State Employees’ Credit Union Reviews

St B5Always clean areas (parking & throughout the inside), very welcoming once you step through the doors. Seem to have enough tellers to suit the time of day, haven't ever waited too long to conduct business. We enjoy banking here, especially since they've opened this new location a few years back.

Crystal Barnhardt1Went yesterday to get a paper with my information on it for my job so my checks would officially be direct deposit. Asked the woman if my husband brought my check up here after he got off work if I would have my check today!!! She told me yes! Wake up this morning and it hasn’t cleared to my bank! Called customer service and was informed I wouldn’t have my money until Tuesday! I was lied too and the woman looked and acted like she couldn’t stand her job. When I walked in I didn’t know where to go and nobody welcomed me or asked if I needed any help, had to figure that out on my on. I’ve been to a couple others State Employee and the one on Popular Tent isn’t in my liking. I live literally live right behind them and rather drive farther to another branch!

Shante Price1I’ve never been so displeased with a financial institution in my entire life. The only reason I actually have an account here is because my employer required it. Time after time they have failed with there customer service and willingness to make things convenient for the consumer. I work a 8-5 shift Mon-Fri and bank closes 5:30pm daily. I wanted to open and account for my son who took an Uber to the location that cost $15. I had to meet him there so he arrived at 5:20 and I arrived a few minutes later. The rep was going to assist him with the account until he advised he had to take cash off his prepaid card to fund the account. I was on the phone with my son and agreed to give him the cash. The bank would not let him come out to get the cash from me nor would they let me in to give it to him because it’s now 5:30. It’s pouring outside and we both work and this was the only day our schedule would allow. The bank is not open on Saturday so we couldn’t do it then. Why couldn’t the rep just took 5 extra minutes of his time to help?! I’m through with this place. I’ll keep my HSA here because I have to but I need to find an financial institution that actually accommodates their customers!

Amy Smith5For two years SECU has helped me with a mess of issues. I travel for work, my IDs are rarely up to date, I often have out of state paper checks and on and on. Every time I have an "issue", the tellers are so nice. They are knowledgeable and know policy so they can help me, or help me help myself. Things were so hectic during covid and getting documents, they always helped. Never made me feel as stupid (as I was) or problematic. I made a mistake using a diff prominent cu for my primary monies. SECU even helped me fix the errors THAT other place caused. Being new to Charlotte, I opened 3 bank accounts. You never know a good bank until you've had quirky situations. I've been able to see firsthand how SECU is superior to the others I'm now closing. I referred nearly all my coworkers. Many got better home and auto rates and even tell me abt benefits I didn't know of. I'd just like to share this is a good place... no glitz and big commercials or "stadiums", but professional, reliable and accurate in accounting... employees are kind. Who gets that anymore?

TuxedoKat Imaginarium5We love this bank! The people are friendly and make me feel well taken care of. The drive through is always fast. If you are fortunate to be able to bank here, you will join a fantastic club of excellent rates and free pens. All the free pens. Don’t be too greedy with the pens. Have a great day!

Rachel S1Just really bad communication and service. Didn't communicate that they were running behind on their end when it came to closing on our house. So now we cannot get into our home and have to rearrange moving plans, because they are apparently running behind and decided not to let us know. The law office we did closing with said that this has been a problem with them lately. Take this as a warning!!!!

small small1I had to deposit a check from my insurance company that had to be endorsed by myself and the collision company. I signed and collision company stamped the check, so Lisa said that was not good enough they needed a signature. Didn't know companies signed checks, so i had to drive 45 mins away to get the collision company to sign the check. I went back to the bank with the check signed and they asked if that was the collision company signature.... Really?

Latoya Henry5My husband and I have dealth with many SECU within the past six months, just in different locations and because of the exprience with each one (horrible) you would think that they are all the same. I can attest today that is not true and neither is it far to make such a statement. The SECU on Popalar Tent Rd in Concord, NC is the most amazing, helpful, knowledgeable, patient, hard working staff. Our go to Loan Officer was Brenda Asbury, and Brenda I have only one thing to say to you, THANK YOU for listening, you gaved us the best customer service their is.........Thanks again for all you did
