I'm writing this review just so it's noted ahead of time. Most every time I come in to cash a check as a non-member at the Sunnyvale or Stevens Creek branch off top a teller has an issue because of my skin hue. (a few tellers gave me no issue cashing my non member checks at the Steven's Creek branch but I haven't seen a couple of them since 😬 !!!!Yesterday the teller tried to tell me my check looked forged and that the penmanship was off.!!!!. (so now I need to video record checks being written out to me in fear of cop calling and harassment to get her kicks and time waste) I told this same hued woman of a different ethnicity that the check was written by the person that is on the head of the check. So I see, just because payments don't agree with your bias, now you use the forge check tactic???.. Nancy was playing on the phone hanging up several times in the members face on the phone when she called to verify the check, wasting time and to instill duress in the situation. She left a message leaving a phone number that wouldn't directly lead to her upon call back. When I called I reached the member they answered and star one has the members correct phone number. For 2 member approved checks I was in the bank for upwards of 25 minutes. Which is fine as my time is valued by the person from whom the checks were written. Y'all treat brown skinned people like criminals aka bwb. Even after months I still get unusual treatment by certain staff acting as if I'm doing something wrong instead of them rapidly fulfilling the request for which I came. Star one is right, but you should put a negative Infront of that star name.
If I could give negative stars, I would. As others have said, DON'T GET A LOAN HERE. They run your credit, ask for documents for preapproval and then disappear. MAYBE you get a preapproval letter, but good luck after that. I had 2 different loan officers and was about to get a 3rd, when I moved on. So glad I did, I close in a couple weeks. Again, NO thanks to them (after being a loyal customer for 9 yrs, 2 previous loans). Don't do it to yourself, go elsewhere, there is no excuse for their lack of customer service, idc how busy you are, don't run credit if you can't handle taking on another client, its completely irresponsible!
Worst customer service ever on mortgages. If you need a timely response, don't hold your breath. Nice people, good rates, but abysmally slow and non-responsive. If their terms weren't so good, we would absolutely go elsewhere and are already starting to do so. No excuse for not even getting a reply to multiple queries just asking for a status update!
Compared to a bank, Star One is better, but compared to other credit unions, not so good. Their biggest problem is that they can't seem to leverage technology to the benefit of customers. You cannot digitally reconcile your accounts and no decent software reliably links to their site. They have an embedded finance tool, but it can't do critical functions that, say, Quicken would. There's potential here, but either the board or leadership is missing some key skills.
DO NOT APPLY FOR LOANS HERE. Applied for a loan almost 2 months ago. Never heard back. Application status in my portal was left as “In processing.” Called and emailed multiple times to my loan officer. Never got a response back. One more call made and my loan officer finally answered. She just apologized and said she’ll get right on it. HELLO! I’ve emailed and left voicemails and never got a response from either. Are you really sorry? All that time lost? I can’t forgive that. Find another credit union that will actually respond back and will do their due diligence and work to help get the services you need. Or, stick with star one and wait for MONTHS to get a response back. Unacceptable service.
If I could give them 0 stars then I would. I had to file chapter 7 but settled with Star One and paid in full almost immediately. Since then, Star One has reported my auto loan with them as discharged (it was not included ever) even though I have never been late and even have made double payments, cut off my bank statements (they decided to just quit sending them), deleted all my past eStatements to everything and cut off my online access to my accounts. When I asked for this to be fixed they were, in short, uncooperative and simply said no. I filed a complaint with the BBB. I got a call the next day and they restored my online access, but of course there are no transactions showing for my auto loan after my chapter 7 filing. Star One decided to include my auto loan in my bankruptcy all on their own. I love credit unions. I do not recommend Star One. They are not human beings and appear to like staying behind the red tape.
I recently refinanced my home with Star One and it was by far the most painful experience. They sat on my application with no movement for 2 weeks, their software for the application portal was extremely dated and buggy. I was not treated like a customer or a member, more like a borrower. I was always left in the dark on the process and handed off from loan officer to loan officer without being notified. The entire process took 3 months.
Been a member since Star One Credit Union opened in the early 1960s. I certainly understand why Consumer Reports rates it as the only Credit Union in the top ten financial banking institutes in the USA. I have banked with other banks for various functions but overall Star One's services and rates stand out far ahead of any of them.
They are doing an amazing job , i got a car loan throu them , very low interest rate , and i love the way this Credit union designed . I difinetely recommend this Lender to every one .
Don't visit bank branches often. But good to have this one close buy. Typically quiet. Rarely any wait. Friendly, welcoming service.
