I recently opened an account here because it was in Cedar Rapids and closer to where I reside. I opened my checking and savings account on Friday I made a large deposit. The teller told me that I can speak with a banker to receive my debit card I DID NOT RECEIVE MY DEBIT. Instead I was told that they now order them online and will get it within 7-10 days. Honestly I should of just chose FM bank because they give you debit cards right away. I don’t have time like that to stop in a branch to get money like that when I work till 5:00 then have to pick up my husband and my children from daycare. It’s not convenient. I do feel like this bank is racist about depositing cash and how much. I wouldn’t recommend this bank to anyone of color.

I’ve been banking with them since 2017 and they hire customer service gets worse and worse. Today I was on hold for 30 minutes and finally 7 minutes before they close a woman answered and was rude, very rude!! I let her know the importance of my call and that is been waiting for 30 mins and she laughed.... then she sent me to someone’s voicemail box, and of course nobody answered when I called back. Now I’m searching for a new bank .

The ATM here will not accept deposits to a CO-OPed credit union. I suggest banking with a household banking institution if you need immediate banking support.

I’ve been using this bank for a while. Due to the fact that I have an American Express my paycheck gets deposited there and A LOT of businesses don’t care about their consumers enough to pay a few extra fees.....I rarely am able use the account. Due to changes between my card & the bank, I think I will be able to use it more but have been thinking of closing my account and finding a more convenient bank. Most of the reviews of this place are pretty accurate. It’s OKAY. Pretty sure a few of the 5 stars are actually their employees. There’s one super nice employee named Leslie (I believe) & a couple people who are friendly but some of the other people (1 in particular -wont Mention his name) make you feel extremely out of place, and just flat out awkward...so there was a review below saying they’re racist, i don’t think it’s that exactly - but I think the better way to say it is they can be judge mental if you’re not in the same “class” financially as them (or should I say ASSUME we have less money). You can see it in dudes face he’s just super thrilled that you’re there... and he’s just very awkward in general. Second- the hours- right after I switched to this bank their hours changed. So now they literally open after most people are already at work and are closed before most are off. Dropping off money to someone quick in the am isn't a possibility here. Third- when I had Fidelity put my check in my account. They held it for 2 days. Told me half would be available the next day & the rest in 2 days. I understand Holds and why they exist but y’all are REALLY scared of fidelity not having the money? Get real. Then the money still took two days in to hit period. Lastly- yesterday I’m on the site trying to transfer money from savings to checking and the site is sending me to a nonexistent page and giving me an error every time I try to put The amount of money I want To transfer in. So I go Buy what I need— Hoping my money will just transfer automatically (you know- seems how I am Off work and they’re closed I cant Call anyone for help and the site is horrible in General and malfunctioning) and then after i pull out money from the atm and try to pull more- it starts telling me I’m an unauthorized user - go to the banks atm - it tells me my card isn’t supported here at the bank that issued it. Get home after struggling and get a call from the fraud dept. they thought it was fraud. I use The card at least once or twice a month and usually are for bigger transactions so not sure what that was about but it was extremely inconvenient. The good & the bad: Sooo in short- they’re OKAY. Could care more about their clients conveniences instead of their own. But on a good note and why I’m still there- they’re better than Wells Fargo lol....they also do not have any fees for banking.... any hidden fees and they’re super close to my home and the highway. Right now I’m working on my credit and a lot of banks wouldn’t work with me but they gave me a basic checking/savings account hassle free in like 10 min, so that would be the biggest reason to go with them. I just think it’s weird you have these options then treat the people who use them differently. Never had a wait here either. In and out for the most part even when setting up my account. Never had any issues with my debit card or it being issued though.

Charger my account when i made no mistake. I was about to buy something online and it didn't process correctly so it transfered to my paypal without my permission and they charged me for some reason. I do NOT recommend this bank at all. And my mother has been going to this bank for YEARS and they wouldnt even aprove her for a loan when shes been nothing but loyal all these years to this bank and always pays things back. Save time and go to a good bank like cedar rapids bank & trust, they have good cookies! and if you recommend people to their bank you and that person opening an account can get $25-$100 a peice.

Before transferring my loan to C1CU I had previously had my mortgage at a different credit union. I wanted a lower rate and saw that C1CU could offer better than what was offered at my current CU. I met with Tom Schulte and the process was smooth. Not only did I have a better rate but I had found additional ways to make sure my money was working the best for me. I don't know much about mortgages or rates but Tom spelled everything out in simple terms without all the industry lingo. CICU will continue to be my choice for my mortgages going forward.

      Response from the owner

Hi Christian! Thank you for leaving us a review! I am delighted to hear your experience was great with our mortgage department. We really appreciate the feedback. Thank you for your membership here at C1st. Lindsey

They dont send out debit cards without a big hassle. They have the oldest most outdated ATM. Its still envelope deposits. Im sitting here waiting for them to open because they changed hours. But theres 15 cars in the lot. Everyone is inside but they cant open the drive through until 9?! Deposited money but couldnt withdraw it all weekend. Can get cash back from hyvees ect. but this garbage atm wont give money. Honestly one of the least impressive credit unions ive ever delt with. Not even my account. Its my boyfriends and im about to help him switch banks!!!! he only had a savings account and no debit card when i met him. They really jerked him around here.

      Response from the owner

Hi Lydia - I am very sorry to hear that your experience at our CR location was not a good one. We are aware of the issues with our ATM and are working diligiently to get this resolved. Our hours changed for our frontline staff (tellers, personal representative, branch manager) but not for all of our backoffice employees. This is why there were multiple cars in the parking lot at this time. If you would like to discuss this further, please call our CR Branch Manager, Kathleen Sullens at 319-297-3002. Thank you - Jessica

The rewards checking is THE best deal in town. People are super friendly like banking used to be. A little hard to get to, but I do mostly online banking. My bank started charging for checking and savings accounts, C1st offers both for free plus the 3% rewards.

      Response from the owner

Hi George - Thanks for taking the time to leave us a wonderful review! We are glad to hear that you like our Rewards Checking accounts as much as we do! Thank you for your membership.- Jessica

The Atm is pitiful. Stop in at 5 one morning to get some money before work for my kids trip...only to never receive my money...after waiting for over a week for a audit...they tell me everything is ok on their end so needless to say I'm out 200 dollars. I definitely won't use the atm or bank there. I'm still trying to get my money back after a month...guess my next step is filling a report with the police from what my bank says to do on the next step of trying to recover my loss

      Response from the owner

I opened a checking account recently by applying online. I spoke with reps via phone and was told to take my ID into the office for the files and to deposit the $5 opening fee. I completed that step and the teller told me they will mail my debit card out. I left the office and waited two weeks no card arrived. I then called and was told that they apologize the rep should have printed the card on the spot but they would have it printed immediately and it'd be available for pick up in 5 mins. The branch was closing in 5 mins so I told them I'd pick it up later. I work till 5:30 each day so on my next off day I stopped by to pick up the card. The teller was confused and seemed to have no knowledge of the card being printed. She told me it takes 3 mins to print. Then a different male teller came and said he can't print a debit card because they require a $100 deposit to print one off. I told them that doesn't make sense it wasn't in any material online or what I signed. The intital deposit to begin the account was $5. He didn't care. He said his manager recently told him these are the rules. I told him to just close the account. Someone at my job recommended the credit union to me stating they are good but clearly the reps are not well trained and practices are not followed! I don't advise starting an account or banking with them at all! Word of mouth is a big factor in marketing and I promise I'll be making sure all my friends and family stay clear of Community 1st!
