Was very happy to spend half an hour here on my lunch break, making my first ever mortgage payment. However no one in the bank knew how to pay additional to principle, and they wanted to charge a fee because I didnt have a checking account with them. Said they would have to cash my check before making the payment. I work at a bank and I've never heard of such a thing. Heres to a great 29 years and 11 months with whatever this bank ends up being called in a few months. The confidence I have in my home loan being handled correctly is sky high!

Do not bank with BB&T. I have recently had issues with them. I've had them for almost 2 years and up until December I had no problems with them. I started receiving charges for negative balances in my account even though my account was showing I wasn't in the negative or i would deposit money and it would show up in my account, but somehow iIwould still receive a negative charge. I talked to several people about this problem and each time i was told a different thing. I was told "sometimes the app or online banking isn't accurate so you can call and check your balance" which I did and the automated system told me the same balance that was showing up in my app. I was told "it's how things are processed over night so you need to write down every transaction to keep track of your transactions" which i did yet still received a negative balance when I had calculated that my balance was fine. Then I was told that "it's how things post to your account so even if you deposited money and it's showing up in your account it's not really in your account." which makes no sense. None of my money was refunded except once because apparently BB&T is only allowed to refund you a fee ONCE in 24 months. Unless it's considered a banking error, which none of my problems were considered a banking error even though I was doing what I was told, but my account wasn't showing the proper balance or charges. I'm a college student that works part time and I can't afford to bank with BB&T that keeps putting my account in the negative and taking half of my paychecks. I called to say I was going to pay off my negative balance once I received my taxes and close the account and was told that they couldn't let me know exactly when it would hit my credit if I didn't pay it soon. So, I was told i just need to do it "soon." Which isn't helpful at all. They have no idea what they're doing. If you like to keep your money please don't bank with BB&T.

Customer service is not great. Regular banker-level employees aren't empowered to help solve problems, in fact the banker I spoke to initially had actually recently had her hands tied in regards to Customer service, management is inflexible and condescending, and policy is focused more on making sure that the bank has to refund the bare minimum ever, and is almost never on the side of the customer. Bank manager Mary is condescending, argumentative and refuses to entertain the possibility that bank policy is anything but infallible. I get the sense that when dealing with younger customers, she doesn't really do the benefit of the doubt thing that is so nice in customer service. She manages to contradict herself in the same sentence when dealing with customers relating their experience with the bank. Example: "I'm not calling you a liar, but what you are saying happened is not possible." Very condescending, even when not entirely correct on all points, doesn't hesitate to bash other banks, apparently would rather make other banks look bad than her bank look good. I've been with BB&T for several years, and will likely be switching to Wells Fargo due to a combination of BB&T policies and the customer service experience at this particular location.

Lived in Blacksburg and banked with them for two years but they are absolutely awful to deal with. Once my account is closed tomorrow I will neither do business or recommend anyone to them ever again.
