Alexander Sage1I’m going in tomorrow to close my account for good. My father suggested that I come here to help build my credit since I am a college student with no credit and not a lot of funding to help build it. I didn’t want to commit to a credit card right away so North island set me up with a DEBIT card account with the “courtesy option” OFF. (The courtesy option means that the bank will let you go negative) — I have went in FOUR times within the past year because my account goes negative and I am charged ridiculous overdraft feeds even though that 1. I am on a DEBIT card plan and 2. I have the courtesy option turned OFF (obviously not). A few items they have even charged me the $27 fee even tho I had money in the account!!! I once had $12 in my account and spend $9. They rejected it, charged me a $27 rejection fee which caused me to go to a negative balance. And then they charged me ANOTHER $27 overdraft fee for being negative!! It’s not even that they charge overdraft fees because i get that the bank is covering you & that’s how they make their money. But I once had 3 pending charges come out AT ONCE and they separated them and charged me a $27 for each individual payment instead of just once. Money hungry and leech you for every dollar you have. NOT A GOOD BANK FOR YOUNG ADULTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING COLLEGE STUDENTS! They’ll charge you whatever they want and don’t even care to fix it when you come in to talk to them about these issues. I’ve given them so much money over the year I’ve banked with them and it’s not worth it. I can to let imagine how much money I would lose on an actual credit card rather than debit. I am going back to chase bank & continuing to pay the $12 monthly fee. (The ONLY a thing good about north island is that they didn’t charge a money fee but they sure do know how to rob you for your money) At least I know my money is safe there! If I don’t have the funds on my DEBIT account then it declines the charge instantly and doesn’t leave me struggling to pay the constant overdraft fees. I
