  Union Bank is where I been doing my banking for more then 30 years, at Union Bank in Porter Ranch since they built that plaza, I believe in the 90’s, the service and the tellers were always nice and professional, things are changing in UB Porter Ranch and not for the best. I think they are not happy and are not giving the best service that they used to give, will give them a month and will be changing banks.

  I have never understood why sometimes a hold is placed on a deposit and yet other times the funds are immediately available. Today, I learned Union Bank's precise protocol in making this determination. It depends entirely on the teller's preference as to gender, race or personal feelings as to the customer. While I was making a $5,000 deposit an inexperienced teller asked the teller next to her whether she should place the funds on hold or release the funds. He told my teller in Spanish "its up to your discretion" you can place a 2 day hold on the funds or make it immediately available. My teller replied to him in Spanish "I will place a hold on the funds". I guess she didn't like my hair or maybe my skin was not the right color for my funds to be made immediately available. Please note that at this very same Porter Ranch branch I have deposited numerous checks within the last month without a "hold" but again I did not have the teller I had today. It is a crap shoot with respect to deposits at the Porter Ranch Union Bank. Sometimes I get lucky and the teller makes the funds immediately available and sometimes I don't. The manager (Carol Luna) at the time of the deposit was not available. When I returned later to discuss the issue with her she again refused to make the $5,000 deposit without placing a two day hold. When I mentioned that this was non-sensible because Chase would make the funds available immediately if I made the deposit at their bank. The manager's only suggestion was to deposit the funds in Chase and present Union Bank with a Cashiers check so that the funds could be available in my account. The manager did not even try or suggest that she call the bank that the check was drawn on to inquire as to whether the funds were available. Union bank thrives on a reputation of being a bank for small businesses when in fact they are a hinderance. I had to make two unnecessary trips to the bank to make a simple deposit to no avail and the Manager's instruction as to depositing the check for $5,000 first in Chase and then to Union bank would have cost my business "grave" tax consequences with the IRS. Not very sound advice! If you are a small business and need a bank that is "business friendly" run don't walk from Union Bank. You don't want what happened to me and no doubt countless others happen to you.

  I am updating a 2 star review. They were pushing customers to use the kiosks. But they are no longer doing that. And the customer service is back to being a good as it used to be.
