  I have been waffling about whether to share this review for some time, but decided that it was worthwhile to notify other potential home buyers so that they can make an educated decision. I would not recommend Bank of the James and am disappointed in our choice. The below situation was the straw that broke the camel's back on top of an otherwise marginal experience. 2 stars simply because they did get us through closing on time, which we appreciate. We were (accidentally) shared on an email chain in which our broker spoke very poorly about us to another professional. The email message that we were shared on by accident involved name-calling and the broker expressing her displeasure about answering our questions. I will not state the name of the broker because I don't wish anyone to lose a job, but the lack of professionalism was disappointing to say the least. To provide context, we were first time home buyers and had asked on several occasions for clarifications about the documentation that we were being asked to sign. Our broker was unwilling to speak with us outside of normal business hours (which are our working hours) without significant pleading. Even during business hours, she was short and displayed visual impatience at answering our questions.

  Great experience with Debbie at Bank of the James! We had one thing after another come up with our home purchase and she was always there to answer questions and help in any way she could. She was someone I could count on to give me honest and accurate information. She really went above and beyond and made a stressful home purchase a little less stressful!
