Johns Hopkins Federal Credit Union Reviews
P
Petar Maksimovic4It is funny that most reviews are either five stars or one star. In my experience, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I have had a car loan with JHUFCU, and I also have a mortgage. I personally didn't have any problems people mentioned. I don't think they have an intent of swindling anybody -- but mistakes can happen. I would attribute it more to incompetence of certain employees, rather than a company policy. The rates are good, so once the system is correctly executing the algorithm (of whatever it's supposed to be happening), then it's great. However, I should say that, for a banking institution, the customer interaction workflow is a bit clunky, at least compared to other banks (where it's not great by any means). But I don't visit the branch often, so I can live with that.

Jennean Everett1If you like having one or two branches to choose from, being on hold forever when you call customer service, and then for that customer service to be rude and awful than this is a bank for you!

Punyawat Apiwatanakul5I was shocked by earlier comments posted years before. I think they have made changes. I met with a very nice Staff here. Her name is Kaitlynn Bowman. She put attentions and efforts on helping us open an account. She is very kind and answer our questions politely. I would say that if you come here, you'll experience a great service.
Response from the ownerThank you for your kind review, it will be shared with Kaitlynn and her manager! :)

Maximiliano Véjares1Horrible service. They do not understand how the University works and they have a real bad attitude towards their clients. I was looking to open an account when I just got into Hopkins and they made it impossible for me to do so. Didn't believe I was a student, they do not understand how the university works. EDIT: In response to the JHFCU reply--to which google maps won't let me reply in public--I'd appreciate if they took the time to *read* the comment. Of course they don't have a record of my application, because they did not let me apply. They did not let me apply because they did not believe my letter of acceptance was real (perhaps given my hispanic accent). Again, I recommend JHFCU employees to make the effort to understand how the university works, beginning by looking at how letters of acceptance are written.
Response from the ownerHello - We are a little puzzled by your comment, as we do not have a record of an application from you. If you are a student of JHU you are eligible to join. Please email us at [email protected] with the best way to reach you and a supervisor will contact you. We look forward to hearing from you!

Z Obinna1For potential consumers: I do not know if I have EVER in my life experienced such lack of customer focus in my interactions with this "institution." The company representative continued to blame the customer for a large miscommunication (where they failed to contact us regarding auto loan insurance premium) that has resulted in significant consequences for my family. Whether you are looking for a savings account, checking out, personal/auto/home loan, I wouldn't even take it from this company if it was the last company on Earth. Please stay away. For company representatives: I highly recommend you remove this statement from your website: "But the most important service we provide is our exclusive focus on the Hopkins community and our members." Your focus has been on money and swindling your customer without appropriately informing them. I wouldn't wish this treatment on my worst enemy. ADDENDUM: On review of additional posts here, it is clear they have a history of this type of behavior with auto loans and adding insurance premiums without knowledge of the consumer.

kristen r1I went with JHFCU for my auto loan because they had the lowest interest rate, but it's not worth it. I have insurance for my vehicle and provided proof of insurance but today received a notice that a $3,257 insurance premium was added to my loan. No prior notice to say this was taking place, not attempt to contact me by phone or email. Very frustrating.
Response from the ownerWe are sorry that your entire car loan process didn’t go as smoothly as they normally do and for your frustration. We can understand it is not what you expected. We are looking into what happened in your situation and you will be contacted by a manager. Typically when we have proof of insurance, there is no need to add it to the loan, and we work with members to try to ensure we have that proof on file. We will work to resolve the issue.

Response from the ownerHello Alice - I am sorry to hear you received overdraft fees. I am glad MaryAnn was able to give you a courtesy refund for one of them. If this was an error on the company's part, for sending through charges they were supposed to stop, please contact that company to let them know of fees you were charged and request reimbursement . I hope this helps.
