Jenny Valladares1Would stay away from any private loan through them. I have been paying this loan off since 2007. I have about 3k left and after some serious income change but they are 0% willing to settle or assist in making the payments more affordable. My loan amount is not enough to refinance through another company. I’m more than aware I have paid at least 3x the amount of the original loan. Absolutely the most money hungry company ready to take absolute advantage of people. It’s a shame that a company so big receiving so much money every day from new students is unwilling to help those that have paid well over the amount of their original loans Called on 5/13/22 and was transferred to Ray Jones, VP of Loan Programs, who responds to all of these negative reviews, but when I called in to speak to him he was very quick to state that he gets hundreds of calls like mine a day and hung the phone up on me.
Response from the ownerGood morning, Ms Valladares. I believe in 2007 our repayment term would have been for 10 or 15 years, depending on the balance entering repayment. We do offer temporary assistance in payment postponement for someone having difficulty repaying. Obviously, there are limits to that offering. I would be more than happy to review your loan term and payment history as well as your eligibility to temporarily postpone your payment for you. Please contact our office directly and my team will be happy to get your account to me for review. ~Ray Jones, VP of Loan Programs

D'Hannah1An absolute disaster. Getting a loan from them was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. Their website is barely functional, and even during a pandemic, despite telling me I would have a grace period post grad, I've been charged hundreds of extra dollars. I've been differed for months about this issue and still haven't been able to have this corrected. I always got my loan money late and it was always less than I needed for no reason. Get your loan money somewhere else.
Response from the ownerD'Hannah, Our loan offers a six month grace period after enrollment and we disburse what either you or the school requests. We do not reduce loan amounts. The school also provides the disbursement date, not SC Student Loan. I'd be happy to take a look at your account for you if you like. ~ Ray Jones, VP of Loan Programs, 803.612.5062

Mikayla Moua4I usually have great customer service. Mike was very helpful as was another employee (Linda maybe?). I am in the 5th year of repaying my teacher loan. I feel like there could be a much more efficient way of completing the beginning of the year paperwork (what teacher at the beginning of the year isn't so busy they forget things?) so that late fees aren't accrued. The borrower receives paperwork that has to be submitted to the district office, then they have to get that paperwork back and submit is to SCSLC who then forwards it to Firstmark. It's 2020. I genuinely believe this could be handled electronically.

Francisca Oladipo5With the assistance of South Carolina Student Loan I am able to continue with my college education. The terms of payment are great and less stressful. It feels more like paying out of my pocket. No pressure, no burden. Thank you South Carolina Student loan for coming to my aide when I most needed it.
Response from the ownerThank you for the kind words, Francisca. We are glad to help you reach your educational goals. We know student loans can be tough, and we never promote over-borrowing, but we do believe that education is an important investment and are glad to help when needed. Thanks again.

Sarah F.5I can’t believe the negative comments and low rating for SCSL!! As a matter of fact, just today I spoke with an SCSL representative (Tom) and I told him that they are my favorite student loan company to work with because they are the easiest. Over the years I have had to request a few forbearance periods due to struggling to make student loan payments. SCSL has always listened to what I’ve had to say and never ever had made me feel bad for struggling and never had made me jump through hoops to get there. They are super personable and easy to reach. For all of those negative nancies with their panties in a twist, I suggest working with huge companies such as Wells Fargo student loans or AES, Chase, you name it. Those companies belittle you and your situation and have no heart at all. And, on top of that it takes forever to just get through to a representative. SCSL- you have my deepest thanks for making it easier to pay back student loans. Because let’s face it, paying back student loans is no cup of tea! But certainly, SCSL, you make it beyond bearable!!!
Response from the ownerSarah, thank you for the wonderful comments. I am glad that we were able to help. There are certainly times that our borrowers may not get the outcome they hope for, but we do try our best to provide superior customer service and a level of understanding to everyone that looks to us for help. Thanks again!

Rachel Watts5Tammie from the SLC is the best. I had an issue with the financial aid office at usc and Tammie reached out to them and got my issue solved. She helped me with a lot of headache because no one from the financial aid office helped me at all and she went out of her way to get them to find my application! Thanks Tammie!
Response from the ownerThanks for the review Rachel!

Tameka Gunn1I would not recommend students take loans from SC SLC. They don't offer public service forgiveness programs, except for teachers AND the loans are not DIRECT SUB and UNSUB loans therefore not eligible for forgiveness under current programs. Borrow directly from the US Dept of Education.
Response from the ownerNicole, Thank you for your Google review of SC Student Loan. Actually, we do agree with you concerning borrowers who may be eligible for future loan forgiveness. While we can no longer participate in the federal loan programs, we do still follow the federal requirements for those loans we processed in the past. Also, for the private loan we offer, we make every effort to inform borrowers to seek federal loan funding first. We also try our best to include verbiage that informs a borrower of their rights and responsibilities, as well as ensuring you understand that the private loan must be repaid. Should you have specific questions concerning an account with our office, please contact us directly at (800)347-2752. Again, thank you and have a great Monday.

Jeri Gonwa5Wonderful experience, if borrowing money can be so. Lol, best rates, easy to work with, answered all our questions and made sending our son to college affordable. Can't say enough about them.
Response from the ownerThanks again, Jeri! We really appreciate that you considered us when applying for a loan.

Sandy Page1Their repayment options are unreasonable and will leave you with a bleak future. Avoid borrowing from this company if at all possible.
Response from the ownerSandy, while we try to make our repayment options very clear when borrowers apply for the loan, we certainly understand that a borrower may have difficulty at some point with a payment being due. I would be happy to discuss your situation further and see if I can be of any help. Ray Jones VP of Loan Programs (803)612-5062

Antoinette Johnson1SCSLC JUST BASICALLY FIRED 40 EMPLOYEES. THEY HAVE NOT ONLY OUTSOURCED THE FEDERAL LOANS TO NELNET, BUT NOW OUR PRIVATE LOANS ARE BEING SENT OUT AS WELL. GOOD PEOPLE ARE NOW WITHOUT JOBS BECAUSE THESE BLOOD SUCKERS ARE HEARTLESS AND CHEAP JERKS. EITHER WAY BARB AND RAY JONES GAVE ME HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WAS OFFERED A SETTLEMENT FOR MY LOANS BY ONE OF THEIR EMPLOYEES THEY SCREWED OVER, AND THEY REFUSE TO HONOR IT. BARB ACKNOWLEDGED THE AGREEMENT AND THEN RENEGED AFTER I CALLED HER AND TOLD HER I CAME UP WITH MOST OF THE MONEY. SHE THEN HAS RAY CALL ME BACK DAYS LATER TO WASTE MY TIME AND BASICALLY SAY SCREW YOU WE DO WHAT WE WANT. WE WON'T BE HONORING OUR WORD. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED AND THEY REFUSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING. I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A PLAN OF RECOURSE AND WILL PURSUE THIS TO WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS. IT'S BAD ENOUGH STUDENT LOANS ARE THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. NOW THEY HAVE A NAME AND FACE. UGH. THEY WILL PROBABLY SAY THEY SENT CORRESPONDENCE IN REFERENCE TO MY LOANS PRIOR BUT THAT IS A LIE. NEVER RECEIVED DIDDLY!! THANKS FOR GETTING MY HOPES UP AND BEING A SCAMMER! I WAS TOLD I HAD UNTIL MY LOANS WERE OUTSOURCED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SETTLEMENT, AND THEY WERE STILL THERE. SO STOP LYING. PULL YOUR CALLS!!
Response from the ownerMs. Johnson, We regret that you are not satisfied with the resolution of your account with us but we pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service. We do want to clarify that you were offered a settlement, as you indicated, but there were several deadlines associated with this offer that were not met and therefore the offer expired. In an effort to protect your privacy, we will not discuss the details of your situation but if you would like to discuss further please feel free to contact us at 803-798-0916 or toll free at 800-347-2752. To address your comment regarding our having outsourced the servicing of our loans, you may not be aware that the Federal government nationalized the federal student loan program in 2010. As a result, our portfolio of loans has declined substantially since that time eliminating the efficiencies of our operation that led to the difficult decision to transfer servicing. We continue to offer competitive private student loans for students to attend higher education and refinance their existing student loans. Again, please feel free to contact us regarding your situation.
