Clean facility , very kind people , safe range. Accommodates rifle, shotgun, and pistol. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice everything and everyone was there. Only minor complaint would be they close early if its showering/raining. If you’re in the area I’d check it out and have a blast!

Very nice facility. This is a large range with two pistol ranges and a rifle range out to 100 yards. Very nice staff. RSO's are extremely helpful and friendly. This range is run by an all volunteer staff. They are closed on Mondays for maintenance. Range is very well kept. They also have Skeet and Trap on Sundays & Wednesdays. There are manual throwers available at all times.

      Response from the owner

      Thank you for the review.

Went there on a Wednesday to do some skeet shooting. Website said they did that on Wednesdays. Got there at 2 and they said they had already packed everything up. Nowhere on the site did they mention their skeet range closed before normal hours. It does however say that they have personal mechanical throwers you can rent any time. But when I told them I brought a shotgun they just said everything was packed up. It's not like I showed up at the last minute. 3 hours till closing time.

The staff was very friendly, starting with accurate and easy to follow driving directions, a few easy to follow common-sense rules (present at most outdoor shooting ranges), and policies for children. I've shot at a variety of outdoor ranges: City Police, State Wildlife Preserves, Outdoor Gun Clubs, etc., and the Outer Banks Gun Club is very well equipped. True, outdoor gun ranges, are not set up to be like your hotel/resort concierge...They expect one to conduct oneself with politeness and common-sense, as we all should have been taught in kindergarden. They do sell targets, however they don't sell ammo or rent guns (again, like most outdoor ranges, one has to have both a gun and the appropriate ammo). Kudos to the Outer Banks Gun Club for having a spacious, courteous, and well-run shooting range, that I will enjoy returning to year after year with my family and friends! Thank you.

I drove more than an hour to get to this range, paid my range fee and watched their promo/safety video and proceeded to the range to find myself underwhelmed. The range is a run of the mill outdoor range with covered shooting and the facility in general is of average quality. The reason I am only giving 2 stars is because I had a well below subpar experience after being told I could not stand and shoot my firearm...I have never been to a range whare standing and shooting was a problem, more so if they didn't want people standing and shooting they should have put it in the video or posted on the range somewhare...it just seemed as though the range master was making stuff up...also the whole time I was being told I couldn't stand the young man at the table next to me was handling his firearm in a very un safe manner and with out ear or eye protection...but my standing was a problem...long story short...there are better more friendly ranges to go to...c2 in chesapeake and colonial shooting academy just to name a few.

We went to this range with 4 of us. We just wanted to shoot a few of our handguns to have some fun while on vacation. There was an old man I think they called "The Colonel" there who I think was trying to give a class to some other lady. While we were there, minding our own business, doing nothing unsafe (Retired Army Captain with us mind you) he decided it would be not only ok to come over to us and try to "teach us" but handle our guns without our permission. While discussing safety, he had a LOADED .380 in his hand with his FINGER ON THE TRIGGER POINTING IT AT A FEW OF US. All while saying why it was only safe if you keep your finger off the trigger unless ready to fire.... When asked why he thought it was ok that he was doing the very opposite - answer "He has experience and it's ok"... Sorry folks, NEVER point a unloaded gun let alone a LOADED gun at someone no matter how experienced you are. This "expert" made us nervous for our safety, irritated us with is unwarranted interjection of his "opinions and teachings". We fired off what was loaded and left. When asked who he was at the main house where you pay, pick up supplies etc, they said oh that's just "The Colonel". He's here to teach classes etc. We expressed our disappointment and left. That was the last we dealt with this place despite being in the area multiple times a year. My advice - if he's not there - its a basic range, with basic amenities like a covered place to put your guns down on a table, go stand out in a field and shoot. Fair at best. If that man is there - DO NOT SHOOT THAT DAY. Come back when he's not there.

Worst experience I've ever had. Called yesterday, was told the range was open, arrived at 0900, range is closed. Avoid at all cost.

      Response from the owner

Sorry you came to the range and it was closed. We are closed every Monday and we will close due to weather. We are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We hope you will try us out again.

A simple inexpensive place to shoot. We're from out of town, but wanted to shoot or guns while we were on vacation. We enjoyed ourselves and had a safe, fun time.

Safe range, nice people and a reasonable price for an afternoon of shooting. Will visit again next time I’m in OBX.
