Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union Reviews

Franco Webb5Very easy to work with. I love this local credit union. Everyone is always so nice and personable. Brianna handled my needs with ease and care. I would highly recommend moving away from the big banks and get a much better experience with Bragg Mutual.
Response from the ownerThank you very much, Mr. Webb. Small credit unions are like many small businesses in America, we are willing to work harder to meet your needs. Thanks for being a member.

Moon Beam1Update!!! I’ve been calling and leaving messages with the bank for over two weeks and I still haven’t gotten a call back & nowhere with my account,I do not recommend this bank to anybody……. I’m waiting to get an actual phone call back from the bank pertaining to a visa dispute… as far as I know the bank is responsible for not turning in my information on time and I may not be getting my money back but I’m not sure because since 11 o’clock this morning I’ve been waiting for the bank to call me back it’s now 5:04 no call…so if this is not resolved we have an even bigger issue because I am not taking the responsibility of my bank not turning in my statements to Visa on time.
Response from the ownerWe apologize for the difficulties that you have had with reaching us. We have informed one of our representatives and request that you give her a call at 910-222-1500 ext. 2235. We would like to call you directly however, in the interest of protecting your personal information, you may also e-mail at [email protected].

Ricky Raccoon1The postal credit union I've used for over 30 years is shutting down (after a merger with Piedmont Advantage 2 years ago) and they recommended all of their members open an account at Bragg Mutual. All leftover accounts would be merged over to Bragg Mutual if still open by May or June, the actual transfer date is still to be determined. Because I have 2 different federal deposits monthly, I determined my best way forward was to go ahead and proactively open an account at Bragg Mutual, so I could be sure to have the proper routing and account numbers attached to my deposits to avoid any possible snafus, as it takes a month or two before the changes would go into effect. Then, once I was sure my deposits were properly rerouted, I would close my postal credit union account before the actual merge date. Easy peasy, right? Evidently not. First, I tried to open a new account at Bragg Mutual online. I submitted the proper documentation but for some reason it couldn't be verified and they directed me to go to the nearest branch and do so in person. So I did. But even though I had filled out all of the documentation online, and even though I explained this to the gentleman seated before me, I was forced to do it all over again, as if the online application process meant nothing. I also explained to him why I was wanting to open an account there and explained the fact that my long time credit union was shuttering its doors. He stated that they had just became aware of the situation in an email from corporate. After I filled out the application and provided my credentials, he stated they could not open an account for me at this time until he got the go ahead from someone above him (who happened to be in a meeting and unavailable.) He apologized and was thoroughly professional at all times, but this was insulting to me as I could have just walked in off the street, not mentioned anything about my credit union closing and easily opened an account, but because I had informed him my credit union would be closing in a few months, I was penalized by not being allowed to open an account. It was a totally wasted trip, wasted time and a definite negative experience. This was unacceptable to me and I will take my business to someone who actually wants it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***In response to the response from Bragg Mutual... The name is Ricky, not Rickey. Nice sleight there. Upon rereading the email, you are correct in that Piedmont Advantage did not tell it's members to come over and open up an account with Bragg Mutual. It simply stated the accounts would be transferred in late May-early June. I stand corrected in that regard.. What is confusing to me is why I can't open up an account with Bragg Mutual? Do I somehow not qualify? I met all of the qualifications listed to open up an account. Is there something in your bylaws that states I can't have accounts at both credit unions? Surely, I won't be the last person who is a current customer of the old FPCU to come over to try and open up an account so that any possible mix-ups in federal deposits, (specifically, account and routing numbers) would be nipped in the bud before they could happen. You further stated, "...we agreed not to move any membership until the acquisition date, therefore we cannot open a membership until that future date..." but I didn't ask to move my membership. I asked to open an account with the short range goal of properly rerouting thousands of dollars of monthly federal deposits into a Bragg Mutual account. Once that goal was achieved, I would have then looked at closing my old account, but this process alone would take 1-2 months, barely within the time frame I was given for the transfer of my account to Bragg Mutual. After all, when federal deposits with one specific routing and account number are being rerouted to another, what could possibly go wrong?
Response from the ownerRicky, sorry about misspelling your name, it was not intended as a slight. The purchase of the PACU Memberships happened on July 1st, you should not have a problem opening an account now. The Fayetteville Postal Credit Union you were a member of for 30 years, closed and sold themselves to Piedmont Advantage CU 3 years ago. Unfortunately, Piedmont Advantage decided to cease doing business in Eastern North Carolina, and sold the memberships (again) to other credit unions including Bragg Mutual. We understand many FPCU members are not happy about having thier Credit Union sell thier memberships twice in three years. If we did not buy your membership, you might had to do your banking in Winston Salem as the next closest PACU office. But, we were happy to get your business. One of the tough parts about these types of transactions includes there were also legal contracts between the two credit unions to prevent a change in the contract value of the purchases, which included opening a new memberships. This actually had mixed results as our employees may not always had asked if the new member was also a PACU member. However, that provision only lasted for a few months until we asked PACU to alter the agreement, once the Fayetteville branch office was permanently closed prior to the purchase date. If you want to stop in and see me to discuss, happy to meet you, just knock on my door. Steve Foley - President

Lartarsha Cooks1I would recommend a 0 star, do not do any service with them! I repeat do not bank with them! I have been trying to contact them for the longest regarding my account and access to my funds. No matter how many times you call they do not answer.
Response from the ownerWe are sorry to hear that. Unfortunately we, like many businesses, suffer from being short staffed, however we are attempting to remedy that by hiring more people. Finding qualified employees is a challenge. However, our call volumes have greatly increased during the past 3 weeks. An alternative way to reach us is by emailing us at [email protected]. We hope to have the call center set up and running very soon.

Terry harney1My first visit to this venue should have been more pleasant. It was a nightmare. As soon as I stepped in, I approached the teller, and the individual who was training a new teller was, in my perspective, really unpleasant. Then there was another person who they recommended I visit, and she was also rude. Then I went to see another lady, whose identity I will not reveal since I have already spoken to management, and she proceeded to tell me that she had other loans and accounts that she hasn't processed and that she would be pleased if she could process mine first. I was just planning on dropping off two documents. The cashiers were adequate (they did their jobs), but unfriendly. Better customer service is something I'm looking for. I felt like I irritated them as they didn't even want to assist me. She then proceeds to scan my document in order to email Mrs. Liz, but she doesn't even finish the procedure due to computer problems. Instead of giving up, I felt that she might have tried alternative methods to have my document uploaded and turned in. This is quite unprofessional. I sincerely hope that a lot of cleaning will be done to improve this location because new potential members and present members deserve better customer service in the future.
Response from the ownerThank you for your concerns. We are trying to change our member service standards to include more smiles and better assistance. I'm sorry your experience was not very good on this day. Our staff will be sent retraining reminders this morning. Thank you for brining this to the attention of management. Also, thank you for allowing us to provide you with a new service, we hope you enjoy it.

Lynne G5In the craziness of the world we are living in and other financial institutions that will not even let you inside without an appointment, my visit at Bragg Mutual FCU today was exceptional. When I entered the lobby, my line of vision was immediately with Diana, who was inside her office, but asked if she could help me. She immediately took care of several different issues on multiple accounts. She was very professional and got it done quickly for me! Thanks Diana for making my experience such a great one!!
Response from the ownerThank you very much. Diana maintains a high level of professionalism which really helps during the COVID era, when all businesses are short of people to staff the office. Thank you so much for being a member of our credit union.

Julian Glasser5In my opinion I believe that the atmosphere of this establishment is most welcoming. The tellers are outstanding and helpful. All my transactions are quick and painless and if I need any information the staff is happy to help with any and all questions I have. If you have left any less then a five star review it is most likely because you walked into a credit union expecting to get you boots spit shined instead of worrying about that account being so low #BrokeFools

Tyran George5Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union is a wonderful bank. I first opened an account over a year ago during the pandemic. Steve Foley the President/CEO was super helpful in getting my account open by promptly returning e-mails and phone calls. Every time I went into the downtown Fayetteville Branch, the staff was helpful, polite, and courteous. They addressed everything I needed in a prompt and professional manner, but also made me feel as if I was family with the small talk and conversation. To all those naysayers, who think you need an international bank, I would say please support our local banks and you will be pleasantly surprised at the range of services they offer. I would highly-recommend giving Steve Foley and his crew a call for a good quality banking service!!!
Response from the ownerThank you very much, your words are most kind.

Valerie Jackson2I have banked here since I was a teen-ager and had never considered going any where else but they have stopped accepting third party checks and even declined to take a check with my name and my a second person who signed the check because he did not have an account with them. I had to go to another bank get cash for the check and return to deposit the money. I will be looking for a new banking establishment.
Response from the ownerWhen a check is made payable to two people we have a responsibility to make sure both parties receive their money. Therefore if the second person who may have endorsed the check but is not present, we do not know if that second person actually signed the check to be cashed. If the second person was present, you could have deposited the check.
