I have been with Spire nearly 4 years and I have NEVER been with a finance institution so unwilling to help me as a member. I’ve applied for loans (consolidated, auto, home, personal) for reasons that change each time as I’ve fixed the reasons of previous denials! This includes a loan to fix the damaged THEY caused by not reinstating my bill pay I had to call them, after my score dropped 105 points! STILL I got my score back up but I drive for a living and got into an accident WITHOUT any income I knew that soon my account would go negative so I applied for a loan AGAIN, this time not enough time as being self employed so I called and corrected that I’ve been self employed over 5 years, STILL A NO! As I thought would happen my bill pay is suspended because my account is negative! Spire CLAIMS to be there for their members but I’ve even referred my mom and son, and they TOO have had resistance from Spire!

I experienced the worst issues ever trying to establish new services at this branch . I hope I never have to cross their path again the worst customer service I have ever experience came down to this bank twice to set up a account and basically have been turned away not to mention due to gas prices it’s very upsetting that the people who work for this company doesn’t want to be accommodating to the public to bring business or get business I gave them less than one star on there lack of sympathy or willingness to be for the community

      Response from the owner

Jasonia: We apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced. The SPIRE Edgar Archer Administrative Offices in Falcon Heights do not provide branch services as it is SPIRE's administrative building. However, SPIRE Roseville (1880 Perimeter Drive, Roseville, MN 55113) is only a few minutes away and provides full branch services, such as opening a new account. We recommend setting up an appointment prior to arriving by going to https://myspire.as.me/roseville. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to serving you!

Example 1: (December 2020) I asked to close my business account. They sent a form filled in with my personal account information. Example 2: (December 2020) I corrected the form they sent me, but they sent me a different form, filled in with God-knows-who's phone number. Example 3: (Autumn 2020) A business account cannot (or could not) have Bill Pay without signing up and paying a fee. I did not sign up and paid no fee. Without notification, Spire changed one of my long-established personal Bill Pay payments to a business Bill Pay (this should not have been possible). Further, without notification nor permission, they used my personal account bounce prevention loan to cover this erroneous business payment. This caused a cascade of overdrafts. Spire telephone supports response, "We've been having trouble with Bill Pay." (An older person (there seem to be few of them) whom I had met at Spire refunded the Spire NSF fees, but not the Amex and other NSF fees.) Example 4: (Autumn 2016) Spire absorbs my Ecolab account and promptly starts paying my auto loan from the wrong account. There are other examples, but none as blatant or glaring as the above. I have met many wonderful people at Spire, but I need a financial institution that is, relatively speaking, mistake-free. Dependable. Spire has proven to be neither.

I have been a SPIRE member for 15 years and an employee for 6 years. Ever since my very first experience with SPIRE back when it was Twin Cities Co-Op I have always felt that they are different then the "big banks". I had a few issues with a large bank 15 years ago and TCU was the ONLY bank that would open an account for me. That has always stuck with me as they took a chance and allowed me to open a savings account, then a checking account which was so helpful as I did not have a bank to deposit my paychecks. Flash forward to today, and I know why I was treated like I was so long ago. SPIRE truly CARES about our members and their financial well being. We will help whenever possible to make sure our members are financially prepared for life, even if it is something as seemingly small as a savings account.

I am very disappointed today that Spire did not cover my rent check for my business because it would have overdrawn my account slightly over one dollar. This was due to an autopayment that was deducted, even though that charge was supposed to have been canceled. When I spoke to Spire about this, and the $33 charge, they informed me that it would not have happened on my personal account, but they don't treat business accounts the same. They actually informed me that they do not care about business accounts. Really? That makes me feel very secure as a business customer. I have for the most part had pretty good experiences with Spire, although, they are not the most convenient bank I have ever used. Unfortunately, this one experience, makes it very difficult to trust or respect them at all. I suggest to business owners, not to use Spire when this is the attitude they have toward your business and I will not be using my business account any longer. This will simply be where I funnel the cash from Paypal, and nothing more. I will also be searching for a new bank because if this is the attitude of Spire to my business, it is also their attitude towards me personally. My business is very personal to me and much more harmful to my reputation than having overdrafts on my personal account. I could care less, to be honest. An attack on my business is an attack on me. Not caring about my business is also not caring about me personally. Spire does not always give the correct information to their banking customers. This I have experienced before. I do not trust them and now never will trust them. I certainly hope that Spire is bought out or merges with another institution becasue they do not live up to what they say they will do for you. I don't expect much from a bank, but I do expect equal protection on my accounts, whether they are business, or personal. I think the same treatment on both is to be expected, but today, they informed me that they are not a business bank. Therefore, businesses should look elsewhere for a financial instsutiton.

After many years of just being a number at a megabank, I moved my checking to Spire. Then got my vehicle loans there and a credit card. I can't say enough of how they have treated me well and helped my credit rating. Even my car warranty was upgraded from the one I was about to purchase from the manufacture. I wish I had done this years ago.
