Mountain America Credit Union Reviews

Kathryn Zaborski1I've been with this credit union for several yrs. Never had any problems until about 6 months ago. In fact I have referred my friends & some family members. However, because of the unprofessional ways in which I have been treated lately, I can't say that I would refer anyone anymore. Every time I walk in, I'm waited on by a new teller. Never the same teller, except for 2 that have been there for some time. The newbies don't seem to know what they are doing. I've been in corporate Banking myself & at various times I have had to actually "teach" them how I would like my accounts handled. It wastes a lot of my time & those standing behind me. This particular branch has changed managers & I can honestly say I've NEVER seen the new managers face. Before managers were changed, I would walk in & immediately feel welcome by everyone, Jacquell, Kim, Terri Hunt & especially Stephanie White. She was excellent at greeting everyone & making us feel special to be a member of MACU. If I had a problem or a quick question it was taken care of immediately AND with smiles of concern. The atmosphere has drastically changed & is depressing except for a few employees whom I will wait patiently for instead of new personnel. I have accounts at another bank & I'm truly considering of moving all my business to them.

Melissa K5My fav bank ever. I’ve been banking here since I came to Utah many years ago. They’re very personable, I love that if I need a card replacement I can do it at the local branch and they really take care of you if you have a problem. I do a ton of online shopping and it’s nice to have a financial institution that has your back
Response from the ownerThanks so much for your glowing review Melissa! We’re happy to hear that your experience with us has been so positive. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to our Sunset Boulevard Branch!

Morgan Bailey1I banked with mountain America because of the great service I received from Brayden Gines. I was able to get a better rate on my car loan as well save a few extra bucks in other places. He was a great help, knew what he was talking about, and had been with the company for over 5 years. It was very sad to hear that he was let go, because he had to attend a family emergency. I will now be closing my accounts, because I won't support a business who won't support their staff in a time of need.
Response from the ownerWe're sorry to hear that you feel this way Morgan. We always strive to support our employees and work with them whenever possible because they are what make us special. While specific instances are confidential, if you do have any other questions or concerns in the future, feel free to email us at [email protected] and we'd be happy to help clear things up. Wherever your path leads you, we wish you the best and hope to be able to help you in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

Brady M1I'm so frustrated right now with Mountain America. This is the only way I feel like I can get a response from someone that cares about my business. My issue is that at some point in the past year Mountain America has started charging overdraft fees on transactions considered authorizations or temporary holds on funds, rather than cleared funds. I got charged $20 as an overdraft fee but my balance never fell below 0 and they didn't have to pay a merchant, as my money cleared the transfer fully. This is either a mistake or they are just getting greedier. I guess someone has to pay for these big nice new upgrades they are doing!!
Response from the ownerBrady, I am sorry about the experience with fees you have been having with us. I want to send your information to management to try and fix this. Would you mind emailing us at [email protected] with your name, email, address, and phone number? I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

kathy killian-harmon4I mostly worked with Steve. He was able to provide me with a loan but it was short $5,000.00 of what I needed. 45 minutes had passed after I was finished talking with him and he called me back telling me that he would lend me the extra $5,000.00 of what I needed. The money was for dental work. He was very supportive and kind. At one point I spoke with a girl when Steve was out of the office. She was very rude and unprofessional. If I had only spoken with her I would not have pursued my loan. I don't care how much they would have given me. She would have lost all of my business including my checking and saving account. I'm glad I spoke with Steve and that he handled my account.

Wade1The staff of this branch are less than kind, and are less than accommodating. They treat customers like they are idiots and make it so they don’t feel comfortable asking questions so they can understand more of what they need to do for loans and other banking needs... im very upset with this branch.... My fiancé was trying so hard to get some banking needs under control and the staff treated her like she was beneath them and acted like she was an idiot.... all around just a terrible branch or at least the few staff members which myself and my fiancé have dealt with!

jj hathaway1Worst banking experiences ever. From day one this bank has done everything in its power to mess up my wifes account, credit and life. Have been in their office several times over the past two years to try to correct their stupid, and I believe now purposeful mistakes... because the same things keep happening over and over and over and over despite our best efforts to stop them. You would be a fool to trust your credit and money with any part of their poor excuse for a "credit union" that does everything in their power to ruin your credit. "Mountain America Credit Ruin" would be a better name for this scam of a business. Dont believe me?? Check out all the class action suits filed against them for deceptive practices... which is what they've been pulling on us for over two years since getting a car loan from them. First they took their sweet time ( 4 months ) to get the paperwork to the DMV causing us to have to pay $10 extension fees each time... then we had set up our auto-pay to come out on the 15th, but they would take it off auto-pay and change it back to the 1st... doing so without our permission and unknown to us, creating late fees and credit score dings... with the last straw being because of that deceptive practice they have sent my wifes car loan over to collections because she keeps missing her payments ... duh... the scam continues. Take your money elsewhere or this will be you writing about your horror story and your ruined credit by this credit union from hell.

Kylie King fka Gelber1I used to love MACU, but lately I have been extremely unsatisfied. I used to think MACU was friendly, helpful, safe. Now the words I use to describe MACU are unprofessional, unorganized, and unhelpful. I have lived out of MACU territory for almost 2 years, which has not been a problem until now. I recently got married and needed to add my husband to my account. When I called to do so, the associate groaned saying it was a long process and I should be getting something in the mail. It was an unpleasant phone call. I waited 2 months....and received nothing. After relentless calling, being put on hold for long periods of time, FINALLY someone called back to add my husband to my account. The whole process took about 10 minutes, not strenuous AT ALL. Then, they said I should receive a debit card for him. A week and a half passed and we didn't receive anything. I happened to be near a MACU branch, visiting family, and decided to drop in to get the debit card once and for all. I have had a card printed in a branch before, typically takes 5 minutes. I came in and explained to the teller my frustrations in adding my husband to my account and that I needed a debit card for him. She did not have professional body language, slumped and barley making eye contact. She said one was in the mail (which is still nowhere to be found), but that she could cancel it and print a new one. GREAT! The computer wasn't working, so she called her boss over, who unprofessionally leaned over his female associate to see her computer. He somehow fixed the issue, without acknowledging my presence. She requested I sit down to wait for the card. While I sat there, I became very impatient as the tellers laughed and talked amongst themselves behind the counter. 10 minutes later, I requested someone check on the status of my card. Sure enough, it had been sitting on the printer. 3 months later, my husband can actually access my account! Come to find out, they charged me a "re-issuance" fee! I once again had to call, be put on hold, to see there were computer issues again. The staff member said, "I should be able to waive this re-issuance fee, but my computer isn't working. Call back in a few days if you don't see the credit on your account." While I appreciated not being left on hold, I do not feel this issue was resolved. The associate should reach out to ME to let me know my issue is resolved. There is no sense of proactivity. I am not sure what has changed at MACU this last year, but it is really making me question my bank of choice.
