Rachel Richards2The house appeared clean upon our arrival but within an hour, my 11 month old crawler’s legs were black from the dirt on the floor. So, we were forced to mop as soon as we got there. Although the rental slept 6, there was only seating in the kitchen for 4 so don’t plan to have any meals together as a family. The sleeper sofa should have slept 2 as a queen but due to its age, it bowed in the middle so only one person could reasonably sleep on it as you inevitably ended up in the middle regardless. The two showers are stand up only- no baths - so I had to bathe baby in kitchen sink. Neither shower had handles so the elderly people we were with were worried about falling. The grass was mowed prior to our arrival but not bagged so we consistently tracked grass inside and had to sweep multiple times a day. It was fine for the price but should have been cleaned AND mopped and had the grass bagged. That would have saved a lot of trouble for our family while on vacation.

Brittany Price1This was our first time renting eith Harbour Realty. The rental experience was easy. The home we rented, Eel Creek Escape was less than impressive. The home was very dirty. The house was not as it was pictured in the description. The path leading to the water was very unsafe woth broken boards. The home was cluttered woth personal items. There were dirty clothes in drawers, under the bed and trash behind the couch and beds as well. We cone to Chincoteague every year and this was the first time we were truly disappointed in our stay.

Julia Cooper4We rented George's Retreat. It's a nice little duplex at the end of a quiet gravel lane. The owners have it nicely furnished and decorated. The price was also very good. I give George's retreat 5 stars! Harbour rentals gets 4 stars due to housekeeping. There was soap scum in the tubs and the house was pretty dusty. I definitely left it cleaner than when I arrived. The original person I spoke to over the phone was helpful, but not especially courteous. The woman I gave my keys to was super sweet and friendly. It took about 4 weeks, but we did get our full deposit back. We had a great time on Chincoteague Island!

Joseph M1There were a number of problems with the townhouse we rented. First, when we checked in, we had to use the vacuum and mop to clean the floors and we had to dust the furniture. We also washed dishes from the cabinets because they were still dirty. Also, the refrigerator door would not close properly, and none of the three toilets flushed properly. We brought the faulty refrigerator door and the toilet problem to the attention of Harbour Rental, as one of the toilets would not flush at all. They sent someone over and corrected the toilets to a sluggish condition. They also attended to the refrigerator door, and it closed a little better after they left, but the door would still not completely close! However, the worst issue we had with Harbour Rental occurred after we checked out and came home. We received a letter from Harbour saying that we left an unsanitary condition in one of the toilets and that, as a result, they were deducting $35.00 from our security deposit. As we had vacuumed the carpets, mopped the floor and dusted the furniture, and cleaned up before we left, per our agreement, and knew we did not trash the bathrooms, I called Harbour thinking they mistook our townhouse for a different one. I was really surprised by the accusatory and insulting attitude of the Harbour receptionist who I spoke to over the phone. She would not listen to reason, nor did she care to hear my side, and insisted that the unsanitary condition was reported to them by the maid. She said the $35.00 deduction was the extra cost to clean up the bathroom. She said the maid emailed pictures of the condition to Harbour. I asked her to send us the pictures, but the receptionist said Harbour did not save them and that she was sure that the maid did not save them either. However, we took pictures of all of the rooms including the bathrooms before we left (for future reference). So, we know exactly how we left the place and are certain that we left it in better condition than when we arrived. We like Chincoteague and have been vacationing there for a number of years, although it was our first time through Harbour. We had actually considered purchasing a vacation home there, but have changed our minds since our experience with Harbour Rental. It goes without saying that if we return to Chincoteague for a vacation next year, we will definitely not rent from Harbour Rental, nor will we ever rent from them again.

Jaime E2Relatively friendly staff. However, they did not seem to pay much attention to some obvious items in the house they rented, such as cleanliness and health. Given the times, their claim of “extra cleanliness” rings quite hollow based on what we saw. Just to cite a few: the range top burner had aluminum foil with food from previous rentals; the furniture had red stains; one room had a baby pacifier laying on the floor; the air conditioning unit filters had probably not been replaced in a very long time (I got sick from breathing that air); the grounds had not been treated/cleaned for spider webs and Mosquitoes. I can probably also mention that the window AC units had gaps all around them, so insects could crawl in and out unimpeded. All in all, their rental was a mess, both aesthetically and practically. And to top it all, the security deposit takes more than 3 weeks to be mailed back.

Jason Christy1There are only a few rental companies to choose from in Chincoteague. We booked a property, contract signed and we later get a call that we need to pay an additional $300 because the owner thinks its a prime season week when on the website its listed as not prime. On top of that, we have to pay both security deposits - and we are told this info is all in fine print on the listing. Bait and switch if you ask me. All in all, after having a signed agreement we are asked to pay an additional $400. They quickly updated the listing, even though they initially said they were covered in their fine print at the bottom of the listing. Why update your website then? A good rental company would take the hit, and not pass it to the person who already has a signed rental agreement. They were nice enough about it, but they have no interest in helping to make things right for the customer. How about 50/50 share of the cost? Anything?? Nope, demand is high right now and they know it will sell. Now another renter will see the “right” price and rent it. If you use this company, book at your own risk - go AirBNB!!! We love Chincoteague and have been going there for 20+ years…I would not recommend renting thru harbor rentals

David Rydzewski1Our refrigerator broke on Sunday the repair man came late Tuesday night because of the holiday. They had to order parts that would be there on Thursday. They told us we would get reimbursed for lost food and ice have to use our cooler. The part did not come in until late Friday. We were leaving on Sunday. After we got home we wrote them a e-mail about the experience and gave us $250.00 off the total rental.

Anton Kallungal1We booked one of their rentals only to have a bunch of us getting bitten very badly by bugs. My cousin got bit so bad that he actually needed medical attention. To top it off owner tried to tell us that there was nothing wrong with the place despite us finding a half eaten slim Jim in the couch and a bunch of wrappers as well. The owners later did an inspection for bed bugs and found no evidence of them, however the only people who got bit were those who stayed on the couches downstairs or in the room upstairs with two twin beds. Definitely definitely definitely stay away.
