Alma and the team at Greater Iowa have been nothing less than stellar. I’m writing this review as I am disgusted at the incompetence of another institution who stopped my auto pay & then it effected my credit. GICU has called to make sure that my payments were completed when they hadnt received it yet before a late fee or report to the credit union. This is the kind of competence and customer service. I expect and appreciate. FWF.

      Response from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing, Brian. I'm glad to hear we've been doing a good job.

Some of the employees were professional and helpful. However, the branch manager was very rude and disrespectful multiple times. She lied about what time they were closing and was attempting to rush me off of the phone. Any time I attempted to ask a question, I was interrupted before I could even finish my sentence. My husband and I were told by 3 different employees, we needed different documents each time we called about our loan. When I attempted to clear up the misinformation the branch manager continued to be rude and talk disrespectfully to me. When I stated I felt that she needed to apologize for her disrespectful behavior, she told me she would absolutely not apologize to me and if that was all I wanted from her that she would be getting off the phone. To the employees who were helpful and professional, thank you very much. To the branch manager, I think a class in professionalism and customer service would do you some good, especially to customers who are already members of the credit union and military veterans.

      Response from the owner

Best banking experience I have had. Laura is always willing to answer every question until you walk away fully understanding the info. Has guided me through my credit building and loans and even the odd question about bank services. Absolutely a model manager. The other ladies are typically friendly and get you in and out.

      Response from the owner

Thank you, Aaron! We love hearing about our member's experiences within our branches. Please continue to reach out with all of your questions - we're always happy to help!

I have banked with them for years and recently got a truck through them. They were excellent to finance it in the first place but then I decided to refinance it a year later. Laura was working on it and she helped me refinance the truck loan and a personal loan to save me tons of money. They have also even taken time to go through my credit report and tell me exactly what actions I need to take. Incredible service and love banking with them.

      Response from the owner

Thank you, Bryan! We love hearing our member's stories and how our quality service and products are able to help our members achieve financial success. Thank you for sharing!

Please be informed before banking here. My husband and I have never had such frustrating experiences with a bank or credit union. From the very first lobby experience we should have been concerned. We were asked in the open concept establishment in front of other customers what we'd like our account pin to be. We stated we would write it down but not verbally state in front of others. This was for establishing a checking account. We also signed a vehicle note here. He stated we were good to go on our autopay paperwork. Fantastic! I verified a few weeks later as pay date was quickly approaching. The bank had NO record of us signing these papers. Okay, we set it up again, sent paperwork. Surprise, they found the originals, they were just never entered into the system to have it go into effect. So, be sure to keep track of these things. If you don't, you can't trust that GICU followed through. I've had a couple questions I have called in for the past couple months and not one time do I get the same answer. Training clearly lacks, not the employees fault but an upper level problem and the credit union greatly suffers. Final stick that made us withdraw our accounts...our HELOC was denied...I asked details and they said check back in a couple months. I should add that a fellow credit union gladly established our HELOC for us the next day and we just closed on it. We just wanted to establish not even necessarily use, rates are low...but DENIED by GICU. Lesson learned...but it doesn't end there. When cancelling account, over the phone I was informed my husband and I both needed to be present to close. When I arrived, that wasn't the case...only one of us. More mis-information. Still dealing with one final mess with their auto bill pay portal. It won't let me cancel it, website keeps giving error null but they are still processing from account. Save yourself the headache and bank elsewhere. I'm sad to say this since this bank is in our back yard basically. I really had high hopes to bank at a smaller credit union close to home. We did still decide to move to a credit union...but sadly not GICU. Staff was very friendly each time. No complaints with friendliness but everything else is a mess! Also, Laura is great, I really like her and have high hopes GICU will turn things around. If they ever do, MAYBE we would try again.

      Response from the owner

UPDATE: Got a call in the middle of my work day on 5-30-2020 from the GICU to discuss my review. I called them back today. This was not caused by COVID and am offended by the lame apology suggesting it was. I was given a phone number for the Indianola location. Seems sad that a negative review has to be made just to get the phone number of the location where you do business. Corporate convivence vs. customer service … their choice is unfortunately obvious! 5-1-2020 Can't call the Indianola location directly & the call center says no one answers the phone there. I was transferred to a voice mail and told to leave a message, but no one called back. After getting off work at 5:30, racing there, had to pound on the door to get one of the women inside staring at me to come to the door. Was informed they closed at 6pm, I needed an appt to come in, and should call for an appt... OMG ….. they can't be bothered to help me, guess I won't bother putting more money there.

      Response from the owner

Hi Kristine, we do apologize for the inconvenience this caused you. In our current environment, we have various procedures in place in light of Covid-19, but hope to be able to serve our members in our normal fashion soon!

Went into credit union to ask about opening an account. They promised $100 cash back for opening. I asked if there were any requirements for the $100 back. They said no. After 6 months I had not received the $100 so went into the branch. They said I had not met the requirements for receiving the $100. I asked how that could be since they specifically said there were no requirements other than I open the account. They said there were requirements and sorry the person didn't tell me about them and it was too late now. Would never recommend this credit union!

Went to get paperwork to have automatic payment taken out of my Son's account for his loan, was told since he was in the Army the paper had to be notarized even though there was no place on the form to be notarized. So we took time out of our visit to go and get it notarized and to find come out it didn't need to be notarized whatsoever. What a joke!
