  I refinance my home and it went to Neighborhood mortgage. I completed paperwork and submitted it to have payments automatically withdrawn from my account every month so I wouldn't have to worry about ever being late with any payments. Two months later when I was reviewing my checking account I noticed that no payments had been pulled for my mortgage. I immediately went to the credit union and made the payment for the previous month and the current month since they had failed to do the auto debit as I had arranged. Next thing I know I have a 30-day late payment showing on my credit report because of this! I called neighborhood mortgage immediately and they admitted that they had failed to take the money for the payment out of my account as we had arranged, but refused to do anything about removing this from my credit report even though it was their fault. After several phone calls to them and speaking with several different people, including management, I finally gave up.

  Well, I had no problems with them for the duration of our mortgage. But we paid it off the other day and I was surprised to see they took out another payment, even thought the balance was zero. This could have been an honest mistake, but you can bet I'm calling them and demanding that money back! It does show some sloppiness in their bookkeeping.
