Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union Reviews

William Rodgers1I paid my mortgage on July 27, 2020 with a check from MAFCU. I dropped the envelope in the mailbox at White Oak Post Office. Somehow, the US post office lost track of my check/mortgage payment and the bank charged me a late fee and my credit score went down. I called the bank and made both August and September mortgage payments. The bank rep. told me to call me credit union and issue a stop payment. I talked to a manager just now and she told me they would charge me $20 fee because " it is not our fault". This credit union has lousy customer service. This is not the first time they have shown neglect toward me as a customer. They just don't care. Make MAFCU your last choice if you want good service at a credit union in the DMV.

Seth Troy1Mid-Atlantic is so far the worst banking relationship I've had in 40 years. In my experience, they combined a lack of product knowledge with inferior technology and fundamental disinterest in their customer. My favorite example, which represents my experience well was at the beginning when I attempted to refinance an investment property with them. Seemed simple. Their team spent a month working on the loan and the day before I was supposed to close, the informed me that they couldn't refinance investment property that had a HELOC on it. They knew there was a secondary loan on day 1 and their team spent a month processing my loan and apparently didn't realize how their own mortgage product worked. I made the mistake of going through with a separate pending HELOC application anyway and its been a surprisingly frustrating few years. I just paid $800 in closing costs to get the exact same HELOC elsewhere just to be rid of them. The sense I have is that these guys are focused on low-income, underbanked customers and are taking a dollar store type approach to their business.

Bee Hay1I have been a member of the Silver Spring branch for about six years. I have excellent credit and I have had up to 12,000 dollars, at one point, of my money in savings in that credit union. Yet, they still denied me a credit card with them. This is the second time. They tried to state that I had excessive money owed. In all actuality, it is a small loan I will be finished paying in about six months, and insufficient funds. How?? I am working, and I only applied for a little amount. The first time they turned me down, I had a full-time job. I think they want you to make six figures before they even consider you(sarcasm), or maybe be of a different background. How is it that I can get several offers in the mail from credit card companies, but your own credit union won't give you one???? To me, going with your bank is the best bet, but I get denied??? No one's missing much here..... One thing is for certain, I am pulling my money from this credit union and opening up an account elsewhere. They do not value their customers, in my opinion.

April Muzzatti1I put money in this account to hide it from myself. I was hoping the money would grow, however, they were taking $5 monthly from my account for over a year. I received no interest and lost some of my principal due to an inactivity fee to a SAVINGS ACCOUNT. The point was to save the money not pay $5 a month for them to hold on to it. Once I realized they were essentially stealing from me, I attempted to close the account via the online portal. They are currently given me a hard time about this as well. Apparently being logged in to a private account is insufficient evidence I am me. I simply zeroed the account and moved on. This bank is a joke.

S W1I went to the White Oak branch of MAFCU because I was in urgent need of Notary services. One of the employees stated I could not use their Notary because I did not bank with MAFCU. Notary services are a Maryland State service. I should not have to bank with MAFCU in order to pay a fee to use their Notary service. Judging from the reviews, MAFCU is the LAST institution of which I would be a member. However, I am a member of Navy Federal Credit Union, and I rate them with 5 stars.

MrNiceGuy 331I’m being totally honest these employees that work here in at the mid Atlantic in white oak are liers there’s no policy that says they can’t change more than 500$ if you don’t bank with them. I ask them to show me a policy in writing they couldn’t do that I kept asking and they still couldn’t show me a policy on a piece of paper. So what else could they be lien about if they can’t even find or tell the truth about a policy that’s says a customer can’t change more than 500$! Don’t bank with these people they are rude and they lie. Thank you

John Simmons1A couple of months ago I gave the MAFCU a very high rating. I’m changing it to the lowest rating not because of customer service, but because of their rather sudden move from White Oak to Hillendale. There was very little information shared. I am online regularly and only saw information on the the move a week ahead of time. Up until Memorial Day, I visited the branch weekly. Very poor communication I’m a person with a disability and the White Oak location had designated handicapped parking spaces and a drive through window. The Hillendale location has no bank designated handicapped parking spaces. There are some by the Starbucks in the shopping strip, and the Mattress Discounters. The parking in that Hillendale location is so bad, I long ago stopped going to that Starbucks and other stores. I’m very disappointed and will be moving my money and business to another credit union or bank in the near future. I’m very disappointed in the lack of lead time, communication and apparently not valuing access for business with persons with disabilities.

James J Thibadeau1Repeated issues with this banking service. I have three business accounts and (just closed) a personal account. Getting anything accomplished in a timely manner is terrible. I will be closing the rest of the accounts shortly.

Gidget Walker1Because of how they treat share branch credit union members, I would NEVER join or recommend MAFCU. With no one waiting before or after me, and three tellers doing nothing, I was refused service.
