  I turned my taxes in to be done in late March. Cavanaugh & Co. still has not completed them and not sent them into the IRS yet. This is ridiculous!! Never took longer then 2 weeks before. They have lost a client that has been with them for 20 years.

  cavanaugh and Cavanaugh did my taxes last year and totally messed them up filed wrong returns to the wrong state and failed to rectify their mistakes after paying them $500 I am now left a year later after contacting them for the last six months that no other accountants will take my return or fix their errors so I’m out of luck I don’t know where to go Cavanaugh and Cavanaugh are the most unprofessional and pathetic company if I ever dealt with . Now the IRS is withholding $5000 from my return and won’t allow me to file another return until this is rectified I would give it zero stars but that was not an option I am contacting the Better Business Bureau as well.

  My experience with Cavanaugh & Co was a complete disaster from top to bottom. Let me count the ways: 1. They got my address wrong. They sent me some mail and it was returned to them but nobody mentioned this to me until I came into the office to sign my taxes once they were completed. All my documentation has the incorrect address. 2. They spelled our last name wrong. I had to point this out to them too during a phone conversation after my taxes were completed. All my documentation has the incorrect spelling. 3. They had a typo in my husband’s social security number. When I pointed this out to Deirdre Larkin, my tax preparer, she stated that had been corrected when they filed because it kicked it back to them because it was wrong. All my copies have the wrong social security number. 4. When I went to the office, I felt rushed to sign and leave. Was never offered a seat to review the paperwork. I was handed some papers to sign, some papers that said I owed a bunch of money and shuffled out the door. 5. When I got home, I noticed they had filled out Form 8889 for my HSA incorrectly. All the boxes on this form were incorrect and options checked were incorrect. I called to discuss this with them and received a call back the next day. They entered every single penny of my medical expenses for the year as non-medical expenses resulting in an enormous tax penalty. Nobody called to ask me about this, and I have never had to prove anything with any other tax preparer. Deirdre and I discussed this on the phone and discussed what should be in each box on the form. 6. A couple of days later I got an email from Deirdre with the corrected form. However, it was still wrong, still showing wrong amounts, still showing the wrong amount of taxes due. 7. Later that day I received another email of another attempt to get the form correct. However, it was still wrong, wrong dollar amounts, wrong boxes checked. 8. In the end, I must file an amended return with somebody else or on my own since they filed the incorrect taxes already. If you use this firm, be sure to double check EVERYTHING because they do not double check anything for accuracy. As it turns out - I am due a refund and never should have paid any taxes to start with.

  I have been a client for many years at this CPA firm. They are very attentive and up to date on the most recent tax deductions permitted. Each year they ask many questions to be sure no details are missed as they prepare your return. This is good as it prepares you to keep good records so they can do the very best job possible on your behalf . It also, helps you get organized so that nothing is missed with any deductions that would be permitted on your return. The main partner Michael Pender is one of the finest individuals I have ever met. I would definitely refer them help with any accounting or tax work needed.

  Do not use this company. Please save yourself the trouble, they constantly make mistakes, do not take responsibility for their mess ups, and are overall rude.They were hired to do business taxes and e-file. They were never filed because they simply forgot to do it out of their carelessness. After the fact, they claimed they never got signed E-File Forms, but the office manager from Cavanaugh And Co LLP Venice office sent correspondence that all the forms where signed and everything was taken care of. Bottom Line - You need someone you can trust to do your accounting and Taxes, Cavanaugh And Co LLP is clearly not the correct choice.

  Boy Mr.Pender has sure alot of personal issues to share as excuses why he could not be timely ...more than 10 people combined. Use caution. Almost did not leave a review until his pride terminated us after he was already fired.

  Finally picked up our2020 taxes. Not sure why it took so long. Still very friendly staff.
