Avoid this untrustworthy bank. I was a former Amtrust customer since around 2007. After Amtrust got merged into NYCB, they changed the terms of my savings account to add a minimum balance. Before I noticed, they had charged me over $300 in service charges -- almost the whole balance of my account! An awful customer service experience followed. Their representatives had no autonomy to do anything, and basically refused to help in any way. Instead, I was repeatedly told that all interaction had to be done through "secure messages" on their web site. These messages would go unanswered for weeks. And instead of an apology and a quick fix, they quibbled over the amount and ultimately only some of the fees. In short: they took my money and totally stonewalled me instead of trying to help at all. I'll never do business with them again and suggest you do the same!
