River City Bank Reviews

Montana Martin5I went to the 6th street location and had an issue opening an account. In the past I had signed up for a credit card, bank account, and payroll using slight variations of two address and that populated into 5 different addresses attached to my name. Kenny walked me through what I needed and got me set up with an account. Everyone else I spoke with was courteous and helpful, I would recommend this bank.

Azam Majd1I regretted that I chose this bank and opened an a/c with them today. This is the first time ever that I wanted to take my money and leave after entering the bank and waiting so long. They use the customer time to train their staff. When I called Jonathan yesterday, I asked him specifically about amount of the time that takes to open a new a/c. He said 20 min. I made an appt and asked him if I could be late 5 min. The answer was "no, our appts are every 20-30 min". Today they put me in hand of a banker who said to me that it was his first time opening an account! It took him one hr and 40 min to do 20 min job( this is when they do not like to wait for a customer even 5 min. you can assume how long would it take to close an account then!). Very unsatisfied and a negative first impression. I do NOT trust these bankers anymore.

Connor1This is a detailed review on my bad experience but you can find a summary in the line below this if you prefer not to read the entire review. TL;DR - Bad Experience Opening, They perform a HARD credit check to open bank accounts. Also they do not offer the very common services of transferring between personal and business bank accounts. Online banking didn't work for me. I am now closing my bank accounts FULL REVIEW - I have just opened an account with River City Bank about 3 or 4 days ago and I am already extremely dissatisfied. So the first major problem is that to open an account at River City Bank a HARD credit check was performed on me which I very much did not want and would have not opened an account at that point if I didn't get told that it was not a hard credit check beforehand. After that happened I just thought it is too late now so I will just open the needed accounts. So I proceed to open the accounts. I then have to go and get a piece of mail for address verification. I return probably not even 10 minutes later with the required piece of mail and the person assisting me in opening the account is gone for lunch. This is kind of annoying but not a major deal he deserves to have his lunch but the more annoying and in my mind absurd part is that I was told he was basically the only guy there that could open new bank accounts. So to my understanding, the main part of customer acquisition for River City Bank (or at least this branch the MAIN branch) is controlled by one college student that probably has no substantial pay or allegiance to River City Bank and could leave at any moment because of that and that he is ONLY one there that is qualified to do the MAIN part of customer acquisition! So then after the very drawn out process, I had to go through with another person that didn't entirely know what they were doing, I then finally set up the business accounts needed and then go to set up the personal account. While this is initiating I ask about how soon funds are available when transferred between accounts in online banking. In this case scenario I specifically asked about business to personal and I was informed that River City Bank doesn't even provide the option to transfer from business accounts to personal accounts. That is a major issue for me as that would be the main reason to have a personal account there for me would be to pay myself from my business account. So I have to just say scratch that on the personal account. I could see how the argument could be made that I should have asked about this topic before opening an account if it was such an important topic. I would agree that is true but to be fair to my side as well I had never experienced a bank that didn't allow this. I have had experience using accounts in 7+ banks and I have never experienced a bank that did not offer this service. To me, this was like ordering soup from a restraunt and then having them ladle the soup into your hands. Then when you ask them why they are doing this, they reply that it is because they don't offer bowls at that restaurant. So after a very prolonged and troublesome setup process to get reduced functionality I finally go to login to online banking to do a transfer to an account at another bank because transfer to personal was not available there. I follow the instructions that they gave exactly. I go through the whole process of setting up security questions and a new password and all that, then after that I go to sign into the account I created just to be told continually that I can't even log in. I try several different methods and times to log in to no avail. I then have to call up to the bank to get this issue resolved and have another decently long delay there. After writing this I am going to head over to the bank to close my accounts because of the events that have transpired here. Especially because of the lack of an ability to transfer into a personal account. I have opened other accounts at several different banks with pleasant experiences at all of them. This has been the singular exception.

Kody Tyssen1Heed my warning when I advise that you do not bank here. I have banked with River City for almost 3 years now and have both a personal and a business account. For a long time I considered myself a patron of this bank and ranted and raved about them. Recently I was having issues with my business card and went in person to check my account to find out that I had over $900- I am not exaggerating, $900 in overdraft fees all from within a one week period and $600 of them from within 2 days. This is due to a $30 PER TRANSACTION fee - so for example a $2.10 item that I tried to purchase was allowed to go through, charged another $30 fee on top of it, AND NOT SINGLE NOTIFICATION OR PHONE CALL AND I AM SUPPOSED TO BE OPTED OUT OF OVERDRAFT!!!! After taking time off work to have a meeting with Mr. David Hobbs, the president of River City, his only suggestion was that “we part ways”.......!?!?!?!? WHAT????? To say the least I am infuriated and just absolutely do not understand how anyone, could tell me that they don’t think something is very, VERY wrong with this. I am self supporting and I am now short on multiple bills for this month and having to deal with an unexpected financial setback ironically due to the exact same place that is supposed to keep my money safe and secure! Don’t be tricked, there’s a reason banks like this one exist, and that is because they PROFIT off of shady tactics like this. From a level headed, LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER.
