHAT THE TELLER WAS SAYING AND SHE MADE NO "ADJUSTMENT" ON HER SIDE SO I COULD HEAR. I ACTUALLY TURNED OFF MY RADIO, TURNED DOWN THE HEAT BLOWER AND FINALLY MY CAR TO HEAR HER. NUMBER 2 I WAS ASKED IF I WAS THE LANDLORD OR TENANT. I TOLD HER TENANT AND SHE SAID NOTHING. I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG AND SHE SAID NO. I SAW NO PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM DEPOSITING MY "CASH" CHECK ENDORSED FOR "DEPOSIT ONLY" IN THE PAST. HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THIS TREATMENT BUT KNOW I WILL NEVER GO TO THAT BANK AGAIN.
