Duke Credit Union Reviews

Mark Hollwedel1They lied to me when I opened my account in person. They told me as long as I deposited $100 and kept my balance above $100, they wouldn’t charge me fees. They charged me over $100 in fees over the past several months. When I found out and called them, they told me that there was nothing they could do because the minimum balance needed to avoid fees is $2500. Their own website says it’s $100. Don’t trust them with your money. Read the other reviews and consider using any of the other credit unions in the area. If the other option doesn’t steal from you or fraudulently open accounts in your name, then it’s a better choice than Duke Credit Union.

Gigi Benmadison5one word: SHARON! She's the most pleasant, sweet--and funny :) person. I'm talking just about calling them on the phone, folks. Nothing else about Duke CU stuck out for me at all. Never used my card much-stuck funds in, left them there. But calling in and getting Sharon is what I'm raving about-she's a great representative of a not-so-great company.

Miriam Parker5People are nice, customer service is great, I love it there.

Robert Williams5I have banked with DFCU for 16 years. It is the best bank/credit union I have ever used and have move accounts from other, larger banks to DFCU. Those i did not move, I regret.

Larry Gage1Duke Credit Union tries their best to discourage clients. They have crazy policies requiring you to have a "draft" and savings account if you intend to take advantage of all the services offered. Website is disorganized and redirects to what looks like a scam site. It's overly complicated to link to external accounts. Average interest rates. No compelling reason to bank here.

William Boler1Horrible Bank, I strongly do not recommend banking with this institution. Constant issues with accounts being frozen or blocked for no reason. No real support or answers for issues. You are better off going to a real bank with real support. Do Not join this bank, you will regret it in the future. One star is being generous

sinisa hamaric4Its a credit union, not a bank. You get what you get. Don't expect the same all day and night type of service as a big bank. I never had an issue and there was fraud on my card one time and my money was refunded in 24 hours. The new chip cards work fine and if you need help with that, probably should stick with cash. The only issue i have with them is the web banking interface through their vendor is terrible.

Joshua Cox5I have taken out two vehicle loans from Duke Credit Union in the past and have received fast responses and great rates. Setting up the payments was a bit of a hassle on the second one but once it was straighten out everything was great. I would recommend giving them a try if you are eligible.

Les Toolish1All should know they cleanse these reviews regularly. I have left several appropriately critical reviews of Duke Credit Union in recent years and all have disappeared along with a long list of other highly critical reviews of this needlessly vexing place of business. Duke FCU simply is not an adequate place to do even normal personal banking, certainly not business banking. I cannot recount the number of serious, untimely, and very costly errors they have committed with my account. They have placed my deposits into other customers' accounts. They have charged checks from other customers' accounts against my account. They regularly hold checks for 5 or more days, even when they are from major banks and you have received these checks for many years without problem. They have enormous security problems and you will be the one who is inconvenience for their incompetence. My account has been hacked 3 times. Each time, they forced me to drive to their home office (very inconveniently located) to submit forms. Then, they take their good ol' time reviewing the charges, taking up to two weeks to rehabilitate your account. Use wire service or ACH? Good luck. Sometimes you will get it when its supposed to post, sometimes not. They are rarely happy when they screw up, either. Their first reflex is to blame YOU. They have lots of practice with this drill. Their hours are not good and they will be gone when you need them most. They take long holidays, so make sure your money is in the bank a good week ahead of their closing date. But that is no guarantee. There are states where you might not be able to use your card. They may shut you off after you spent $200, even if you have thousands in the account. Then, you're screwed. They have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE for emergencies, after hours, and so on. This wouldn't be a problem with a normal bank, but it sure is with DUKE FCU. You should look to have a major, after-hour problem with them at least every other month. Be prepared for desperate emergencies at airports, out of town gas stations, and buying that last minute gift for the kids. These are the events you will most remember as a Duke customer. Oh, I almost forgot one chronic source of abuse you will DESPISE as a customer: Their web site. It's chock full of features from the early 1990's (a review scrubbed earlier this year from Google was appropriately colorful and technical with details). You have to submit MS Access-like queries for everything. Want your current account info? You have some parameters to choose and to get right or you will get bunged out. And there is no "home" button to get you back to the main page. I always wonder how things stay the same there for so many years. I was a Duke employee and just everything and everybody has this as my account info. I am migrating out slowly, but even starting there is something I regret. I put no peculiar strains on a bank. If anything, I have fewer services there than I suspect most would. So, know what you are likely getting in to. I wouldn't do it again and I am so badly inconvenienced by them I could easily write a review like this every 60 days.

Mary Barzee1ATMs are still way behind the times, serious account security issues...the very basics of any online banking interface should include being able to show you what has been deposited or withdrawn from your account. You would probably be better off burying your money in a giant pickle jar in a public park than using this bank. Beware! Put your money elsewhere.
