Mountain America Credit Union Reviews

Sara Haderlie1Tried calling my local branch several times because I needed to see if the coin machine was working because it seems to be broke down most of the time nobody answered my calls. I have money pulling from my account and needed to deposit change. But surprise surprise the machine was broken once again and they said they were unable to take my change. So now I can’t even deposit the money I need to. This is a bank right?? Can’t deposit my money??

Sarah Goodman5My fiance and I are so happy to have chosen a credit union that is so friendly and helpful for our first joint account and credit card. Braiden also guided me through refinancing my car and personal loans for an incredibly low interest rate! This credit union will also noterize documents free of charge. We are looking into moving all of out banking needs here.
Response from the ownerHi Sarah, we’re happy to hear that our Roosevelt Branch has been able to help you. Thanks so much for your kind review, we can’t wait to pass it on to our team!

S Samsonite1Quick to sell you a loan but not quick to give good customer service. Paid my loan within 7 days and can't even get a call back about an issue with their payoff system. Had to call customer service.
Response from the ownerHi S Samsonite, we're sorry for the negative experience you recently had while trying to get in touch with our branch. We appreciate the feedback and will pass it on to our team so we can improve. In the meantime, if there are any additional details you'd like to share, please email us directly at [email protected]. Thanks!

Nate Iorg1MACU is a fickle, interesting beast. Looking for somewhere to put your money? MACU is a viable option. Looking to purchase a home? MACU is fairly competitive, and once again a viable option, albeit sometimes you may end up waiting for 8 months. I've gotten two mortgages through MACU. The first took about 8 months and 2 hits to my credit, for literally no reason whatsoever. The rep I worked with in the Vernal office just called me roughly 40 days after I signed paperwork and informed me he needed me to come do it again. After speaking with corporate, I discovered that he had not pushed the original paperwork through. Then, total silence (despite my several attempts at getting some form of update) for an additional 7 months. When I would actually get someone on the phone, they'd just tell me something along the lines of, "I haven't heard anything, but no news is good news on a mortgage." This was not a foreclosure/short sale, which I'm aware typically takes a hefty length of time. The second mortgage was extremely easy and painless, with a very good rate. If you're looking for pretty much anything else, I wouldn't even waste time with MACU. First off, to simply give consent for an appraisal (and other incredibly minute documents), MACU refuses to allow electronic signatures. Others, for whatever reason, they're happy to let you sign electronically. It makes zero sense. Either the rep who insisted I come in to sign the miniscule appraisal consent form was lying/lazy, or there are some ridiculous policies in place. Whatever the case, I could not electronically consent to an appraisal, but a binding contract for GAP insurance and agreement to provide insurance was totally fine to be electronically signed. Secondly, if you've ever had a contract-to-hire scenario where you rolled your contract over to a salaried position, apparently that makes MACU reps' heads spin. That's the scenario I'm in, and apparently (after being told this was totally fine before hitting my credit) I cannot get a loan, which I am only finding out after they've hit my credit. This is after the underwriter made a few assumptions, asked for business taxes (which I don't have, never stated I was self employed, never stated anything to indicate that they'd need business taxes, have been in a contract position as a w2 employee), assumed I was on a 1099, etc. Just to get that ironed out took roughly a week, as I'd only get a response between 4:30 and 5:00 PM the next day, even if I promptly responded. I'm certainly not perfect, and don't respond immediately to everything, but it should not take a week to figure out that I was not on 1099 and did not even have business taxes to submit. Finally, the general flow/layout is a disaster. I've been a member of MACU for right around 12 years now. Every single time I go in for something a teller cannot help me with (loans for example), I wonder how a person could possibly think this flow is a good idea. I've been called to come sign a few things for a mortgage, and because their layout is so insanely weird, have waited for ~45 minutes before someone was able to come tell me that the rep was waiting for me and I didn't need to wait. On the flip side, I've gone directly back to the mortgage office (again, at their request) only to walk in with others signing paperwork and get 3 dirty looks. You either wait and learn that you didn't need to, or you walk on back and get dirty looks, as though you rudely stormed in uninvited. Because mortgage personnel don't concern themselves with checking the lobby, and that task is apparently given to other loan officers (who can be swamped, and often are) this is what you're stuck with. Edit in response to MACU: Yes, it was cancelled due to the fact that I rolled over a contract-to-hire position into (drum roll) being hired full time, and did not have pay stubs. I stated that no less than 5 times during and before the application process, and was told it would be fine. Then, was informed otherwise. Your response is a perfect summary of my complaints: complete ignorance.
Response from the ownerNate, thank you for being a member for 12 years, and our sincerest apologies for not being able to fulfill your lending needs to your satisfaction. Upon review, it appears the last application was cancelled due to incomplete paperwork. Should you decide to apply for a loan with us in the future, we will do what we can to help you complete the application in a timely, efficient manner. Again, we regret the experience you have had with us, and would look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve you in the future.
