Viriva Community Credit Union Reviews

Janaya Harris2I have been a member if this credit union since 2011. The original staff was always polite, attentive and caring I use to love this credit union. Then one day a mean, uncaring, and rude Hispanic lady started working here and her nonprofessional attitude lead me to another credit union down the street with better hours, better customer service and better technology for this fast paced world. I still keep a savings account here for emergencies but that is it. It’s a shame how one person on the front line can ruin an outlook of a company in a flash.

Jamika Rodriguez10 Stars! Do NOT apply for any loans with this credit union. I have a line of credit with them and have been in good standing. After 2 years I received a letter stating that I have to send in my paystubs and they have to run my credit again in order to keep the line of credit open. When I called in and spoke to Kelly the loan officer she said this is normal practice for them and they have the right to run my credit every 2 years to keep the line open if I choose not to run my credit they will close my line of credit out! It didn’t matter if I was in good standing and paid on time. I’m in the middle of trying to purchase a mortgage and couldn’t risk running my credit or having anything on my credit closed out because this will affect my mtg preapproval. They did not care. I do NOT recommend this credit union to anyone! I have a line of credit with police and fire and with Trumark for over 5 years and I never had to deal with any of this nonsense that Viriva is making me go through. BE AWARE!! Do not apply for any loans with this credit union. Not only they are small, hours suck, not many locations, but their policies suck. I will submit a complaint to the NCUA as well.

Matt Fitzgibbons1This past November, I led a small group of nine students to a social justice event in Crystal City, VA, and used my Viriva credit card "for incidentals" for the hotel rooms in our group's name. This particular group of students who attended is exceedingly responsible, and I have never had any reason to doubt their discipline and maturity - as one such illustration of their maturity, they were attending this event over a three-day weekend to learn more about racial justice, immigration, the environment, and much more. Even so, I have a personal connection with all of them, and would not have let them attend the event otherwise. That said, since I paid off my credit card probably about a year ago, I hadn't used the card much since then, and was not looking for or expecting billing notices; when one came in January, I was shocked, but called in and paid it right away. Knowing that I would look into the matter immediately, I paid it, since I feared damage to my credit report. Then, over several weeks, the Crystal City Marriott would not respond to my requests for a detailed listing of charges, which raised my suspicions. I was passed around from person to person on the phone, speaking with one person or another, but never getting answers - only promises. With that, I began to suspect either negligence, or fraud. For that reason, I entered the matter into dispute on February 19th, or so I thought, when I spoke to Tiara on February 19th. She later followed up with a phone call to me on Saturday morning, February 23rd, and attempted to transfer me to the dispute line at Mastercard; however, that went directly to a recording, saying that they were only open M-F. With the matter still not resolved, I called VIriva again on Monday, March 18th, and spoke first with Maya, and then with Matt, each of whom assured me they would connect me with the proper person to assist. Additionally, I spoke with another individual yesterday who did the same thing, assuring me that the matter would be brought forth right away to management, and asked for the best number to reach me at. I waited by the phone all day, and again heard nothing. According to Alexis, employees failed to log both of those calls. On April 9th, I called back and spoke with Alexis, who assures me she will send an escalated email to assist with this matter, but I am so far beyond shocked, appalled, and dismayed that Viriva has handled this matter the way it has - transferring me to a non-working dispute line, not logging customer service calls and concerns, and allowing employees to give empty assurances over months that management will address the problem - when in reality nothing could have been further from the truth. To this day, more than seven months after the supposed transactions, neither Crystal City nor Viriva has provided any documentation of the substance of these charges, and it is long past time for the charges to be removed from my account.
