State Employees’ Credit Union Reviews

Mm Mm5I've been with SECU for over 11 years and am highly satisfied. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and eager to assist. I've also been approved for many loans throughout the past decade and interest rates were more than fair.

Christina Walker2I like and much prefer other SECU locations. Today marked the 3rd and final visit at this specific SECU. There were 4 lanes open, 2 lanes had just cleared when I pulled up. I sent cash and my card over, a few minutes passed, someone said I'll be with you shortly. While waiting a few cars had pulled up, did their banking, and left... after I arrived and was waiting for service. A few more minutes later and someone finally offers me service. Clearly there should not be 4 lanes open if customer services representatives cannot handle identifying which customer was next in the queue! It's rude to assume that my time isn't valuable. This review is warranted because this incident has happened thrice, same sequence of events on different dates.

Marcus Hanshaw1Highly unprofessional. Have been going and cashing my check through a coworker who banks there for weeks and never had issues until suddenly it's an issue because of info they had to dig up on me from when I banked there ten years ago. Invasion of privacy and breach if their own branch rules. I don't recommend to anyone who has any self respect because they clearly don't have respect for anyone but themselves.

Jarren Rogers1Was rear ended during the Thanksgiving weekend and the insurance check was sent to me. Went to deposit the check at this branch and was told that it would have had a four-day hold due to having previous issues with checks coming from that bank. You heard that right, not an issue with my account, rather an issue with SECU and the other bank. I don't think the customers should have to pay the price for previous disputes between banks. No attempt to call and verify the funds, no other option than to hold my money for 4 days when I was in need due to my car being at the body shop. Doesn't really make sense considering I've banked there 20 years and I have cashed many other checks at the downtown location and never had a four-day hold. I feel they said the aforementioned excuse to cover the real reason. It was an insurance check from a major insurance company who was with a major bank, it wasn't a hand written check. I would hate to speculate as to why. I would have to say it was due to my outward appearance. Luckily, I was greeted with open arms at Telco Community Credit Union who verified the funds and had me in and out in 15 mins. As a Local Guide, I'll be sure to share my story!

Ahava Shalom2The secu credit union as a whole is great, but this particular location (Smokey Park Highway) has the most impersonable tellers I've ever in countered. How bad is it to work there where everyone looks absolutely miserable and hating life? I work in hospitality and i understand somedays you just dont feel like being super perky, but *no one* even attempts to smile. Ive been here for almost a year now and it's been this way the whole time.

Jake Watkins5Haven’t been to any other branches yet since I’ve only been there coming up on a year but the Smokey Park Hwy branch by Lowe’s has always been wonderful and just so helpful to me. I’m a local guide and would recommend to anyone!

Heather Brooks5No frills banking. This location is nice and new. If you have an account here, you can use their change converter for free. It was nice to get $80 from change. The folks are nice and helpful.

Overtop Media Digital Marketing5Best bank every if you can get the membership. extremely friendly staff and always very helpful. This is not a for profit bank hence all their interests are at making things better for you.

Jeremy Evans1I'm in here multiple times a week...I work a blue collar job and am a lot of the time having to rush to the bank as I get off at 515 and they close at 530. I am every only given looks of disgusted judgement because my jeans may have a few crumbs of sawdust on them or I have dirt on my hands...I'm also given judgement foe coming in right before they close which is the only time I can get there as I go to work before they open. I've never experienced a ruder group of people in one place in my life and I used to work for cracker barrel so that's really saying something. This branch must be where they send their bottom rung employees they have no hope for...
