  I first was turned to Homestead Financial Mortgage in Glen Carbon in 2017. This was my first house-buying journey, and I was naturally very nervous. I met JR Obrecht in person and instantly felt comfortable. He is one of those professionals that make you feel important and not just business. JR worked around the clock, so much as working with me after hours to ensure we could obtain the home. JR is one of those people you can text with an anxiety-inducing question to you, and he will answer pretty quickly in a manner you can understand without feeling dumb. Melanie Ledford is the second AWESOME person I have enjoyed working with. Melanie is one of the fastest communicators I have had to pleasure of doing business within any industry. If she does not have an answer, she will find it (she usually has the answer). She will work hard to ensure you can get what you want (pending qualifications, which she works hard with you for) when you need it. She makes you feel valuable and does not make you feel bad for asking too many questions. Recently, I have had the pleasure of working with Kim Osborne. She is extraordinarily kind, responsive, and quick to find an answer for you. She will go above and beyond working between you and the underwriters. Even if you are frustrated with the overwhelming process, she will maintain professionalism, answer your questions and help you through it. The significant part of Homestead does not stop with their prompt responsiveness and kind service. This company will work very hard to get you into the home of your dreams. They have worked with me to analyze finances and credit to develop a game plan to get to the right point of meeting a goal. Their knowledge of VA loans superseded what I have seen from places like Veteran's United. In addition, they do not use predatory tactics and false promises to lure you in. You will NOT get this level of customer service from a big bank. Not even from places like USAA or Navy Federal. If I have a question or need to change something fast, a text, email, or a phone call will be answered pretty quickly, if not at that moment. When I closed on my first home, an elderly artist painted, and Homestead framed a picture of my new home. I do not recall the artist's name, but I have attached it here. I will cherish this forever. I have experience buying my first home, refinancing, and changing insurance through escrow with Homestead. I am now in the process of buying my DREAM HOME with Homestead.

  I have used J.R and his team multiple times from buying to refinance and they are the best!! Will always reccomend and use them for all my mortgage needs. They are fast polite and very helpful!!

  JR, Melanie, Kim, and everyone at Homestead Financial were incredible. I live two hours plus away from their office, but they came recommended from my brother after we shopped both online-only and local lenders in our area...and they won our business throughout the entire process. JR and team will take the time to explain every step if needed, and they are available 7 days per week to answer questions and help get your loan closed on time. Highly recommend whether you're a first-time homebuyer or otherwise.

  I cannot give JR and Melanie high enough praise! Their integrity and customer service are exceptional. Originally we were going to go with Veterans United but learned that they sell the mortgage out to another financial institution. We closed with JR in 2017 on our new home. Two years later I received a phone call from JR letting me know about the VA streamline option, which was more than I expected from him. His integrity brought our original interest rate from 4.1% to the low 3% range. He made sure the market was right for us and secured us into the perfect rate. We’re saving money and went to a 25 year fixed from an original 30 year fixed. Therefore, we’re not only saving monthly but long term by knocking another 2 years off. Him and Melanie are a great team and the entire process was beautifully executed, saving us headaches and grief! I highly recommend Melanie and JR for any mortgage brokering. I don’t know what the two previous negative reviews have to do with JR or Melanie, but I believe them to be inaccurate. I guess some folks expect to be the center of attention and expect everything to go the way as they want it to. Either way, as I previously mentioned, I wouldn’t recommend anyone else! Thank you again Melanie and JR, you made the home buying experience a flawless event and not a nightmare.
